  1. Over the last months, I got to know my TL2 quite well. And overall, I am very pleased with the results that I get. Sometimes the TL2 firmware is not well behaved, but I found a workaround that I can live with for most issues. Now, because I use lots of M and R lenses on both my SL and TL2, I finally caved in and bought a M-L adapter. Until now, I was using a mechanical adapter, but both SL and TL2 will not record any lens profile to EXIF, even if you choose one. On my SL, I can see all profiles available for M and R lenses. On my TL2 (firmware 1.5) I never saw such a list. Thinking it must be because I do not have the native M-L adapter, and knowing the info will not be saved anyway, I did not bother. Now, WITH the native Leica M-L adapter, the TL2 still not shows any list for the M lens profiles ?! Any coded M lens is registered correctly, but I would like to chose the profile manually like I can on my SL for my uncoded lenses. Am I missing something here?
  2. I used to have a TL camera but sold it. Now I have an urge to buy a "new" TL2. It doesn't make sense - just humor my insanity. I see a lot of "L" alliance lenses available, most of the for FF cameras. I believe that they'll work on a TL2 even if only the center of the image gets recorded. But I've also read somewhere that the TL2 won't work with the newer "L" lenses due to some firmware compatibility issues. Is this true? The TL2 needs some sort of an firmware update which, of course, is never coming from Leica. Bottom line: what appears to be a substantial list of "L" lenses for the TL2 is far less than it appears when talking about actually working on a TL2. Is my understanding correct? Please advise. Dan
  3. this was on Instagram...hilarious.. The "Leica Look"....Industar M39 lens on a TL2..brilliant
  4. I experience this result in some situations - I am new to Leica TL2 (Canon D5 before). I am very satisfied with most things, but this is a bugger. Probably something with the artificial lightning - but why? And can it be fixed? Any one with sim. issues?
  5. Lupines are blanketing the areas around Folsom Lake. Here are a few images from a morning visit. All pics/panoramas taken with TL2/18-56 mm combo. It was frustrating to watch people trample wildflowers for their dumb selfies and/or kid portraits as well as 'professional' photogs doing model shoots and dragging all their gear on the flowers.
  6. Hi, I want to to know how good are the 50mm crop of the Q2 because I like that kind of prospective... A CL with the TL 35 Summilux 1.4 lens (so 50mm equivalent as is an APSC) is equal or better? Thanks to all who can help me
  7. Hi guys, I am sure this topic is covered over and over again, but I can't help starting a new thread to help me out in a very difficult decision. It feels like a very difficult decision anyway. Some background: I have been photographing for the past 15 years, and for a few of those professionally. I have been a strong Nikon fan throughout (sorry for swearing in the church), but have also owned and used a lot of film cameras, such as Mamiya, Hasselblad 2000FCW, Canon and Nikon 35mm film cameras. I would say i am a fairly decent photographer with, maybe, a bigger passion and lust than talent. :) Two years ago soon my son was born, and I just didn't bring the big cameras with me any longer, and I missed capturing those moments. I stopped all professional photography to make time for family and my day job. I sold all my other cameras, DSLRs and film alike to buy a new, smaller, more handy one. That I actually would bring with me everywhere and take photos. I never bought one, and now I miss I so much. So I started the hunt for the best camera for ME. I have been googling, foruming all across, and I just don't know how to drill it down any further and decide on the actual camera to buy. One thing I do know is that it is going to be a Leica. I just love Leicas philosophy, the picture quality, the "to the roots" thing, and I have decided once and for all that now is the time for me to finally own a Leica. I also know that I am on a budget. Coming in at a total of 2000 USD would be ideal - but if course, Leica is not cheap and there are many factors here. So anywhere between 1000-3000 USD is something I look at. For that money you could buy either a Leica CL kit brand new, Leica TL2 brand new, a used Leica Q, used Leica M9. I am not a rangefinder guy really, but I really like the concept. However, I will use the camera for many different scenarios such as travel photo, family photo, art works that I do, and just general hobby/art photography. I don't do any studio work any longer, so that I don't need, I don't do street photography in that sense, and I don't to long tele situation photography like concerts or sports. So basically, I do everyday photography and would like my photos to be nice to have, maybe frame them, and if I find time again start taking art work photos again. But let's focus on travel, everyday life typ photo. Now - what do you guys think? Where should I place my bets? I guess many of you have tried many of the cameras - which one do you believe I will be happier with? Thank you so much! I appreciate all and any input!
