Dear Friends: In the late 80's (when I was a kid) my father taught me how to use the Leica R4. I use the M-system these days but for last few weeks I have been wanting to make a comeback to film photography. I recently bought a used R4 with Summicron-R 50 mm lens. The lens looks great (I tested on Leica M10 with adapter). However, when I got the negatives developed and scanned, something strange showed up in the photographs. I am attaching a few examples. Can someone with an experienced eye help me figure out what is going on so that I can fix this problem! Your help is appreciated.

Hello! This is my first post to this forum and what better way to start it off but with asking for thoughts about a M3 with a 50/2 Dual Range Summicron I have the opportunity to buy locally. I currently have an M6 with a Zeiss 35mm 2.8 that I love, but I have been eyeing an M3 for quite a while. I only got a brief look at it the other day and was able to handle it for about a minute or two before I had to go. The viewfinder seems bright with a little dust and it seems to focus properly ( non of this is 100% since I was only able to spend a little time with it). I cant really remember what shape the metal of the body was in but I do know that the the leatherette will need replaced.I also did not have a chance to inspect internals or shutter speeds. The lens seems good and clear as well, no goggles though. It is a single stroke late model. I will be going back by today to pick up some film and plan to take a better look at it and hopefully take some pictures. The asking price for both together is $600.00, Is this something that I should not pass up? I will post pictures once I take a second look at it. Thanks!

I have just posted a new blog post at https://gerrywalden.wordpress.com/2016/09/05/just-one-roll-of-film/ which sabot a roll of film I shot in 2003 using a Leica M6 and (I think) a Summicron f2. It features 9 images in mono of a Mela in Southampton. Please take a look. Gerry

Some time ago I started a blog (www.mbphotox.wordpress.com) about adapted 50mm lenses on my Canon DSLR. A Leica 50 was on my wishlist for half a year and when I finally went out to buy one, I came home with an Elmarit-R 135mm f/2.8 because the Cron had been picked up by another guy right before I arrived at the store. A few months later, I found a great offer online and bought an Elmarit-R 28mm and finally also the Summicron-R 50mm I had been looking for. Having three lenses, I figured "why not get back into shooting film?", and so I started looking for a suitable Leica R body. The SL2 was not an option since all my lenses are R-only, and the R6 was simply too damn expensive. R3 to R5 it was.. I stumbled upon this expensive offer that had been online for weeks, by a guy who wanted to sell his pristine Summicron-R 90mm together with a near-mint Leica R5... I ended up talking him down by 20% and bought the package Loaded a roll of Superia 200 last night and am looking forward to the results. Here are some pics (more can be found on the blog) The baseplate shows slight signs of wear, the brass shines through at some areas, but other than that it's perfect. My lenses, without the 90mm, I've still got to take pictures of that one. But it only arrived 2 days ago.

I am a bit lost with what i have read about the radioactive summis. What is the deal with them? Are they more trouble than they are worth because of the browning? How about resale? Do people avoid them?

Hi, I'm a newbie (to Leicas and this forum) from Scotland. In the last 6 months I've traded-in all my Canon DSLR gear for a M7 and 50mm Summicron, and just last week I've picked up a M3. Apart from being a bit dirty inside, which I wasn't expecting seeing as I'd bought it from an authorised Leica dealer, it is in great condition with no obvious issues with patch alignment, shutter speeds etc. I put my Summicron on it today and noticed that the patches don't move through the full range of lens focusing distances; the infinity end seems ok but at the close focusing end the patches won't focus any closer than approx 3 or 4 feet i.e. as I move the focus ring past 4 feet towards the closest setting the patches stop moving. On my M7 the patches cover the full focusing range of the lens. As I said I'm a newbie to Leica and rangefinder cameras in general so just wanted to ask am I missing something obvious here or do I have an issue? Thanks in advance if anyone can help. Cheers, Liam.

Hallo.

Hey guys, I recently acquired a cron and decided to do some test shots with it. Was checking if there was any problems with regards to front or back focus but saw that wide open it wasnt that sharp with regards to the center object that I focused on. I attached a photo of the test I did + a cropped photo of the battery I focused on but was not sharp or there was blurriness on the letters. The shot though was done in my dining table with artificial light, f2 ISO100, 2 sec timer to avoid camera shake cause I dont have a tripod at the moment. I'll definitely shoot during the day when the sun is up to see if theres a difference but just wanted post this and hear your thoughts about this. Maybe the lens needs a calibration or something of the type. Kinda new to Leica lenses as this is my first M lens. Thank you

Hello all, I just want to point out a fraudulent ebay scam involving my ad, here, in the "Buy & Sell" section: to my utter disgust I've just found today a semi-complete duplication of my ad on ebay (Item nr: 152831268092) by seller "loganlemsley58". He copied all the pictures and a semi-identical description of my item that I listed here five days ago. I've reported the scam to ebay and hope they'll take it out. It really is astonishing how crude these people operate. Kind regards, Horea

Hi folks, I was in the Leica store to check out the newly released SL Summicron 90 + 75 mm lenses; they are quite nice and handling is superb. I was asking the sales rep about the dimensions of the later to be released 50 and 35 mm lenses and he answered that they would basically share the same dimensions in order to have a "uniform user experience". For me, this is a little bit of a bummer, as I think that size does matter, also on a pro system. How come, that a 50 mm and 35 mm f2 are 10 x 7 cm large? I would much appreciate, if the lenses would be smaller (shorter), this would make the SL much more usable as a travel and street camera. Ideally, they could share the same 67 mm filter threat, but be much shorter, say 5 cm. What do others think?

Hallo.
