  1. Ich erlaube mir mal einen Thread für das Format 6x6 zu eröffnen und beginne mit ein paar Bildern. Rolleiflex Automat K4b, TMY 400, D76.
  2. Taken in my home town. I found the Agfa quite grainy in Adox FX39 so will change to Microphen as a trial. The grain is no major problem as I can reduce it in Lightroom but it would be if I wanted to go larger than maybe 25x20cm. Leica M6 + 35mm Summarit-M f2.5 - Agfa APX400 Gerry
  3. I am still editing images taken on my visits to Paris. This is the latest to be chosen. Taken on Tri-X in 1999 using an M6 with a 50mm Summicron f2 lens. You can see my 'Streets of Paris' portfolio at https://gwpics.myportfolio.com/the-streets-of-paris I am hoping to get a book together in the relatively near future, so comments are welcome. Gerry
  4. I am slowly managing to get out more now, ands back in my usual coffee shop yesterday. I couldn't resist taking a candid image of this young lady at the counter because of her height. She must have been about 1.8 metres. Leica M240 + 35mm Summarit f2.5 @ 1250 iso. 1/250 @ f2.8 and post-processed in Lightroom Classic. Gerry
  5. It is that time of year again when one of the local universities holds its graduation ceremony. I captured this scene of a couple of students making their way to the ceremony in the obligatory mortarboard and gown. Leica M240 + 50mm Summicron-M f2. 1/2000 f3.4 @ 320iso Gerry
  6. I have shot very little this past year for various health and Covid reasons. Here is one that I was pleased with from my favourite café. It is a grab shot as I just had the camera resting on the table and didn't look through the viewfinder. Leica M7 + 35mm Summarit-M f2.5. Kodak T-Max 400 at 400. No exposure values recorded. Commercially processed and scanned at home. Gerry
  7. Back in 1997 and again in 2000 I took part in workshops/retreats organised by the New Hampshire Society of Photographic Artists on a small group of islands called the Isles of Shoals off the coast of New Hampshire. I was the only "outsider" there, being from England. The trip was extended both times to make the travel worthwhile. I shot mostly black and white using Kodak T400CN so I could get it processed locally and not worry about x-ray damage at the airport. In 1997 I used an M3 and in 2000 it was an M6. I have recently been invited my the Portsmouth Athenaeum to add my images to their archives of the area for posterity, and have gladly accepted as i consider it an honour. There is a lot of work involved scanning negatives and spotting etc. but there are also a lot of memories. You can see some of the work on the portfolio page of my website, please take a look, or there is a taster attached from 1997. Who knows, one day it may be an exhibition! Gerry
  8. From todays trip into town for coffee this morning, the first one for a while for various reasons. Leica M240 + 35mm Summarit-M f2.5. Gerry
  9. It was great to finally be able to get out to my favourite cafe yesterday and drink coffee with a friend I haven't seen since Christmas. I have been having problems with my knee and have found walking almost impossible but thankfully I am just using one stick now. This is one image I grabbed whilst sat outside the cafe in the beautiful sunshine Leica M240 + 35mm Summarit f2.5 Gerry
  10. When I was a young child my summers were spent walking the 600 or so metres from my home to the nearby river to play in its clear waters. Now close on 70 years later this image reminds me so much of those happy days. That is the power of photography. Leica M6 + 50mm Summicron f2 - Kodak T400CN film - ©1997 Gerry

    The Drag Queen

Just selected by LFI for their gallery. Leica M7 with 35mm Summarit f2.5 and using Kodak Tri-X lab processed. Permission given by drag artist to photograph. Gerry
  12. Hello! I'm trying to lock in a scanning workflow for B/W 35mm and I've had such a love/hate relationship with my Coolscan 5000 and Vuescan. The detail extracted is second to none, but I'm seeing EVERY flaw as well. There are hairline surface scratches that explode on the screen from these scans that are nowhere to be found on a mirrorless camera scan or a darkroom print. Is this just inherent to the scanning physics? Is it scanning the surface and therefore every film base scratch is seen? Again, if you backlight the negative, all of these tiny scratches are invisible. Hence why they don't show up in camera scans or darkroom prints. Any ideas?

