  1. Hi all, How good is Biogon-C 35 2.8 on M240? Being conceived for film / crop sensors, is there any color cast and/or corner smearing used on full frame digital? And how is compared to Summarit 2.4/35 and 2.5/35? By the way, I've seen MTF figures between 2.4 and 2.5 and they seem slight different, 2.4 seems to be less sharp in center but sharper in the corners than its 2.5 predecessor. Anyone who tried both? How they compares to last (v5/v6) Summicron, that I know quite well? Thanks in advance S.
Was würdet Ihr wählen und warum? Beide Kombis sind voll funktionstüchtig und die gebrauchten Komponenten würde ich als A-B Zustand bewerten. Danke für eure Anregungen und Meinungen. Besten Gruß und allzeit gut Licht Michael
  3. I'm thoroughly enjoying my new M10 with the 35mm & 50mm Summiluxes, a 90mm/f2.0 and 135mm Telyt Leica lenses. To cover the wide end for architecture/landscape, I got a Voigtlander Ultron 21mm/f1.8. I'm used to fast lenses from Fuji X. Since I love landscapes, and am curious about Zeiss lenses, I've found there are two interesting options, Biogon 25mm/f2.8 and Biogon 28mm/f2.8. What do you guys think of those as filling the 21-35mm gap? How do you feel about the relative slowness at 2.8? How's the rendering compared to the Luxes? And which one makes more sense, 25 or 28mm? I see that 21mm is quite fish-eye-y and would like a bit straighter lines... A+
  4. Most of us seem to be photographers as well as collectors. Show me your favorite lenses, old and new alike. I like the Noctilux range for the extreme apertures, but I prefer the Summilux range for the best speed:size/weight ratio. Here’s a Summilux gathering of 21, 24, 28, 35, 50 and 75mm. All in black.
  5. Hi folks, I’ll be purchasing a Leica M-A in the new year, and I’m wondering which lens to get. I would love the Elmarit, but the reality is is that if the quality of the ZM lens is pretty great and the distortion is low (note: I want very little distortion so I can do portrait work on my fav focal length without getting weird images) I’ll probably opt for the Biogon because it’s much cheaper. What are people’s thoughts on the Zeiss? Or do I just drop the extra cash and get the Elmarit?
  6. The price for both of these lenses is similar enough that I'm considering them both.. Actually, what I'm considering is more like this. CZ 35mm Biogon f/2 + CV Nokon 40 1.4 or Nokton 35mm 1.2 ASPH II I need a lens for indoors, when visiting friends, etc.. and I need to to be relatively fast, ~ f/1.4 or so. I'm a big fan of Zeiss, the 50 1.4 on my 5D Mk III was my most used lens. I've read fantastic things about the Biogon f/2 and comparing the sharpness of the Biogon @ f/2 and the Nokton 1.2 @ f/2, they're pretty evenly matched (according to what I read via Sean Reid). Obviously the Biogon isn't that fast, so I was thinking of pairing it with a Nokton 40 1.4 for those indoor uses, while the Biogon would be for mainly outdoor usage (I had also tested an 35mm Ultron 1.7 but it was a bit softer wide-open then I was hoping). I'm picking up an M9 + CZ Planar 50mm f/2 shortly (that decision is finally made!), so unfortunately I do not have a ton of money left over for 35mm.. $1500-$1600 is probably it, so unfortunately any fast Leica's are out of reach. Is there anyone out there who has used both the Nokton 35 1.2 II and the Biogon f/2 and decided to keep one or the other (or has any input on the two?) I realize they have different applications, and I'm a bit worried the Nokton 1.2 might be just a large and unwieldy lens that works great in lower-light situations, but end up being not so useful for an every-day, general 35mm lens. I think the Biogon + Nokton 40 1.4 might be a better combo, but it's almost $400-$500 more. Thoughts, comments, suggestions?
  7. Hello, I wonder if anyone can explain or diagnose a behaviour that to me, anyway, as a new M9 user, is a bit strange and disconcerting? I just bought a used Zeiss Biogon 2.8/25 ZM on ebay. Seems in perfectly acceptable condition. But when I mount it on my M9 (bought new last October) and try to focus with it, the whole (internal) viewfinder seems to move around, from side to side and (slightly less) up and down. Is this normal or should I be worried? I see from this thread on the Rangefinder forum that there were two versions of the Biogon 25 ZM's bayonet mount - I don't know if that has anything to do with it: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87222 The lens codes helpfully listed here mention a 'mount fix' for the Biogon 25: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-news/leica-lens-codes/ The Biogon 25 shifts the viewfinder on my M8, too, though the movement seems slightly less. Any advice or reassurance will be gratefully received! Best wishes
  8. A Saturday morning at the market in Neufchatel-en-Bray. A pity that such stalls tend to be something of a rarity in England nowadays. M9, ZM35mm Biogon f2.0. C+C welcomed.
