    The Opera Singer

When I was in Beijing in 1998 one of the things which struck me most was the friendliness of the people, and their openness – and remember this was 18 years ago, long before today’s leaders were in place. I felt very able to walk around the streets and photograph with no problem at all, and was often invited to sit and talk to people (especially older people) who seemed desperate to practice English with me. On one such occasion I sat with a group of elderly men playing traditional instruments and singing Chinese opera just for the fun of it in one of Beijing’s many parks. This gentleman had a particularly strong voice, and talked to me for some time in broken English about the state of the world, which is always a favourite topic of older men. This image was taken on my trusty Leica, and scanned from a colour transparency. Taken on a Leica M6 and scanned from transparency. Gerry

    Italia

This image was taken in a small bar in the El Raval district of Barcelona using the Leica M9 and Zeiss 50mm Sonnar f1.5 lens @ 1600iso, and then post-processed in LR CC 2015.3 with some difficulty because of the low light levels, and the window to the extreme left which threw the exposure out a bit (this is a cropped image). This has turned out to be one of my favourite images from the trip. Gerry
  3. This was taken on Les Rambles in Barcelona using the M9 and a Zeiss 50mm Sonnar f1.5 les, and then processed in LR CC 2015.3 I hope you like it! Gerry

    The Book Lover

Taken in the El Raval district of Barcelona with the Leica M9 and Zeiss 50mm Sonnar f1.5 Gerry
  5. I took this on a trip to Beijing in 1998 using my M6, and I have just scanned it to give it a new life. I am sorry but I have no details stored with the original, but can say that it was taken on Fuji RDP 100iso film. I hope you like it! Gerry
  6. Whilst waiting to get my hair cut I decided to take a few photos, mainly to use up a roll of film. The barber and his customer kindly gave permission. Taken with Leica M7 and 24mm Elmarit f2.5 using Ilford Delta 400, scanned and post-processed in Lightroom. Gerry
  7. I titled this 'Was that you?"
  8. The following three images are from a film I shot in 2002 using the Leica M6 and 50mm Summicron (I think!) at a street festival in Emsworth, England. I hope you like at least one of them! Gerry

  10. He was actually quite agreeable to have me take his photo. He told me he was waiting for his girlfriend to finish work at the restaurant which was right there.

Love is never letting go (taken in a cafe in Paris, France using an M6 and T400CN)
  12. Taken in Rouen, France using the M9 and Zeiss 50mm Sonnar f1.5
  13. This was taken in 2002 using an M6 and Kodak 400CN. I have recently scanned it and processed in LR and Dfine. I have no idea what the lens settings were but the lens was probably my Summicron 50mm f2. Gerry
  14. Farah near Granite Falls, Washington S (006) with 70mm Summarit
  15. Taken in the market at Place du Vieux Marché, Rouen, France using the M9 and Zeiss 50mm Sonnar f1.5

    A quiet moment

I took this on a trip to Barcelona in November 2015, but I have just worked on it to get a look I am happy with so that I could submit it to a National Geographic project entitled 'Quiet Moment'. I used a Leica M9 with 35mm Leica Summarit f2.5 lens and shot at 400iso. Gerry