  8. Hi everyone! Nice to finally make the decision to join this community. I made the switch to Leica from Nikon last year when I purchased the CL with a 23mm Summicron f2. I absolutely love the camera and the setup for the type of photography I do. at the moment, my current setup is the CL with a f/1.4 Super Takuma 50mm (thorium glass model).
  9. I wanted to see how well (or poorly) my TL2 could be coaxed into producing infrared or near-infrared photographs. So I started this informational topic to pass along some of what I found out. I used infrared film only very occasionally during my predominantly film days, but there were times when it was just the ticket. One of my favorite B&W films was and still is Ilford's near-infrared SFX-200 processed in PMK Pyro, both for normal and occasionally for near-infrared photos (but that's another story). It turns out that the TL2's sensor collects an impressive amount of infrared light. (Simple test: try viewing the business end of an IR TV remote through the camera. If you can see the IR diode--I assume it's a diode--light up when pressed, then you've got something to work with.) The TL2 shows the diode very well. So did the X2, but the X2 didn't fare nearly so well once I tried using it with IR filters. The exposure times were way too long. Getting the TL2 converted to Infrared is an option, and one that will preserve exposure times we are more used to. Filters, as you all know, slow exposure times down. But if you only use IR occasionally, as I do, IR conversion of the camera isn't a desirable option. So I experimented with filters, and the results are as follows: I used three filters on the TL2 in various types of scenes. The three filters were--in order of ascending visible light filtration--first, the B+W 092 (which Schneider says "...blocks visible light up to 650 nm, and at just below 700 nm it allows 50% to pass through .... From from 730nm to 2,000 nm the transmittance is very high at over 90%"). The second (perhaps the Goldilocks filter) was the HOYA R72 Infrared, which is designed to pass 95% of the light between 760nm and 860nm. The third, and darkest, filter was the B+W 093 which . . . well, I'll let them tell it: "blocks the entire visible light spectrum. It therefore appears black and in contrast to the B+W 092 infrared filter 695, it enables shots in pure infrared without the visible red. The transmittance does not exceed 1% until 800nm, but increases to 88% at 900nm." I'll put results in subsequent posts.
  10. With the launch of the TL2 and the CL this year, Leica has boldly put its weight behind its APSC systems. The cameras look and feel great, though they would undoubtedly benefit from a richer selection of fast lenses to partner with. Personally, I see the TL / CL cameras filling an important void for M shooters. With rangefinders, lengths between 24-50mm tend to hit the sweet spot, and while the fast telephoto lenses render beautifully, manual focusing a 90mm Summicron on a rangefinder for candid street or action is borderline masochistic. In this respect, it would be great to see TL Summicron or Summarit prime equivalents of either the 75, 90, or 135 focal lengths, all with fast auto focus. I know we have the 55mm - 135mm zoom, but F 4.5 is not workable in low light, and the 60mm F2.8 Macro, while gorgeous, is a little too slow to auto focus. I would love to know what other people want to see on the TL lens roadmap. Let us build a little public pressure to ensure that these smart systems get the lenses they deserve.
  11. Hello. I have been using a X Vario for the past four years, and have enjoyed using it. But I am increasingly frustrated with its slow autofocus, esp in low light. Also its metering/whitebalance on landscapes is often "off" - the skies often look Cyan rather than deep blue. Of course when the metering is right, the results are superb. Unfortunately when travelling there is often no time to try different exposure settings. I have tried auto-bracketing exposures but that did not prove satisfactory. Note that my VX is not a faulty camera, another XV I tried had similar issues. In view of the above, I am thinking of switching to a TL2 with 18-56 zoom. My questions: 1) Is the TL2 autofocus significantly better than the XV?

