Which D-Lux camera should invest in, a D-Lux 5 with an electronic viewfinder or a D-Lux 6 without it?

I plan to use an external flash on my D-Lux 5. What is the flash synch speed of this camera? I do have the Leica SF 24D (which I use primarily on my M9) and Olympus S20 flash; both of which are small enough to sit comfortably on the D-Lux 5. Since acquiring the SF 24D, the Olympus S20 has been relegated to the the drawer, but it is still a very competent little flash! Both flashes will be used in automatic or manual mode only. Obviously TTL mode on the SF 24D will not work on the the D-Lux 5.

Hallo, nach vielen Jahren DSLR bin ich vor einiger Zeit auf die D-Lux 5 umgestiegen und habe so nun endlich jeden Tag meine Kamera dabei Im Sommer ist es aber ziemlich beschwerlich mit der D-Lux zu fotografieren, auf dem Display sieht man nicht besonders genau - wenn man vorher den Sucher einer DSLR gewöhnt ist ... Ich habe gelesen, dass der Pansonic Viewer EVF-1 auch passt, habe aber auch gelesen, dass die Olympus Viewer besser sind. Weiß jemand ob der Olympus VF-3 auch mit der Leica D-Lux 5 zusammenarbeitet? Gibt es andere Tipps? Vielen Dank im Voraus!

Hallo zusammen! Ich bin hier neu und wollte mir einmal Rat holen. Momentan besitze ich noch eine Canon EOS 40D mit dem 17-85mm IS USM Objektiv, welche ich mir vor 3 Jahren gekauft habe. Ich hatte schon länger überlegt, mir ein besseres Objektiv zu kaufen, aber nun bin ich schon so weit, die Kamera zu verkaufen. Ich studiere Architektur und da braucht man halt ab und zu 'ne relativ gute Kamera, gerade wenn man das Wahlpflichtfach "Architekturfotografie" belegt. Nun hatten wir vor kurzem eine Städtebau-Exkursion, welche mir wieder vor Augen geführt hat, dass dieser "fette Spiegelreflexkasten" eher unpraktisch ist und bei mehreren Stunden rumlaufens nur Halsschmerzen verursacht hat. Nach 3 Jahren "40D mit 17-85mm" weiß ich zumindest, dass ich gerne ein Lichtstarkes Objektiv, vorzugsweise 'ne Festbrennweite hätte (Ich hatte mehrmals die Möglichkeit mir eins auszuleihen) und das ich Hauptsächlich "Schnappschüsse" gerne mache. Bilder mit geringer Schärfentiefe sind mir die Liebsten Nun war meine Überlegung, mir eine kleinere und kompaktere Kamera zuzulegen. Eventuell eine Systemkamera? Nach längerem Stöbern im Netz bin ich auf folgende Kameras aufmerksam geworden: -Leica D-Lux 5 (Kommt zur Photokina vielleicht schon die D-Lux 6?) -Leica X1 (Etwas teuer für's Studentenbudget) -Fujifilm FinePix X100 -Sony NEX 5 (Preiswert, aber Bildqualität auch wirklich gut?) Ich glaube zwar, dass ich ein gutes Grundverständnis habe, aber dennoch bin ich nur Laie. Was könnt ihr mir empfehlen? Was würdet ihr machen? Vielen Dank für eure Hilfe! Beste Grüße, Stefan -

I'm about to spring for the D-Lux 5. Big money, with little left for accessories. What items should I concentrate on ordering along with the initial purchase of camera? I'm thinking extra DLux5 battery, 8MB Sandisk Extreme Class10 card, optical glass LCD protector and perhaps a Hoodman LCD viewer. Cannot afford a leather case. Whew! this stuff adds up!

Hallo. In der Bedienungsanleitung bin ich nicht fündig geworden, deswegen hier meine Frage: Wie überrede ich die D-Lux 5 dazu, täglich einen neuen Ordner auf der Speicherkarte anzulegen und die Bilderdateien des Tages in diesen Ordner abzulegen. Bei meiner kleinen Canon IXUS ging das problemlos in den Einstellungen, bei der Leica habe ich bisher nichts Vergleichbares gefunden. I just installed Mac OSX update 10.6.5 and now I can open LX5 .RW2 files directly in Aperture and all other Mac apps that use the Apple system RAW decoder. I bet these same apps will now open D-Lux5 RAW files as well.

