    Rollerblade girl

I spotted this rather distinctive young lady at an open-air fitness event in my city and simply asked if I could take a photograph of her. I just love her unconventional look and individualism which challenges society norms. She said that Rollerblade Derby was the most important thing in her life. To me she demonstrates that there is more to young people than drugs and violence. Leica M240 + 35mm Summarit-M f2.5 @ 400iso Gerry
  3. It is the third year in which the monument of "Hermann the Cherusker" is being illuminated by a lasershow. The festival lasts for 10 days and each evening the 15 minuted show is being repeated, each time a bit different. The whole forest is being illuminated, filled by music. The moon was a great gift on that evening. The Leica Q served as my backup camera, while I documentethe show with my Canon 5D MK3. At least it is amazing what can be churned out of the Q. The only paramter was the ISO so I put it on Auto and it went quite hight because darkness was deep and the laser bright. I need 4.5 and speed was limited when handheld.

  7. This park, as mentioned before, is on my way to my office. These days I take my little X1 with me very often, for every days provides a different quality of light. Tghere is a pond and a wonderfule delcate littel Japanese Maple Tree with a wonderful red dress. X1
  8. Tis pond belongs to our local "Stonehenge" a formation or strange rocks being the rest of an ice age moraine. For many people it is a place for centemplation and all sort of meditation. This morning was one of theos e extremely mild late october/early november days. No breeze, no rain, the foliage was in full color. I always imagine the sound of Richard Wagner's Lohengrin and I am waiting then for a while to see him appear with his swan. Olmypus EM 5 + Nocticron 43 mm/ 1.2
  9. Taken during a walk around a flea market in Antwerp, Belgium, I thought of the memories encapsulated in these small frames and now offered for sale. I tried a b&w conversion, and then an antique preset in LR CC but at the end of the day the original was the best in my opinion. Gerry
  10. Hello. I have just ( one week) at last bought an used M8 and am trying to get the hang of the camera...(having fun..) I am using Aperture 3.1, but have also tried Lightroom 3.2 for the M8 files. Today I saw something that I hope somebody can help me with (or explain..) I was shooting jpg and raw when I saw that Aperture misinterpeted the files. The dng files have an ugly colourcast. I have only seen this on two pictures but when I import the files into Lightroom they appear ok. I have also seen that the Lightoom pictures are some pixels bigger than the Aperture pictures? Is that normal? Hope that somebody can explain what happened to my files... I am having fun with the M8. But find it hard to get tack sharp pictures... (not used to rff yet I suppose...) I got hold of an hopefully mint silver M8, an CV 28/1.9, CV 50/1.5, CV 15/4.5 and an CV 75/2.5 Planing to retire my Nikon D200... The files are jpg exported from Aperture DNG exported to jpg from Aperture DNG exported to jpg from Lightroom
  11. Processed in Lightroom, Landscape or Color profiles, I find that boring grey skies are apt to carry a blue tinge (that becomes stronger as you approach blue hour). It certainly makes the pics look more lively, but it’s not what I remember seeing. If I set the sky to be grey using the temperature setting, the rest of the picture looks too warm. Have others noticed such quirks? Is there a solution (that doesn’t involve repainting the scene)?
  12. Hi all, I've noticed there isn't a dedicated thread for editing L-Log footage, so I will begin one here. I realize that colouring and re-touching video is a very subjective field, but I wanted to see how others work within Leica's limited literature surrounding post-production in video. I've just updated my Atomos Ninja V to the latest firmware, which now allows for L-Log recording from leica (the past year with the SL2 was a little tedious working with both internally and externally recorded video footage). Now, with this update, BT2020 seems a lot nicer. I've just done my first video about this update here:
  13. I thought I would try colour for a change. It constantly amazes me that I (1.8m tall and 104kg) can stand there and photograph without being noticed! Leica M240 - 1/30th f6.8 @ 320iso handheld. Gerry
