My M8 has some serious trouble with damaged shutter blades/curtains. I sent the camera the next day, after the problem happened, to Solms in Germany. Leica sent my a cost estimate to repair the shutter and to upgrade the mask carrier (my first language is Dutch and I don't know what mask carrier means) will cost € 987,00. Also the estimate mentioned that the cost could be higher because the repair people could not test the sensor due to the defective shutter. I would like to know if there are other M8 owners on this forum who have experienced the same trouble with damaged shutter curtains, did the reparation cost around € 1000,00 and what mask carrier means. Thank you for your help.

I am new on the forum, but I was following it for several months. I finally purchased a beautiful Leica M9 but only one week later it stopped working for no particular reason. I was using it with no trouble, and the next day it didn't take pictures, only black images and it wasn't because the cap of the lens was on! So I went to the store where I bought it and try different cards, batteries, reinstall the last firmware, etc nothing worked, so I went to the dealer and my camera was mailed to Solms, that was one week ago. I assume the problem could be where the card meets the camera, so the capture is not transmitted into the card or could be the sensor itself but I don't know how a sensor could stop working like that, everything else on the camera was fine (shutter, rangefinder, screen, menus etc). What is your experience with leica service? they told me even if urgent, I should not expect to receive it until February, and I live in Spain so no overseas shipments. When you mailed your cameras to Solms did you receive any email about the repair status? is possible to receive any update or should I just wait until the dealer receive it back? I wouldn't expect this to happen only after one week of use, usually I would be pissed off for the situation but to be honest I enjoyed the camera that much those few days that I just want to have it back ASAP. Today I received my thumps up and I have no camera for it

After reading several threads about problems with the new M9, I thought to ask. Do you have flawless copy of M9, which didn't go through Solms service with a long wait?

Dead Pixels - Green/Red Line Problem with M8.2

Hello, this is my first post - so here it goes. I've got an M8.2 and just received it back from Solms after one month of repair for the dead-pixel problem. It used to have a nasty red-line at high ISOs, but I had detected it all the way down to ISO 160. I've just now done some tests shots and see the problem is now a green line - mostly at high ISOs only. Of course, I have all the nice documentation from Solms saying "fixed and tested". The camera was set to JPG when the problem has only shown up in DNG. Methodical they are not. So far, I've had some incredibly wonderful photos from Vietnam, Thailand, and Cambodia ruined by the red-line problem and am not in any way excited to find out how the green-line problem can ruin photos. Basically, I'm incredibly annoyed with Solms. Any advice for what to do? Any similar experiences with solutions? I purchased this direct from Leica Camera, so no dealers can help...
