  1. Hi everyone, Not sure how much coverage the UK-EU referendum is receiving outside Europe, but thought I’d share these photos I grabbed this past Friday. This was the day all of us in the UK awoke to the referendum results. Figuring there would be a lot of unrest in the capital, I headed down to Whitehall and Downing Street after work; sure enough, the protests (while small for London) were underway. Photos and further context here: https://colepeters.exposure.co/brexit-day-one Photographed with the M Typ 262 and 28mm Elmarit-M (IV).
  2. After many years of work, I have finally edited down my 51,267 photos of Honduran families to 52 and published my first Blurb book: http://www.blurb.com/books/6725808-las-familias All photos made with Leica rangefinders, all with black and white film. I still have second thoughts about what I should and should not have included but I had lots of help editing and will save the second thoughts for another book! You can preview the whole book on Blurb. Let me know what you think! Tina

  5. here are the thoughts of two photographers on 28mm vs. 35mm for documentary photography. There is nothing "wrong" with the 35mm; for some reason, the 28mm focal length produces images that are more three dimensional looking to my eye. For that reason, I am drawn to the 28mm focal length. I think of my 28mm Elmarit as my documentary lens and my 35mm Summicron as my all-arounder. https://emulsive.org/articles/sharing-my-contact-sheets-india-snapshots-all-xa-all-colour?utm_source=EMULSIVE+Daily+and+Weekly+Newsletters&utm_campaign=e7c973b9ea-RSS_DAILY_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c4b55b017a-e7c973b9ea-174834361
  6. Here is an interesting discussion on the 28mm vis-à-vis 35mm lens for documentary photography: Focal Length Feud: 28mm vs 35mm for Telling a story – by David Babaian and Simon King https://emulsive.org/articles/focal-length-feud-28-35 I have used both and at the end of the day it seems to me that either will work well, if you are willing to fine tune your shooting technique for each lens. Thoughts?

  8. Hi friends, I’m not usually very active on the forum but I remember years ago being very curious about how a modern digital M camera would behave under real working scenarios, even more an M Monochrom considering how much limited is the choice of these tools. I felt that this recent example of a collaboration I had with a music band could be potentially useful for anyone interested in seeing real life results, especially under these challenging conditions. Hope you like it or that it’s somehow useful, best regards to all, Sergio. All photographs made with M10M, Nokton 35mm f1.4 v2 and 50mm Summilux Asph. Belter Souls Band - Leica M10M

  10. Hi. I spend some time reading around these forums on my RSS Feed. Today I wanted to share that a recent documentary project, Peñarol, was published in LFI 01/2012 – Portfolio Martin Herrera Soler: Discarded. The published portion was mainly shot with an M9 and a 35mm Lux. Some of the images were shot with an M8 and the same 35 lens. It is quite thrilling to see my work in a magazine, there is something about it that feels very different. I wanted to share the good news and thank everyone for how much I learn and find inspiration in these forums. Good 2012 for everyone!

    Anticipation

Captured on the train in Prague. This gentleman was brandishing his newly acquired LP and I was drawn more to the album cover than anything. But after observing him a bit longer, it was a shot that I had to capture.
  12. Here's an impression of how people in Cambodia live on the Tonlé Sap (Great Lake). Click here for direct link to my blog post All pictures were taken with an M9 + 50mm Summilux, and processed with LR3. I also carried a Hasselblad on my big Cambodia/Vietnam trip but didn't take it with me on this trip to the lake. After developing some film rolls I was inspired to process the M9 digital files in the same manner: square format, high contrast black and white. And I kind of like it, it might be something to remember for future assignments. All your comments, positive and negative, are welcome. We were there last January with 'Osmose', on a one day tour, visiting the bird sanctuary and local villages. The group was small, only 5 people and a guide. So we really got a unique insight in how the locals lived there. It's actually a very fascinating phenomenon, this lake. Every year, during the wet season, the water from the Mekong river flows into it. And when the rain stops, the lake empties itself into the sea. People who live there have to adapt their lifestyle constantly, because when the water drops, trees and bushes start to emerge and wildlife changes. If you were to stay in one place for a day and watch a tree stem, you could actually see the water level drop. Since they live on the lake, they also have to move their houses closer together during the dry season, to a place where there's always water. In the summer they fish, in the winter they can plant crops on the fertile soil.
  13. Slightly late for Valentine's Day, but never too late for the romantics out there
