  1. Ich erlaube mir mal einen Thread für das Format 6x6 zu eröffnen und beginne mit ein paar Bildern. Rolleiflex Automat K4b, TMY 400, D76.
  2. Taken in my home town. I found the Agfa quite grainy in Adox FX39 so will change to Microphen as a trial. The grain is no major problem as I can reduce it in Lightroom but it would be if I wanted to go larger than maybe 25x20cm. Leica M6 + 35mm Summarit-M f2.5 - Agfa APX400 Gerry
  3. I am still editing images taken on my visits to Paris. This is the latest to be chosen. Taken on Tri-X in 1999 using an M6 with a 50mm Summicron f2 lens. You can see my 'Streets of Paris' portfolio at https://gwpics.myportfolio.com/the-streets-of-paris I am hoping to get a book together in the relatively near future, so comments are welcome. Gerry
  4. A drizzly, cold, damp afternoon on New York City's famed High Line gave a moody, monochrome atmosphere which called for this shot to be captured in B&W. This M240 is my first Leica since my M2. This camera made me fall in love with B&W all over again. I could so trade this in for the M262 Monochrom.
  5. When you arrive to the tiny church of San Giovanni in Ranui, on the Dolomites (Italy), you are faced with one of these classic views that have been photographed to death but which timeless beauty is just undeniable. On a beautiful May sunset, I forewent the sunset colours and portrayed it in a dramatic black & white, with the help of an amazing sky and of a 2-minutes long exposure. With Leica SL, Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90mm and the incredible Formatt-Hitech Firecrest Ultra filters. Thank you for viewing, best regards Vieri
  6. I just now happened to stumble upon this essay on the M10 Monochrom which is accompanied by a nice set of sample images. In thinking about the concept of a black and white only digital camera in general and about the M10 Monochrom in particular, I was smitten with a thought that I cannot shake free of: The M 10 Monochrom may well be the pinnacle of the digital M camera. It is going to be an awfully hard act to follow. If anyone can best the M10 Monochrom, it would have to be the gents and ladies of Werzlar. https://www.popphoto.com/story/gear/hands-on-leica-m10-monochrome/
  7. Life is pretty quiet photographically for me at the moment, mostly due to really bad weather with heavy rain which makes street photography almost impossible. This means I am continuing my journey through my archives, and this I had forgotten. It shows a typical English pastime - playing bowls. The white clothes are the standard dress for everyone, and afternoon tea is almost compulsory. English tradition at its best. Leica M3 + 50mm Summicron f2. Ilford 400 Delta. 1997.
  8. For those who use the Q2 to create black and white images, what have you found is the way to get the best results in terms of image quality? Do you shoot in color then convert to B&W in post processing? If so, which software program do you prefer? I know we already have a Q2 image thread, but if we could see some examples of B&W images made with the Q2 in this thread by way of example, that would be great. My Q2 is on the way and I want to learn about how to maximize it for black and white imagery, particularly for making exhibit quality B&W prints. I'm sure many others will be interest in this, too.
  9. Paris 1997 Leica M3 + 50mm Summicron f2 and Fuji Neopan 400PR © Gerry Walden/gwpics.com When, oh when, are we going to get Fuji Neopan 400PR back! Gerry
  10. Here's an interesting article about the "new and improved" Acros II black and white film from Fuji: Comparing Fujifilm NEOPAN 100 ACROS II to original ACROS. What's the difference? https://emulsive.org/articles/comparing-fujifilm-neopan-100-acros-ii-to-original-acros-whats-the-difference

    Old-timer

It was in 1997 when my wife and I first visited New England. I wanted to attend the annual Star Island ‘escape’ of the New Hampshire Society of Photographic Artists, and it was to celebrate our 28th wedding anniversary. Both of us had always wanted to visit the area for the fall colours, so we scraped the money together and did the trip. One of our days was spent travelling the road which was the old route of i95 before it became a multi-lane highway, to discover a little of rural America north of Boston. It turned out to be a fascinating drive with abandoned wood-built hotels, and large empty barns, both of which had died when the traffic deserted the road for the new superhighway. During our travels we came across a car lot selling rusty old heaps of autos which I did not understand why anybody would pay the price, but which I enjoyed enjoyed photographing. Today there is a programme here on cable TV in the UK called “American Pickers” and I understand the American restoration market more, and therefore the old-time autos sat by the roadside. As it was, I was just fascinated to see them and photograph some of them.I was new to Leica having bought my M3 double-stroke about 6 months earlier, and was using Kodak T400CN film so I could get it processed as I went to avoid x-ray problems at the airport. The lens was a beat-up 50mm Summicron f2 because it was what I could afford. I have just been going through the archives, and I particularly like this image. I may be wrong but I reckon the price would now be about 4 times what is shown here.If anybody knows the make and model of the auto, or the location of the car lot I would like to know.Hope you like the image!Gerry
  12. While we suffer an interminable wait for the (alleged soon to be) M10 Monochrom, I have to ask: Why not a Q2 Monochrom?? Think of the possibilities that a full frame, 47 MP, ISO 50,000 Monochrom with a 28mm f/1.7 lens and a silent leaf shutter would have to offer! To the gents in Wetzlar, I have to ask: Are you listening? To everyone else, I ask: What are your thoughts on a Q2 Monochrom?

  14. As the saying goes "Birds of a feather flock together". I spotted these gulls taking advantage of a pontoon to have a rest after a hard rainstorm. I found it fascinating that they were all facing exactly the same way. Leica M240 + 35mm Summarit f2.5. Shot as .dng and converted to black and white in Lightroom Classic. Hope you like it Gerry
  15. I was just leaving the waterside park area when I spotted this guy. I was already driving so I drove back around the park and parked up so that I could catch him. It had just been pouring with rain so I think he stopped under the tree to take shelter, but he then sat on the wet grass. Leica M240 + 35mm Summarit f2.5. Shot as .dng and converted to black and white in Lightroom Classic. Hope you like it Gerry
  16. It was the annual Gay pride event in my home town of Southampton, and there was the usual plethora of street vendors including the balloon sellers. This guy only sold unicorn belloons, and made an interesting subject. This is a very colourful event and it would have been easy to be overwhelmed by the colour, but I made the decision to shoot it b&w: Leica M240 + 50mm Summicron-M f2 Gerry
  17. I have just acquired a 50mm Summicron-M f2 IV so I took it for a test run (which consisted of one shot) today. This was at 1250 iso 1/125 and f6.8 - Gerry
  18. From a film returned from the lab today. Leica M4-P + 35mm Summarit f2.5. Kodak T-Max 400. Gerry
  19. Taken on Leica M4-P and 35mm Summicron f2.5 lens using Kodak T-Max 400 film. No metering done. Film was lab processed. Gerry
