  2. Freezing cold weather turn the Chicago River into sheets of ice.
  3. During my last couple of trips in colder temperatures I've noticed that once temperatures get slightly cold the light meter of my M6 gets fairly unreliable. Meaning that the little arrows either don't show up at all, are barely visible or simply give me wrong meterings. I'm assuming it has something to do with the cold draining the batteries. But the temperatures I was in weren't exactly "freezing" - mostly between 0 and 15 Celcius (32 and 59 Fahrenheit) - so I'm not sure. Is this a common issue? Is there a simple fix? Maybe a battery thats more resistant to cold temperatures? Any
  4. I recently bought a M240. Now in Norway there has been two days with temperatures around zero degrees celsius. I went out shooting both days, and both days the same thing happened. Suddenly and without warning the camera seemed to lock itself. None of the buttons worked. I could still fire the shutter, but no pictures were recorded. Anyone have a clue?
  5. So ein wunderbares Bild schon etwas aelter, auch Sensorkorrosion war bei dem Bild schon aktiv, aber bei der Blende kein Problem! Ich hoffe es gefaellt
  6. I am going to the Lofoten and one of the purposes is Northern lights photography. I know that temperature at night is far bellow 0ºCelsius, I would like to know if someone has that kind of experience, I am affraid the metal will freeze quickly, is there any risk for the camera?... Any tips? I also have the option of taking a tropicalized D800 Nikon... Obrigada, thanks for all help provided.
  7. I was not sure if I should start a new thread for this simple question, but here it goes. I purchased Leica MP (used) just little over month ago. Just last week we got our first cold weathers this winter here in Finland. I have shot with the MP for many rolls without any problems. At first cold weathers the battery died, so I replaced it with brand new one. Now when I was shooting my first roll with the new battery in ~ -3 °C, after a while when the camera got cold my light meter stopped showing the overexposure led. Other leds work fine and the lightmeter does seem to work fine otherwise. I s
  8. Are there any new "space age" type gloves/mittens that would permit convenient and comfortable use of the camera in below freezing temperatures? Providing some protection from the cold yet maintaining flexibility and tactile sensing of focus ring and shutter release. Camera itself inside my jacket until being used. Thanks, Harry
  9. I just tried both M and M9 in -15 down to -21C. Both cameras had fully charged batteries and were kept in trunk of car overnight in temp between -15 down to -21C (yeah, this travel was in rural area, so no theft risk). I then went for a hike / photo shoot-out for 5 hrs: My conclusion: M handles the medium low temp down to -21C without problems, M9 can hardly be used. My M9 took only 5 exposures and then went dead. No reaction when switching on/off. When removing and inserting same battery it woke, but the following exposure were not recorded on card . I took 90 exposures during the
  10. I am off on a ski trip to Switzerland in a couple of weeks and am planning to take my MP with me and a load of film. I am reasonably new to film and the MP and would love some feedback on the following; 1. Exposure in snow conditions and particularly film selection for this. I would like to shoot E6 but am worried about its limitations to over or under exposure. Am I better shooting with something else? 2. I am expecting the MP will live up to the cold conditions without too many issues? 3. I have never travelled internationally with film - I assume carry-on X-ray machines are ok? Any feed
  11. My first photo with my first Leica! Approaching the Geyser basin in Yellowstone on the Snow Road and the the cold temperature generates clouds of billowing steam against the sun. The lone tree on the plane of the old volcano basin provides context amongst the field of crisp cold snow.
