  1. Hi I have no 400 speed in the freezer so decided do to try something different, TMax400. I have never used a T grain film before, only HP5, FP4 and PlusX. Is there a good staple starting point for a developer. Not particularly worried about grain, just a nice sharp easy to print/scan negative with good tonality and would appreciate some pointers. Also, does TMax benefit from a prewash? Cheers, Julian
  2. After a siesta from film for over a decade I'm getting the itch to go back. Unfortunately I can't find any labs that would develop B/W locally any more let alone finding B/W film. I have to order my developers and fixers and I would love to have some Diafine but can't find anyone who wants to ship it internationally to Kuwait. Any idea on who can ship it?
  3. I develop my film in diafine 2 bath developer. I keep this developer in brown glass bottles. Before making fresh set of solutions I would like to clean out the bottles. What can I use to do this cleaning?
  4. I have read a lot recently on various forums about Xtol suffering from a kind of suddent death syndrome. I bought a pack of it some years ago meaning to use it, but a bottle of Rodinal I have just seems to go on for ever. At 6 ml per film, it takes a lot of films to get through 500 ml of it. Meanwhile I see that on the Xtol pack it says the expiry date is sometime in 2009. The Ilford data sheets all say that their powder developers keep indefinitely in dry powder form. What about Xtol? Is it likely to be OK still? It is in two packs of powder, presumably to prevent any chemical reactions that would degrade it from taking place. I will try it out to find out, of course, eventually. But still it would be interesting to hear of anyone's thoughts and experiences on this topic. Many thanks in advance for any comments! All the best, John
  5. I found along some old books from my grandfather a lot of marks, etc, about a developing formula - the PAC´s "New Winchester". I would like to test this developer, because the blacks he used to get are very very difficult to obtain (I ever tought that the papers he used were the responsible, but maybe...) The problem is that the formula uses two ingredients that I don't know. "Wettol" and "Latitol U". Wettol is a wetting agent, and I can try with any other. But how about Latitol? It would be like benzotriazole (Kodak Anti-fog 1), if I understood well. But then, how much of it? Of course these are names, products, etc, from the 40s and 50s; but I really would like to try this. Regards, Martin
