  1. Anyone know of an aftermarket replacement eyecup or workaround for the Leica SL? Mine has had its plastic innards self-destruct and is peeling away, as you can see here. Leica Store Miami didn’t know of any solution other than sending to Leica USA for repair (yuck), and they usually take forever for anything.
  2. I have a few older lenses that lack the six-bit codes. Rather than sending them back to Leica, it is easy to attach your own 6-bit-ready flanges. But there are many manufacturers and many prices. Does anyone know where to get the highest quality 6-bit-ready parts suitable for each Leica model lens?
  3. You Tube VideoHello everyone! I am back with another mod. This time I converted my Leica CL into a full spectrum camera to use it for infrared photography. Here is a time-lapse video. I will soon post some photos from the camera. Hope you like it. Video
  4. As it's been written the original lens shade is a little big for the camera bag and might also annoy people when shooting candid (street). The original hood is not any bigger than need be - checked it with the apparatus below (some claim it might be). I decided to make a smaller one, the petal type. I ordered two 82mm metal lens hoods of different lengths (35 and 20 mm). To be able to determine what to take off the hood one needs to use counter light rays: light-up sensor area shines to inside of the shade. The light part needs to be taken out. You start with tightening the filter, make a mark to rim. Tighten the hood and mark the same spot. This will be the accurate position of the hood. Then you make a body dummy: 20 mm flange back distance with concentric openings for lens mount and a rectangular one to act as sensor opening for the light rays. Here's the set up: strong light source, body mock up, lens, lens shade with white paper fitted tight inside (with marked position on the rim!) And for the curious: yes, I know some Chinese ... we were in HK / Shenzhen at the Haima typhoon week as some others on this forum... didn't see any other Leica-photographers, though. Here you can see the shape of the lit area. Be sure to take care the lens center marking matches the position of the sensor opening (=the lens may not be at a wild angle). Turn the lens around 180 deg and use the average of the two lines (because there is some tolerance in this set up). This is your "cut along this line" model. You can use it on 35 and 20 mm hoods as the requirement is the same for both. Here we are in the production hall... to be continued...
  5. Hello, I'm new to this forum and I'm seeking some experienced advice. I recently purchased a Leitz Summaron 35 f3.5 with goggles from eBay at a very reasonable price - for a reason - the rear element has considerable haze/fog that is noticeable on every image. I've been reading on the web that it is possible to clean the glass and even to DIY it: Removing Haze from Leitz 35mm F/3.5 Summaron Lens - DJCPHOTO.COM Now, I've tried going ahead with the instructions provided by the link above but I'm finding it impossible to remove the rear lens retaining ring. In addition, I have unscrewed the focusing helicoid and I think I have not been able to put it back together correctly. Apart from sending my lens to more competent hands, does anyone have other advice or guidelines for cleaning the lenses (and putting the focusing helicoid back correctly...) myself? Thanks for your time
  6. Hi, I own 3 lenses: 35mm lux asph, 50mm lux non-asph and 75mm lux. Only the 35mm is tabbed and I like the tab a lot, just a lot easier to know instantly approximately where the lens is focused to as soon as you pick the camera up, and helps me to focus faster. What are the options or people experience in tabbing the lenses themselves? I googled a bit there seems to be a few options. But it wasn't a lot of information. Wonder why this isn't more common, tabs are nice aren't they? Byron