2) Are the auto-exposures on the TL2 more accurate? Does is also occasionally suffer from the Cyan sky syndrome? 3) Is the 18-56 zoom comparable in quality to the XV lens, and does it have that fabled "Leica glow" like the VX lens has? 4) Is the 18-56 zoom prone to flare? I have seen a few photos from this lens exhibiting flare, or a washed out background, hence am asking. 5) I have read the the out-of-camera jpegs form the TL2 at standard setting are "flat" or bland. Is this true? I normally use DNG, but on the XV, when it does get the exposure right, the jpegs are so good that it is difficult to get better results from DNG. I would be most grateful for your thoughts. Thanks in advance.
  12. I used the "search" function and couldn't find any specifically relevant posts or threads on this topic, but how good/intuitive is the TL2 when shooting in Manual mode, both ergonomics and metric data/feedback (light meter, guidance, etc)? I'm considering the TL2 both for its overall design/interface and image quality, but also because it seems it's well suited to shooting completely in Manual mode (assigning the two top-right, back dials to Aperture and Shutter speed). I've held/tried several other competing cameras that would otherwise seem ideal for manual shooting (dedicated dials), but have been disappointed with either the ergonomics, input/interface (light meter), or both. How do you guys feel the TL2 performs in this regard? Thanks.
  13. I've been considering purchasing a TL2 with the L 18-56 zoom lens. Does this lens (or any Leica lens) have motorized zoom built in to more readily accommodate video/4K? The other camera I have been considering is the Sony A6500, which does include this feature. My apology, but I can't seem to definitively confirm anywhere online. Thanks.
  14. I am thinking of buying a TL/TL2 camera. Currently there is a new one Leica TL titan for 999EUR (1200 USD) at Leica Store Berlin. And I have a good opportunity to buy fairly new Leica TL2 for 1500 EUR (1850 USD). Does it make sense to save money rather then go for TL2 ? I will be using TL 23/2 cron. And for the second lens I am considering using TL 35/1.4 or 60/2,8. I love the idea of a fairly wide lens such as TL 11-23/3,5-4,5 but I am not quite sure whether aperture is sufficient, if there is not enough light available. thanks for your comments and suggestions Radim
  15. Hi all, I"m considering buying a Leica TL2 which I want to use to take photos in the same way that I do with my IPhone for street photography. That is, touch screen focus only and most of the time I use burst mode to be able to nail the shot in terms of people moving into the scene. Questions: 1. Is the quality of the LCD on the TL2 comparable to a smartphone (I'm using an Iphone 7 plus currently)? 2. Does the TL2 have a 'continuous shooting' option or only single shot? I couldn't find this in the specs. 3. Can you program the camera to choose the focus point and take the shot simultaneously by a single tap on the screen? Or do you have to tap on screen to choose focus point and then press shutter button? 4. Is the AF fast enough for street photography? 5. I would be buying this camera with the new pancake 18mm lens. Would I be able to get maximum depth of field with this combo, as with a smartphone? That is, I want everything to be completely and equally in focus from foreground to background. I do not want shallow depth of field. I have looked at other cameras (Sony, Fuji etc) but the larger LCD screen is the main attraction with this camera so that it is similar to an iphone experience but better image quality. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance. Parasko
  16. Any news about this camera? It is clear that it is going to appear sooner or later, but WHEN and HOW will it be? If you look at the current product range, there is one or more camera every 1.000 Euros, with a lack at around 3.000€: C and V-Lux: 1.000 Euros TL2: 2.000 Euros + lens small SL (or TL w/EVF): 3.000 + lens Q: +4.000 Euro SL: + 5.000 + lens M: + 6.000 + lens S: etc. etc.... And the TL lens range has a great potential to be used on more then one body only. I believe it will be more a "small" SL rather then a TL with EVF, for which is hard to ask for 3.000 Euro... Better a pro look, with the bulky but acceptable EVF, watertight, heavy, similar to SL but smaller... What do you think? any news?