I posted already on the german forum section but maybe here is more response. I use the D-Lux 5 and I know Panasonic is supporting more supplements for the LX-5, e.g. Lens adaptor. I am interested using a Polfilter. But Leica told me they do not support that accessories because there can be inner-reflections when using the lens adaptor with a filter. Does anyone have experience using that equipment on a D-Lux 5 or D-Lux 4? Or on a Panasonic LX-3/5? Some comments would be fine. Or is there-alternatively- another possibility to mount a polfilter? I heard about some filters which can be plugged on the camera tubus directly (only when the cam is switched on, of course)? With a kind of rubber adaptor? I never see that before. Any ideas?

Möchte mir für meine D-Lux 5 einen Zweitakku zulegen. Hat schon jemand den Akku der baugleichen Panasonic LX5 in der D-Lux ausprobiert? Der Panasonic Akku ist immerhin über 20 Euro günstiger und hat die gleichen Kennwerte (muss er ja). Einziges Hindernis könnte eine andere Kodierung sein. Ich hoffe ihr könnt mir weiterhelfen. Hat jemand Erfahrungen beim Einsatz des optional angebotenen Panasonic-Zubehörs an der D-Lux 5? Siehe hier: DMC-LX5 | PRODUCTS | LUMIX | Digital Camera | Panasonic Global Strenggenommen wären eigentlich nur der ND- und der Pol-Filter interessant. Man benötigt ja dann diesen Tubus, den man anstelle des kleinen RIngs vorne aufschraubt, damit das Objektiv weiterhin ungestört ausfährt. Bei Leica sagte man mir am Erlebnistag, dass sich Reflexionen im Bild ergeben könnten. Das ist ja wohl auch der Grund, dass man dieses Zubehör nicht von Leica anbietet. Trotzdem - auch wenn es vielleicht dem Gedanken an eine Kompaktkamera, die so ja auch quasi künstlich "größer" gemacht wird als gedacht, zuwiderläuft: hat jemand diese Dinge schon mal probiert? Oder auch Erfahrungen bei der D-Lux 4/ LX-3 gesammelt? Oder: gibt es generell noch andere Möglichkeiten, einen Pol zu verwenden? Gab es da mal nicht Filter mit einer Art Gummihalterung, die man einfach vorne am ausgefahrenen Tubus ansteckt? Sowas sagte ein Mitarbeiter am Stand, aber das kenne ich wiederum nicht. -
Dear all, I am battling with what is probably a very straightforward issue. My camera is set in the film mode and I do not know how to remove this mode so that I can shoot just still images. The display indicates the film mode standard setting icon, the 9M icon and the motion picture icon. The program mode is set to P. Now every time I press the shutter, then go to view the output I see the playback option. My question is, how do I get out of the film mode so I can return to shooting still images? Thanks

Hallo zusammen! Ihr seid meine letzte Chance: ich suche eine Möglichkeit meine Reisekamera, eine D-Lux 5, per Fernauslöser, Funk oder Infrarot oder wie auch immer, auszulösen. Auf meinen Radreisen würde ich gerne die Aufnahme auf dem Rad sitzend per Fernauslöser auslösen und nicht jedes Mal wie ein Hase vor dem Selbstauslöser zum Rad rennen. Ich habe in mehreren Geschäften nachgefragt, gegoogelt und selbst mit dem Leica-Werk Kontakt gehabt. Keiner weiß eine Lösung! Kann mir jemand helfen? Das Problem scheint zu sein, dass für die normalen Funkfernauslöser an der Kamera kein Eingang vorhanden ist. Kann man da nich einen Ausgang umprogrammieren?