    Take a Seat

This is from the first roll of home-processed film I have used for a very long time, and I am pleased with the result. Leica M4-P + 50mm Summicron f2 - f8 @ 1/125th - Ilford HP5+ developed in Adox FX39. Gerry
  14. Hello all, I shoot DNG nearly exclusively. I noticed that when I bring the files shot with the internal M11 Monochrome profile, that once imported into Lightroom, they are no longer black and white. The M11 profiles do not seem to be available in Lightroom. Has anyone solved this? Thanks, Dave
  15. Another from the last film I processed. Taken just standing and shooting on the street, so a 'grab' shot. This is a crop from the full frame. I must confess that I quite like the look of the film even though it is clearly not the 'original' Agfa product and is a bit grainy so has to be worked on Maybe a change in developer would calm it down. Leica M6 + 35mm Summarit-M f2.5. Agfa APX400 processed in Adox FX39ii. Gerry
  16. Taken candid handheld using available light only from roughly waist level. Leica M6 + 35mm Summarit-M f2.5. Ilford HP5+ developed in Adox FX39 II. Gerry
  17. Normally I shoot candidly, but because I wanted to get in tight and had the 35mm lens on, this time I asked for permission - no problem. image was cropped to about 50%. Leica M6 + 35mm Summarit-M f2.5. Ilford HP5+. 1/125 @ f11. Adox FX-39 II dev. Gerry
  18. This is from a roll of Agfapan APX400 which I processed yesterday in Adox FX39. Leica M6 + 35mm Summarit-M f2.5 Gerry
  19. Another from my favourite cafe. This is a candid shot taken handheld at 1/30th @ f2.5 by available light. Leica M6 + 35mm Summarit-M f2.5. Agfa APX400 film processed in Adox FX39. Gerry

    Dry Berth

Taken as part of my return to film photography on the first roll put through my new (to me) Leica M6, which I am loving. 35mm Summarit-M f2.5 lems. Ilford HP5+ (expired) rated at 400 iso and processed in Adox FX-39 II developer 1:9. Scanned into Lightroom Classic. Gerry
  21. Joerg-Peter Rau shares his thoughts on the loss of his darkroom that was located in the basement of his mother's home. Reading this essay is but one of several recent serendipities that are compelling me to revisit black and white film photography and to get my film developing gear out of the cabinet where it has laid dormant for too long... Turn off the red light: My farewell to the darkroom https://www.macfilos.com/2023/01/18/turn-off-the-red-light-my-farewell-to-the-darkroom/
  22. Another from my latest film back from the lab. This was taken on the M7 prior to getting rid of it (big mistake!) using the 35mm Summarit-M f2.5. Film is Kodak T-Max400 processed by Harman Labs who do a pretty good job. No idea of exposure (sorry) but was available light only. I particularly love the face of the little child in the background. Gerry
  23. John Brockliss brings us a well reasoned essay on monochrome photography with the M cameras that are made specifically for this pursuit: The Leica M Monochrom family. The Q2 Monochrom is not mentioned, but it should be looked at closely by those who want to commit to black and white photography by digital means. The Q2 is a powerful tool, whether you choose the color or Monochrom variant. I got my M10 Monochrom in July of 2020 out of a desire to do more in black and white photography, and because I saw the M10 Mono as a breed apart, a special camera. Spring is the time for color shooting, with flowering trees in full bloom so I have been shooting color of late. Even with my desire to do more exploration of the digital black and white realm, I have been reluctant to commit to the Monochrom and black and white imaging exclusively. As I read, re-read and reflect on this essay, I'm thinking my reluctance to making that commitment may eventually weaken.
  24. Just a grab shot whilst walking around. Leica M240 + 35mm Summarit-M f2.5. Shot as .dng and converted to b&w using Lightroom Classic. Gerry
