Three Asian tourists sample the delights of one of the many stalls selling a variety of freshly cooked food within the main market which can be found just off La Rambla in Barcelona. The Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria, often simply referred to as La Boqueria, dates back to 1217, although the preset structure dates to 1853. Now firmly on the international tourist trail, the market is still popular with locals and visitors alike. Leica M9 and Zeiss 50mm Sonnar f1.5. 1/30 - f4 - 800iso. Gerry

I decided to try out shooting .dng and b&w .jpeg fine on the M9, and this is the result. Post processing was done in a combination of Lightroom and SilverEfex Pro2. All in all I am pretty happy with the result. Caption: An Asian woman tries to persuade a disabbled woman to take a book about meditation, and then asks for payment for it. Back in 1998 I went on a package tour to Beijing with my wife, but the images have lain pretty dormant in my filing cabinet since. I am now going through some of my older work and scanning it, and I was particularly pleased with this one which was shot on Fuji Provia using an M6 and Summicron-M f2. The exact details have been lost in the annal of time, but I think it was taken in the Forbidden City and shows a man who has brought his caged crickets out to enjoy the winter sunshine. I remember reading that Marc Ribaud )Magnum) had gone to China to photograph the Tiananmen Square 'happenings' in 1989 but had been so fascinated by people in the cafes with crickets he missed the main event. This then I guess is a sort of tribute to him.

Celebrating the first Pride Parade in Southampton for 15 years, this transgender person is happy to be photographed. Although the first Gay pride rally was held in London in 1972 many smaller cities in the United Kingdom have been slow in celebrating LGBT diversity, but with a large student population Southampton has finally caught up with modern thinking at a colourful fun-filled event. I was on the lookout also for photos for the National geographic assignment about hair, and felt this fitted the bill. Taken using an M9 with 35mm Summitar f2.5. Gerry

This image was taken in a small bar in the El Raval district of Barcelona using the Leica M9 and Zeiss 50mm Sonnar f1.5 lens @ 1600iso, and then post-processed in LR CC 2015.3 with some difficulty because of the low light levels, and the window to the extreme left which threw the exposure out a bit (this is a cropped image). This has turned out to be one of my favourite images from the trip. Gerry

This is from my trip to the US in 2001 and was taken on the Ellis Island Ferry using the Leica M6 and TX400CN. I thought long and hard about posting this image, and finally came to the conclusion that less able-bodied people are a part of our society and hopefully this image shows a caring relationship and inclusion in the world. When I was in Beijing in 1998 one of the things which struck me most was the friendliness of the people, and their openness – and remember this was 18 years ago, long before today’s leaders were in place. I felt very able to walk around the streets and photograph with no problem at all, and was often invited to sit and talk to people (especially older people) who seemed desperate to practice English with me. On one such occasion I sat with a group of elderly men playing traditional instruments and singing Chinese opera just for the fun of it in one of Beijing’s many parks. This gentleman had a particularly strong voice, and talked to me for some time in broken English about the state of the world, which is always a favourite topic of older men. This image was taken on my trusty Leica, and scanned from a colour transparency. Taken on a Leica M6 and scanned from transparency. Gerry

I took this on a trip to Beijing in 1998 using my M6, and I have just scanned it to give it a new life. I am sorry but I have no details stored with the original, but can say that it was taken on Fuji RDP 100iso film. I hope you like it! Gerry

This was taken in 2002 using an M6 and Kodak 400CN. I have recently scanned it and processed in LR and Dfine. I have no idea what the lens settings were but the lens was probably my Summicron 50mm f2. Gerry
