  1. Just found out that my next M246 suffers from sensor issues. My first M246 was replaced because there was an error with the sensor on the first one, and now it's happening all over with the M246 which replaced the first one with sensor error; i have to send my next M246 to service. Three years ago i jumped in the water: I switched to Leica from Nikon (and a short period with Canon) after 25 years without any techinical faults or issues what so ever, and i never looked back. That is until now, because i'm wondering if i really want to stay with Leica after these experiences after all. Three years with severe errors on two different digital bodies (sensors). - Is this sufficent enough? - What would you expect from Leica's customer service in this matter? - Would you go the other way around again, turn the back on Leica and return to Nikon based upon the experiences these (first) three years? Or shall i just tolerate this?
  2. Many have waited and longed for this day. At last, Leica will let the buyer decide what he/she wants in a Monochrom! http://www.photographyblog.com/news/leica_m_monochrom_a_la_carte/ Another article - https://www.ephotozine.com/article/leica-m-monochrom-added-to-leica-a-la-carte-camera-personalisation-service-29513
  3. Within the M system, If we want to make black and white prints we have the following options: Film M camera and film, M240/M-P conversion to B&W, M Monochrom version one and M Monochrom typ 246. I must admit that so far I have never seen a B&W print from the typ 246 fine print in real time, only on the web; it seems that M cameras of any kind in these parts (midwest USA) are only slightly more prevalent than unicorns. From what I can see online though, the image quality of typ 246 prints when created by a skilled printer is simply astounding; by all appearances, typ 246 prints look for all the world like they equal or exceed 4x5 inch prints made in a wet darkroom. I have shot a lot of B&W film in my M4-P and I still love that camera and the process of film photography. However, the typ 246 is a compelling camera in light of the printed image quality it produces (based on my limited observations) and other considerations such as a maximum ISO of 25,000 and the speed/convenience of digital shooting and printing. For those who own the typ 246 camera and make fine prints, can you provide some insight regarding printed image quality? Any thoughts on the process of printing from typ 246 image files will be greatly appreciated; is it best to shoot in compressed DNG mode or uncompressed DNG? Thanks in advance to any and all who reply. I am seriously considering acquiring a Monochrom 246 and will be grateful for any insight and thoughts shared.
  4. This morning my M246 was acting strange when i was focusing. Maybe not so easy to explain, but i can try. When i was turning the focus ring on the lens from ∞ towards 0.7 m the viewfinder pattern/focus mechanism on the camera acted like it was 'sticky' - it locked in a certain distance and didn't respond. The first time it happened, the focus was locked on around 2 meters, and the pattern to focus with, didn't respond when i tried to focus on 1 meter where my object was. I turned the focus ring back and forth 3-4 times, and suddenly it was released from the distance where it was locked. I could hear it clearly with a 'click' as well, when it de-snapped and was released again. I switched the camera on-off a few times, and the strange thing is that i could provoke it to happen 7-8 times, even when the camera was switched off. I looked in the viewfinder, and the pattern/focus mechanism was acting 'sticky' at different distances between 3 - 0.8 meters, and would not release (or anti stick) before i turned the focus ring on the lens in the opposite direction, towards infinity again. What's happening? Have you experienced something like this?
  5. I've just noticed that my M246, which i got in june, has many spots and some stripes in the images. Download the full quality sample picture in the bottom in this post I mounted a new Summicron 35 mm on the camera when i bought it, and the lens has never been taken off the camera. Therefore dust from changing lenses is not an option. I always take very good care of my equipment, and the camera has never been exposed to dust or moisture. Therefore i also don't consider this to be an option to the spots and stripes that can be seen in images. The post continues under the picture Even if i can "only" count some few spots in this picture, i loose the number of all the spots when tweaking different parameters in Lightroom with the raw DNG The camera has been used very little, because of a back injury i got shortly after buying it, and the camera has for the most part been stored safe in my photo bag (which is perfectly clean and dust free). Do you know why the spots and stripes are on the images from the camera? What could be the explanation? You can download the raw DNG and tweak and tune different parameters in Lightroom/Photoshop to see the spots and stripes more clearly here: http://we.tl/QOnkScHIGa (WeTransfer link, expires on October 17'th)
  7. Hi there! I've now had the new Monochrom for two months, but i'm doubting how long the learning period should be. Still i haven't been able to shoot that single picture that makes me feel: Yes, that picture makes it all worth the buy. I've just been doing test shooting so far, since my experience from before tells me that it's important to master the camera to a certain degree to be so confident with a camera that it feels natural enough to just be a tool. My pictures just seems flat and missing both the contrast and that "pop" in the pictures. I have even tried orange filter in landscape photography. This is my first digital Leica. How long do you think the learning curve and period should - or could - be for a digital Leica newcomer?
  8. Does anybody in this forum know if it's safe to put a piece of tape over the loudspeaker holes on the left side of the top to minimize the risk of dust to enter the camera? Is there any electronic inside that heats up and that could get even hotter if tape is placed over the loudspeaker holes? Have you tried it? If yes, what's your experience?
  9. Sorry about the strange question, but i will give it a go: Somewhere on the internet i've read, that leather straps can be the cause to fungus in both lenses and cameras, while i've on other sites have been reading that this is nonsense. My Monochrom, the M6 and my lenses are being stored in a camera bag while not in use. Should i have any concerns if a Luigi's leather strap is attached to the camera while in my bag, or is it better to just mount and use the leather strap while using the camera, and it's not in the bag? Can leather straps attached to my cameras, while being stored in my camera bag, ultimately cause fungus? If i should attach/detach the leather strap every time the cameras come in and out of the bag, then i maybe just will stick to the original, supplied nylon strap, which - though - isn't comfortable to use.
