1. M10 just a few months old. Shutter suddenly started clipping 70% of image at 1/4000. Also looks like it's not quite getting out of the way at 1/3000, either. Is this common? Back to the factory? Samples attached.
2. I first noticed that something was terrible wrong when 2/3 of my pictures turned up black. Fortunately I check the images frequently while shooting. To my shock I discovered what you see on this picture. What had happened? I have sent the camera and the two lenses that I were using to Leica awaiting the verdict. Anyone experienced similar? 3. After a serious hike up Volcan Madera in Isla Ometepe, Nicaragua, I am fairly certain my M battery has given up the ghost. It doesn't turn on the camera anymore and stays in 'low charge' mode on the charger forever, occasionally giving the green and orange LED 'blinking' error when trying to charge. Perhaps some water got into it, or it is simply its time to go. Sadly, I don't have any way to get a new Leica M battery easily in Central America. Does anyone know if there's a possible fix? I've kept it in a bag of rice just in case some of the more moist tropical air was the culprit, but that doesn't seem to have fixed it. Long shot, I know, but I'd love to continue shooting down here.
4. Hi suddenly my 50mm summicron (latest version) fell apart in two pieces. I haven't found any reference to this online and I'm a bit "shocked" since I have really treated my lens and camera carefully. Guess I need to send it to Solms, but has any one experienced something similar?
5. So I recently got (for lack of a better word) scammed into buying a Summaron 35 2.8 with a cracked goggle (let's not get into it). The lens functions okay, but I'm wondering what my chances are of replacing the glass on the front of the goggle and what this might cost. The lens is over 60 years old, so I'm not very hopeful but wanted to check anyway. Thanks in advance for any responses.
6. I know it's a strange question but does anyone have any idea where I might get a dummy M9 or M8 or even a broken and useless M9 or M8 body. I am not a collector but I just need a 'dummy' for something I am working on. Can anyone help Many thanks Paul www.glendell.co.uk
7. I have a Leica M8, which I purchased used from Foto Care in NYC in December of 2010. I've been using it regularly sense then with no problems at all. Last night I went to format my card, I navigated to format card, scrolled to "yes" hit set...nothing happened. I hit set again still nothing. I thought maybe there are no images on the card? hit play, an image appeared. I scrolled through them. Again I navigated to format card, scrolled to yes hit set and nothing. I hit the play button and an image appeared, I hit info and got nothing, I hit Delete and the option of deleting one are all appeared. I selected all, hit set. nothing. To sum it up. the the Play Button works, the Delete button works, the info button does not work, the Protect button does not work, the Set button does not work. Otherwise the camera functions as it should. My only thought is that during my last use it was hot and humid I did sweat on the back plate, is it possible that sweat can short out the buttons? It's not like I was pouring sweat. Any feedback will be appreciated.
8. Just wanted to share a strange experience. Somehow the corner of an SD card broke off inside my M9. I sat down to download the day's images. My card reader would not read read the card unless I kept pressure on the card at just the right angle. When I tried to insert another card into the M9, it would not got into the slot completely. I guessed that something was inside the slot and, upon inspecting the card, finally realized that it had broken. I was finally able to use a paperclip to fish the broken bit out of the M9. But it was tricky to find the sliver of black plastic wedged deep in that narrow slot. Still baffled as to how the card was broken, unless it was somehow defective from day one. But I guess that's unknowable. bill
9. Hi everyone - I dropped my M8 from about two feet (the first time I've ever dropped it) and it hit the tile floor. At first, all looked ok then I realized the rangefinder alignment was off. I fixed that thanks to the help on this forum. Then I realized that there was a crack in the viewfinder eyepiece (the round part on the back). Does anyone know if this is a part I can replace myself and where I would be able to purchase a new piece of glass? Mark Norton did a teardown of the M8 a couple of years ago, but I couldn't see how the eyepiece was held together. Any insight or advice is appreciated. Thanks, all.
10. Hi Guys, I've been using my M6 TTL without an issue for sometime and then I left it dormant for around a year when I left the country... Now the meter wont work , the M6 would work fine and still take pictures if exposed correctly with an external light meter, but the mechanism now would not turn on. I'm based in NYC and have sent it to the Leica repair and they sent it back saying that they can't fix it because they "no longer have the parts", I contact Sherry Krauter and she said that she gets her parts from Leica, so if they don't have it, she won't either. So really now I'm just asking for help! Thanks! H
11. Hello there, I have decided to start a topic on jammed shutter issue of Leica film cameras. I experienced this issue while taking photos at the Shard. My camera had been loaded with Adox CMS 20 II, the microfilm had the highest resolving power. The first fifteen frames were beautiful to enjoy the view. Yet after 16th frame, the camera was jammed. Since I tried to force its advance lever, it was totally broken. One wondering what was happened may look at the result here. I sent my camera to Wetzlar via Leica Store Mayfair. After eight weeks, it came back to London in a repaired condition under warranty. Recently, I have heard similar experiences to mine. Some of them is not related to choose Adox's films, since they have occurred while using Ilford's HP5+, and so on. In order to build a guide for one who could experience the same, may you share your experiences on jammed shutter, or advance lever stuck?