Hi everyone, Can anyone guide me how to revert back to the original D-Lux 5 firmware? I recently re-purchased a D-Lux 5. My first one, a 2012 build was a sensational camera. I sold it to update to a D-lux 6 but immediately found the 6 didn't match the image quality of the 5 in many areas so I sought out another DL5. I eventually found a brand new "old stock" D-lux 5 and was rapt. It is a July 2011 build and straight out of the box it was the old Leica DL5, with beautiful clear natural 3 dimensional shots straight out of the camera every time. I then updated the firmware to version 2.0 and took it out for a day of picture taking. The results were disastrous, and very similar to the losses of the DL6. Pictures were now flat, 2 dimensional with clearly reduced clarity and even the colours were now false and pasty looking. Has anyone else had this and can anyone guide me how to revert back to the original firmware? I desperately want to return to the original firmware. I usually shoot in standard colour aperture priority mode, or AP mode B&W. Thanks in advance, *I noticed someone in DPreview forum posted exactly the same findings 11months ago with their DL5. Hi, I'm currently struggling to choose between the D-Lux 5 and the V-Lux 40. Both of them are good cameras and it seems that both of them have their advantages and disadvantages. Is it really that simple to say that the Lux 5 is better because of its bigger sensor? I currently own a Canon 7D and use it primarely for filmmaking. I want the Leica as compact camera that I can take with me wherever I go (I'll use it for photos of people, buildings, landscapes etc.). Obviously the quality is the most important factor. I've limited my choice to those two cameras because they fit my budget. I'm happy for any advice from people who own the camera/know a lot about them! Thanks, Fabien

Hi, Ich kann mich nicht zwischen den beiden Modellen D-Lux 5 und V-Lux 40 entscheiden. Von den Preisen her und Specs (zb dem grösseren Sensor bei der Lux 5) scheint die Sache klar zu sein, aber je mehr ich über beide Kameras lese, desto schwieriger fällt mir die Entscheidung. Kann man klar sagen dass die Lux 5 viel besser ist? Ich besitze im Moment eine Canon 7D, und mache damit hauptsächlich Filme. Die Leica Compact Kamera will ich mir kaufen um immer eine kleine kamera in der Tasche zu haben. Damit werde ich also Personen, Gebäude, Landschaften usw photografieren, eine Kamera für alles eben. Ich zähle mich selbst zu einem semi-professionellen Photographen und will deshalb keine amateur Kamera. Gleichzeitig will ich dafür jetzt nicht mehr als max. 700-800 Euro ausgeben. Danke für Tipps und Erfahrungen die manche von euch schon gesammelt haben Fabien

Hi, Help needed please. I've just purchased the above camera but can not open RAW files in either Adobe CS3 or Capture NX2. The files revert to JPG,s? Urgent response would be appreciated please as if I can't resolve the problem I only 2 days to return camera. Many thanks for any help. JHC

Hello, I just sold my Canon 7D. It was a great camera, but very heavy and I was tired of changing lenses all the time. I have been wanting a Leica for some time and now is my chance. I am looking for a lighter camera, but still want the DSLR feel and versatility. I was thinking either the D-Lux 5 or V-Lux 3. Can anyone offer me some insight into these 2 cameras? I will be using the camera mainly for product shots, some macro and a general vacation camera. Thanks, Kim

Greetings all, I'm tempted to upgrade from my fun but noisy little D-Lux 3 to either the LX-5 or the D-Lux 5. I know that Panasonic uses a proprietary RAW format, and that some few here have written that the D-Lux 5 saves its RAW files in DNG. If that is true, it might sway me to the D-Lux 5. But where did that knowledge come from? I can find it nowhere in the Leica literature. I do find that the X1 uses DNG, but not the D-Lux 5. Can someone enlighten me? Brent

Does anyone know if the tan leather case for the D-Lux 4 will also fit the D-Lux 5? I'm guessing not, since the dimensions of the two camera bodies are slightly different. I've got a D-Lux 5 on the way, but the new dark brown case Leica is showing for the D-Lux 5 is positively cheesy looking in comparison to the earlier model for the D-Lux 4. I was hoping I could order the tan case designed for the D-Lux 4, and the 5 would fit.

Hallo zusammen. Habe heute eine D-LUX 5 zum Testen bekommen. Der erste Eindruck ist positiv. Irritiert bin ich jedoch von einem Art Klapper-Geräusch, das zu hören ist, wenn man die Kamera schnell bewegt. Oder aber ein wenig schüttelt. KLingt so, als ob irgendetwas lose wäre im Inneren. Haben das andere D-LUX-5-Benutzer auch schon festgestellt? Ist das Geräusch normal? Freue mich über Antworten. Achtung: Ich rede nicht vom Bildstabilisator, der ja auch Geräusche macht. Um "mein" Geräusch zu selektieren, habe ich den Bildstabi komplett deaktiviert.
