  1. Heading to Italy soon and very tempted to take the Noctilux 0.95. We'll be walking lots each day and it would either be mounted on the M240 or in a shoulder bag. I have lighter lenses but would love to utilize this lens' unique resolving character. Curious to know if others have traveled with this breast.
  2. I updated my 50mm APO article with a section about purple fringing and how to remove it in Lightroom from Noctilux and other lenses. Enjoy! "What is Purple Fringing in Leica lenses?"
  3. With the right accessories you can even pimp your Sony Nex-5R
  4. Taken recently in Rome...Fee Fee. M8 Nocti, 5.7 Iso1250 from inside the Pantheon. The light is truly amazing inside, but often very contrasty. I tried to get a softer look. Thanks for looking.
  5. I was wandering on the street in Tokyo without any purpose. I walked pass this midnight diner (居酒屋) and was attracted by the way the Japanese interact with others. The person in the black suit was paying his bill and leaving the restaurant. Both side bowed a few times as they exchanged dialogue. This quite interested me and I snapped this shot. I think it documented some of the feeling of Japanese's bowing culture. DSC07426_s by Terence Yam, on Flickr (50mm Noctilux on Sony A7) Hope you like it. Best, Terence from Hong Kong
  6. Dear friends, I just came back from the lake area near Fuji Mountain in Tokyo. It was a great trip, although the weather was kind of bad.... it is simply too foggy to take a perfect shot of the Fuji Mountain. I woke up at 4:30 in the morning and tried to call for a taxi to the shooting location I have in mind. However.....no taxi....at all! As stubborn as I am, I decided to walk for 1.5 hours to the location for the sunrise shot. As I was walking towards to the destination, I have a bad feeling since I can see NOTHING over the lake. The Fuji mountain disappeared. After I arrived, I sat there waiting for the sun to rise. However, there came the sun, and I took my first shot.... here it is... "Ladies and gentlemen, Fuji Mountain Sun Rise!" DSC06961_s by Terence Yam, on Flickr I was disappointed but at the same time.... my stubbornness overpowered my brain again. I decided to sit there and wait for the perfect moment. It was so cold, and luckily I brought with me a bottle of hot coffee.... People started to come in, including some folks who decided to do canoeing on a foggy day. With nothing to do, I took some pictures of them. DSC06983_s by Terence Yam, on Flickr DSC07008_s by Terence Yam, on Flickr I have waited for more than three hours..... finally, my persistence paid back... the fog started to go away, and I was able to see the coast on my right-hand side. DSC07026_s by Terence Yam, on Flickr Ladies and gentlemen, I am happy to share with you this picture that I took under a big tree full of red leaves after three hours of wait! Hope you will enjoy it. 8. The following review of the Canon 50mm f/1.0 lens brands it as "wholly impractical" which is a label I would expect the reviewer to also hang on any of the Leica Noctilux M lenses; but is this an accurate assessment of the 50mm f/1.0 lens as a whole - regardless of who makes it? I suppose that depends on how one defines the term "wholly impractical." If that definition hinges on price, there are a lot of lenses and cameras out there that the reviewer would also brand as "wholly impractical." A 50/1.0 lens is capable of more than shooting at maximum aperture. A lens that offers f/1.0 or f/0.95 is a specialized lens; it offers the image maker choices that are not available with slower 50 mm lenses. Yes, any 50/1.0 (or 0.95) lens is big, heavy and costly; that's a given. But specialized is not tantamount to impractical IMHO. Thoughts?
  9. Today I took the SL for a stroll together with the Noctilux. For the first time it was easy to focus this lens at f/0,95! It will be interesting to see what rangefinder developments the coming M will have that will make it competitive for decades to come. Listen to Stefan Daniel interviewed by Andreas Jorgensen on this forum Eric
  10. From my latest blog - http://rangefinderchronicles.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/dreamy-rome.html Some street shots taken with the Leica M (T240) and Noctilux f1, most wide, or almost wide, open. Please take a look at my e-book too, Rome Cafe: http://www.blurb.co.uk/ebooks/548254-rome-cafe Nick
  11. Hello Everyone, I have a basic question directed at current and former 50mm Noctilux F0.95 owners who had previously owned the earlier F1.0 model: Do you find the 0.95 version of this lens to be better or more usable? I've owned the F1.0 model for some years and tend to use it perhaps 8-10 times annually. You all know it's a quircky beast by nature. Flaring and blue-fringing around any bright areas in a wide-open frame can be a challenge. So have you seen any differences in the F0.95 version along these or other lines? Thank You.
  12. Caffe Rosati in Rome with Leica M and 50mm Noctilux From my blog: http://kaffe-city.blogspot.it/2015/08/caffe-rosati-rome.html And new book on Blurb - please take a look: http://www.blurb.co.uk/b/6372180-rome-cafe Nick
  13. I just released my next page in the Leica M 246 article series "Old School is the New School" I've been using the Monochrom for quite a bit in Munich, Berlin, Rome and Paris. This is the first in a series of articles on the M246 Enjoy!
