1. Thank you to everyone who took part in last month's 125th Barnack's Monthly theme, which was filled with more than 1,140 pictures, excellent ideas and interpretations of the theme. Also, thank you to everyone who helped to make it another successful month by generously posting their pictures and in particular to those people who posted for the first time - I hope you found it an interesting and rewarding experience and I hope it encourages you to share more of your pictures with us! The Barnack's Monthly theme for March 2019 is: Church, temple, synagogue, mosque, place of worship. This month's theme is any pictures containing or inside a church, cathedral, temple, synagogue, mosque, chapel, basilica, shrine, monastery, minster, abbey, Wat, kirk, Society of Friends Meeting House, Kingdom Hall, or other place of worship. It could be a kirk on a hill, a synagogue by the sea, a metropolitan mosque, a Wat beside water, candles in a cathedral, a procession in a basilica, flowers left beside a shrine, a congregation at a church service, a timeless temple, a mosque's minaret, a hill-top monastery, York Minster, Canterbury Cathedral, the Temple of Mithras, Regent's Park Mosque, Westminster Abbey, Stamford Hill Synagogue, St Clement Danes RAF Church, The Guards' Chapel in London, Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Hindu Temple in Brighton, the Buddhahapadipa Buddhist Monastery Temple, sunlight glinting off a crucifix, pews in shadow, sunlit stained glass windows, a chalice, flowers at an alter, a sermon from a pulpit, traditional dress in a temple, a priest's robes, a table with copy of the Talmud, or the Quran or the Bible, or the Book of Mormon, or the Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, a wedding, a funeral, Hanukkah, The Five Pillars of Islam, a Bar Mitzvah, a steeple, a church graveyard, a messy vestry, a cathedral clock - it's entirely your choice so let your imagination run free! It would be a help if you give your picture a title so to help us understand your point of view. Members have asked if we'd very kindly name the camera and lens used - if you can remember - because it's interesting to know but, again, it's just helpful. The rules are deliberately loose so go out and shoot with this month's theme in mind or start searching back through those pictures you took oh-so long ago that you'd forgotten about and start posting! It doesn't have to be your best ever shot and it's not a competition so you might surprise the rest of us and yourself - it's just about sharing some pictures, seeing others' take on the topic, and enjoying it! Everybody's welcome to contribute, any interpretation, any number of posts, pictures that have been posted on the forum before, any equipment as long as it and the photo complies with the forum's rules of either camera or lens or both made by Leica. Please post freely - especially newcomers and please remember there's no judging or criticism (good or bad) in this thread. So, if you'd like to show your acknowledgement or appreciation that someone has posted their picture then instead of posting a comment please use the "Thanks" button that you can find at the bottom right of every post. Please post away and I look forward to seeing your interesting interpretations of this month's theme. Note: Moderator Pop has very kindly assembled links to all of the past Barnack's Monthly threads as a single archive that can be found here: Barnack's Monthly Index. Thank you, Pop! Pete.
2. This couple was waiting for the beginning of a concert. There is a series of 23 concers eah year with high quality music, all entry free. This is a big success and people enjoy after a stressful day an hour of quiet contemplation. Leica Q
3. This is showing one part of your Christmas Market in Bielefeld which is spread over the historic centre of the city. This is the view of one of two gothic churcheand its east side. The shot was handheld, ISO 10.000,f 3.2 @ 1/60 sec. These days are so dark, no chance to check out the new camera under normal daylight conditions.
4. My last shot from that evening walk at the end of the Blue Hour merging into dusk. Leica, Q: 4.o - 1/125 - ISO 12000
5. Also in Prague there are a few churches where you have to pay entry fees. This is a nuisance but usually it is worthwhile to pay this small amount. Often you can enjoy breathtaking interiors and historic places of great interest and importance. While waiting while my husband was in the queue I had time enough for a few shots from under the cashier box. Olympus EM 5 with Nocticron 43 mm/ 1.2
6. Two views of the little church in the Wiltshire hanlet of Winterbourne Monckton. The exterior one is very 'chocolate box' whilst the interior one was hand-held at a very slow shutter-speed. Both MP, Elmarit-M 28mm ASPH, Portra 160.

Devotion

Taken in 2001 on a visit to Vienna using a Leica M6 and 50mm Summicron-M f2. Film is Kodak T400CN which was my favourite film because it was pretty much grain-free and easy to get processed. Post-processed in LRCC. Gerry
9. In the beautiful parish church of St. Mary's, Lydiard Tregoze, Wiltshire. Leica C (an amazingly capable little gem of a camera!).
10. From the album: medieval

The medieval church was all but demolished in the mid 19th century and a new one built a quarter mile to the west, servicing the wider village. This fifteenth century tower is all that remains of the original structure.

11. We have a fort here located at the ridge of our "Teutoburger Wald" looking down to the city beneath. The walking path is a part of one our of long hiking trails , the "Hermann Trail". You can follow it through the forest for 200 km along the hills passing several cities of the region. This place above our city is my favourite vantage point and at times it can be crowded In this case only a young girl sat waiting. Canon 5D MKII with Elmarit R 28 mm, ND graded filter
12. At Purton in Wiltshire. X-Vario. Image one has been treated with ColourEfexPro4 and the second with Analog Efex Pro.
13. From a trip to Varanger in the North of Norway. The old church in Vardø: 20140320_Vardoe-1 by fotoalf, on Flickr And next to the church the very thought-provoking monument over all the people, mostly women, that were burned as witches during 1700. A nasty part of European and Norway history: 20140320_Vardoe-2 by fotoalf, on Flickr 20140320_Vardoe-5 by fotoalf, on Flickr

16. These are from the only stroll to the city of Bielefeld, my hometown, during snowfall. I picked up my stuff, the Canon 5DMKII with Elmarit 35 mm and all wrapped in plastic bag. these are old trees on the road leading to the city on the line of the ancient defense wall of the middle ages one of the two old churches, this is dedicated to St. Mary. Here I would like to know how to avoid the shadows from people passing by. The shutter was open for a few secs but I am afraid to short for the ghost. I could have stopped down even further. this is a park belonging to the Art Museum adjacent to the old city center. Have a look and enjoy even if it is not an expected winter adventure.
17. this view is not far from our house and therefore just ideal for a stroll. I often go there when lighting is promising. On this evening it was clear but not too brilliant, so lights were a bit warmer by a slight haze. The two chruches are the landmarks which are showing the limits of the city in the middle ages. The view is from below of the fort which can be seen in my last postng. thank for sharing a moment. Canon 5D MKII with my favourite Elmarit R 60 mm macro
18. Church, Old Isleworth. During the day, this is all one building...at night, the minimal floodlighting breaks the building up into these unconnected parts. D Lux 4.