  9. I currently have a voigtlander 35mm skopar Pancake II lens. I love the physical size and the smooth focus action, but while the image details are fine for flickr, they seem to fall apart when I enlarge? I don't mind the creamy look that happens when I shoot wide open (so i might keep it for that effect for certain jobs), but I do mind the very pronounced flare that happens quite a bit. I am considering a black Zeiss 35mm Biogon C f2.8 lens (NOT the f2), the leica 35mm summicron aspherical in black paint finish (aesthetically pleasing to me) and the chrome summicron (maybe pre-asph) which I believe is more compact and has a slightly heavier feel? Anyone have subjective opinions on these lenses? Zeiss seems like a relative bargain if it holds up wide open. If it does not hold up wide open, it is too slow. I will be using it mostly on my black paint Leica MP. I shoot lots of tri-x, but for critical work I shoot slower films. Your opinions are most welcome.
  10. Hi everyone, I am considering a purchase of the zeiss biogon 25 mm f/2.8 lens to fill a hole in my focal lengths between 21 and 35 for my M system. I primarily use an M8, but also have an M3 DS. Are they any of you out there using this lens? What are your opinions? Popflash has a great deal on a 25 biogon modified for M8 framelines, which may be a nice option for me. For me, the 28 mm focal length is too close to 35 mm, and I probobably wouldn't use a 28 mm lens. I have considered the 24 mm elmarit, but it's much pricier than the biogon, which some individuals say outresolve the elmarit. I would love to own a 24 summilux, but the cost ($6,000 USD) is too much for my wallet. I have briefly thought about the CV 25 f/4, but I understand that this lens has some issues with decentering and is slower. As a caveat, I have read Sean Reid's excellent review of the 24/25 lenses on his website (Thanks, Sean, your site is AMAZING), and enjoyed the review. My read on Sean's review is that the biogon draws differently than the elmarit and doesn't have the "je ne sais quoi" of the elmarit, but maybe I am wrong. I wanted to gather opinions of the lense from other current or former users as well. The price of the biogon is right ($1,500 cheaper than the elmarit), but what about IQ, rendering, micro/macro contrast, and how the lens draws in general. What have been your user experiences? Did you like it? Have you gotten rid of it? Is the elmarit justify the price difference between the biogon (subjective question, I know)... Thanks for helping me with your thoughts and consideration.
  11. Taken earlier this month in the village of Crissay-sur-Manse in the Indre-et-Loire department of France. M9, Zeiss Biogon 35mm f2, SilverEfex Pro 2. C+C welcomed.
  12. A late (and cold) January afternoon enjoying the atmosphere at the place where it all began... M9, ZM Biogon 35mm f2.
  13. All; I currently own a Leica M8, and have a 28mm and 50mm lens. On the M8, the 28mm is a (37mm equivalent, and the 50 is approx. a 66mm) Blah-Blah-Blah Anyway, I was thinking about a 35mm, (which would give me approx. a 46mm on the M8). I'm not looking to spend $3k on a 35mm Summicron. I've heard some good things about the Summarit and the Zeiss Biogons. The only thing about the Summarit is that the optional shade ($135.00) only screws in part of the way, as there is some sort of stop, which keeps it oriented properly since it is a rectangular shade. Now, what if I use a Cut IR on the Summarit, (which is pretty much mandatory for the M8)? Can the Optional Summarit lens shade screw into that properly, or should I just opt for a 'generic' B+W screw-in round metal shade for $25.00? You would really have to own a Summarit to know what I'm talking about. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks, Brad

    Testshots in twilight

In order to test the Biogon 25mm on my new M8.2, I shot some buildings that surround my office in The Hague. Image 3 is taken with the summicron. If you want to enjoy full sharpness of the Biogon, here you can find one of the files: http://www.xs4all.nl/~kpmg0072/images/L1001075.jpg
  15. At PMA I had a chance to chat for a while with the Zeiss guys, and fondle a bunch of ZM lenses... nice stuff really. I have been bemoaning the poor fit of the lens-hood to the 1.3 crop factor image when using the M8. (naturally the lens-hood is perfect on my M6) And mentioned that it would be nice to have a line of more aggressive lens-hoods for M8 users. after thinking for a moment the Zeiss guy pulled out a 50mm and popped the hood on my 28mm... we did a couple of test shots and it fits perfectly. Well, the hood arrived, and yesterday I shot a few quick exposures, each with and without the 50mm hood on the 28mm biogon. Result, while not entirely scientific, is pretty clear, the 28mm 2.8 Biogon does vignette on the M8, however there is no difference with or without the cs50 lenshood. as this hood is far more agressive than the normal lens hood for this lens designed for full-frame use, the cs50 hood will do a significant better job a reducing flare and protecting contrast when the lens is used on a M8 (or a epson RD for that matter) In other words if you own a 28mm biogon - you should order a cs50 lenshood for it.