  14. A woman waiting to welcome the first client at the opening of a yoga class (Southampton, England) - verbal permission given. I spotted this as I was walking down the street and asked for permission to photograph her (very unusual for me to ask!). I had the 24mm Elmarit-M f2.8 ASPH fitted, so I shot with what I had. Leica M240 + 24mm Elmarit-M f2.8 ASPH. 1/180 f16 @ 400iso. Gerry
  15. Since there won't be much travelling this year i thought i share some photo's i made on La Palma early last year. I was there on a photo-trip and brought my ME(220) and MM1 with me. https://www.timotravels.eu/canaryisland https://www.timotravels.eu/volcano
  16. I post process my SL 2 raws in Adobe Lightroom. It is generally fine, although, as seems common with Leica raws, the reds are a bit oversaturated. I tend to use the Landscape profile as it seems to have a slightly less contrasty tone curve than Color and the colours are a bit more vibrant. A typical workflow is to add a bit of vignetting, adjust white balance, push the auto exposure, for a starting point, normalise the black and white points to get the right amount of clipping, add 15 clarity and 5 dehaze, and Robert is your Mother’s brother. The SL2’s white balance is normally v good, but when it isn’t I find that Auto tends to result in an overly warm image, relative to the expected neutral. Similarly, taking the white balance reading from gray clouds seems to result in too much warming of the image, suggesting that the SL2 wants to render them blue, at least under the Landscape profile. (I get better results taking the white point from cloud highlights, where they are available and where it isn’t too close to sunset.) I also realise that the dehaze tends to add a bit of a blue cast. Has anyone a better recipe for getting better (more natural) colours out of the SL2?
  17. Hi, l’ve a 50mm Summicron and 90mm elmarit; both stellar lenses. I’ve had these lenses for a good few years and don’t have any desire for more. From the get go I was sure to source lenses with common filter sizes, in this instance 39mm. I shoot quite a lot of film with my M6, both colour and BW. Its on the way back (in the post) with a viewfinder upgrade and CLA so looking forward to giving it a good run feeding it lots more film. I’ve a B+W F- Pro orange filter that I use a little and I’d like to add to this. Specifically a green filter for BW portraits, to experiment on my young surfer son who’s seven with some cute freckles. Also, for colour negative, typically with Portra, I’d like to get my hands on warming and cooling filters to try and get more consistent results and minimise colour shifts. This is particularly relevant as finding a good local scanner operator is a challenge; it’s not an excuse, just another reason to try and minimise any requirement for corrections at the scanner, i note Leica make some black and white filters, including a green filter, so that would likely cover off my requirement for BW, however, I’m stumped for warming and cooling filters, particularly in the 39mm size. I tried a camera store this afternoon to see what they may be able to get and was advised they’re unable to help me as there’s little need these days with digital; fair enough. Most ideally too, I’d like nice brass filters like the B+W F-Pro series, they’re very nicely made bits of kit. As I’d like to keep the setup compact, I don’t wish to use step downs or larger filters, I’d like to stick with 39mm. So, we’ll made brass 39mm filters; colour for BW and warming / cooling for colour neg. Any recommendations on where I might find the above? New or used? Thanks. And for a bit of fun, who else is using warming and cooling filters for colour neg film? I’ve an old Lumu light meter; I’m considering upgrading to the newer one simply for better understanding of colour temp variance, and flash measurement. FYI, the lumu’s are a great little light meter; I keep mine on my phone always, often even if I don’t have a camera with me! Cheers, Steve
  18. Yesterday I took to the streets of Southampton for my first brief venture for 5 months. This is one of the resulting images. Leica M240 + 35mm Summarit-M f2.5. 1/500 @ f 11 and 250iso. I used a Kodachrome plug-in with Lightroom Classic. Gerry

  20. I have been in a rut lately so have posted very little. However I did shoot this a few days ago because I liked the combination of colours. I hope you think the effort was worthwhile! Leica M240 + 50mm Summicron-M f2 @400iso. Gerry