12. Thank you to everyone who took part in November's Barnack's Monthly theme, which was filled with a wonderful array of nearly pictures and excellent ideas and interpretations of the theme! Thank you to everyone who helped to make it another successful month by generously posting their pictures and in particular to those people who posted for the first time - I hope you found it an interesting and rewarding experience and I hope it encourages you to share more of your pictures with us! The Barnack's Monthly theme for December 2016 is: "Statue, standing, still, stationary, or statuesque" This month's theme is a statue or anything in a state of stasis whether temporarily or permanently. This could be a triumphal statue, a stationary sloop, a statuesque woman, still waters, a bike against a railing, a train waiting to leave, a hovering helicopter, a man standing on one leg, a horse in a field, Nelson's Column, a still evening, frozen movement, the Louvre, a gondola suspended on a cable, a spinning plate balancing on a pointy stick, Michelangelo's David, the Venus de Milo, Venus over Milan, a balloon hanging in the sky, a De Lorean at traffic lights, a parked Ferrari, a stationary stationery van, a sitting statue - it's entirely your choice so let your imagination run free! It would be a help if you give your picture a title so to help us understand your point of view but it's not compulsory. Members have asked if we'd very kindly name the camera and lens used - if you can remember - because it's interesting to know but, again, it's not compulsory just helpful. The rules are deliberately loose so go out and shoot with this month's theme in mind or start searching back through those pictures you took oh-so long ago that you'd forgotten about and start posting! It doesn't have to be your best ever shot and it's not a competition so you might surprise the rest of us and yourself - it's just about sharing some pictures, seeing others' take on the topic, and enjoying it! Everybody's welcome to contribute, any interpretation, any number of posts, pictures that have been posted on the forum before, any equipment as long as it and the photo complies with the forum's rules of either camera or lens or both made by Leica. Please post freely - especially newcomers and please remember there's no judging or criticism (good or bad) in this thread. So, if you'd like to show your acknowledgement or appreciation that someone has posted their picture then instead of posting a comment please use the "Thanks" button that you can find at the bottom right of every post. Please post away and I look forward to seeing your interesting interpretations of this month's theme. Note: Moderator Pop has very kindly assembled links to all of the past Barnack's Monthly threads as a single archive that can be found here: Barnack's Monthly Index. Thank you, Pop! Pete
13. Hi All. When I switch on my d-lux 5 the screen says "please set the clock" - yes, easy to do but the buttons are not responding - it was fine yesterday and has not been used or dropped since then. Occasionally it will go to the clock set screen but that's it and will only do this automatically - not by the buttons. It's seems like a software issue. I've ftied to update the firmware but I think I'm already on v2.0 and unless i'm mistaken this is the highest - this doesn't seem like a mechanical or electronic fault - it's vey weird - any one seen this? Thanks Matt.
14. My Coolscan V went out of order about 15 month back. After ignoring him for that long, I finally gave it a final try and opened it. Some screws are hidden under the rubber feet. Thanks to the nicely printed circuit board, I quickly found out where the fuse is. The specification on the board says T2AH 250V. Not really an electronic wizard, I however concluded after some internet checks, that this requires a 2A, 250V fuse, "träge" (don't know how to translate that in this context, maybe "slow"). Then I discovered that Nikon has actually placed a 1A fuse in the socket, which was blown not quite surprisingly. After replacement with the proper fuse, the whole thing runs as it never had a problem. Regards Ivo
15. Before I run off the the repair shop, I thought that I might be doing something wrong. In manual, a or s mode I cannot change the settings which are stuck on f6.3 and 1/25. Have I set something in the menu incorrectly or is there something else I can do befor I go on the great suppot search? Regards, Paul

17. I was just about to wrap up after taking a few shots of my empty apartment when the tripod somehow slipped out of my hand and bang! The Leica hit the hardwood floor. First I was in shock, but at least the body itself didn't even have a single dent. I tried to turn on the camera, the screen showed up and the controls seemed to work fine, but then the camera seemed to have a problem with the shutter release. It just kept going and going and going, the same sound you hear right after taking a picture, just that it would repeat about two times per second non-stop. This was of course frustrating. I took off the lens, opened the battery cover, changed the battery, turned the camera on and off etc., the same non-stop shutter sound came back again. I am sure many of you would never consider opening the M8, but I am not that kind of person. I thought I should give it a try at least, to see if it was maybe just a simple problem, maybe something got stuck. After unscrewing the screws under the batter cover, I was able to remove the plastic cover, which then revealed part of the shutter mechanism. And there it was--it was indeed stuck. I carefully moved it back into position, screwed everything back together and was quite relieved because it worked The camera doesn't show any symptoms anymore whatsoever. After taking a couple of test shots, it appeared that the camera is back to normal again. I thought I would share this experience--not that I suggest taking the camera apart if something goes wrong, but if it's a similar problem to mine, it may be well worth it. Attached is a test shot (with default automatic settings, nothing spectacular, just my wonderful Musical Fidelity amp). DrTebi
