  1. Shot film in the 80s and 90s (Olympus and Nikon) then digital only for past 20 years (including SL 601 since it came out) Loaded my Nikon F5 last year and loved shooting film again. Now considering an M. Have read and watched all I can, so understand the differences between the 3 currently available film M cameras but still undecided. Don’t mind black or chrome (and not chasing a BP finish). Have always had a light meter in my camera (apart from shooting my Dad’s old Ilford as a kid) but am attracted to the simplicity of the M-A. Areas I could use advice on include the following please: - quality control issues, not sure if M6 scratching film issue has gone away. - viewfinder, which is best? (My eyesight is ok but am in mid 50s). - reliability over the long term. Anyone else been in my situation? How did you choose? Thanks for your help everyone.
  2. love their videos, they release the videos a week or so before the actual sale, which in this case in in the 1st week of January 24 https://www.kitamuracamera.jp/ja/event/onlinesale_2023_1226
  3. There are currently five analog M bodies in regular production: MP black paint, MP silver, M-A black, M-A silver, and M6 reissue. Which is your favourite? Or, rather, if you had to delete one from the lineup, which model would it be? I’ve handled and used all of them except the black M-A. I think the black paint MP is the most stunning. That said, I believe the M6 reissue holds its own against the MP and M-A and is quickly becoming my go-to analog camera.
  5. When I reloaded my mp today, putting rewind switch to r and rewinding whole film then taking the bottom plate off, the camera makes weird noise like film rewinding at once really quickly. After reloading with a new film, the rewind switch was set to normal shooting mode again. What was the problem? Im Korean, so please understand me if I named some parts wrong
  6. Alphagvrd has a new selection of 3M vinyl adhesive camera skins for the M11, MP, Q2 and SL2. These skins will dress up your camera and provide a level of abrasion protection. The installation video on Alphagvrd's website makes the process look fairly easy - have a look: https://leicarumors.com/2022/09/28/new-leica-mp-camera-skins-now-available-coupon-code-included.aspx/
  7. Hi Leica lovers, I have a silver MP (purchased in Korea in September 2022, serial starts with 5613xxx). In November, I came to notice that lower line of 50mm frame vanished when attached 50mm summicron for the first time. I had M3 and was using MP with 35mm lens only till that time. When I look into viewfinder in the very center, it is fine. However, with slight downward movement of eyes, the lower line of 50mm frame vanishes - with upward move it remains clearly. 28mm and 35mm frames are clearly visible with same position of eyes. I took it to local Leica seller (Bando, authorized seller in Korea) to check and repair. They replied that it was not a flaw, saying that they communicated to Leica Headquarter in Germany and got the same reply - it is a normal viewfinder status. I don't know how exactly they communicated to Germany. I really can't accept the response as it really vanishes and giving me a hard time to re-position eyes to get exact frame. IMHO, the internal reflection angle from the light in-take window to viewfinder is failing to brighten the lower frame line for 50mm. MP users, please share your experience with 50mm frame line. And will there be a kind of Q&A channel(English) to communicate to Leica service in Germany? Thank you in advance. ---------------------------------------- Here are some pictures that I took with my smart phone camera. I've tested with 50mm summicron, w/o lens, and even holding up-side down - always the same line vanishes. Note that I put camera facing floor to eliminate any possible light interference. A. With 50mm summicron.Note that upper line remains clear edge to edge compared to lower line. B. Without lens. 28mm lines are very clear with all movement C. With 35mm lens. All clear edge to edge.
  8. Disclaimer: I'm starting a new topic regarding the issues found in my newly purchased Leica MP, the purpose of this is to share any ideas that could lead to a solution, this is not a rant about Leica lack of QC which we all know is becoming an issue. After receiving my camera I run a roll of Kodak TriX 400, after developing the film I found a trace of scratches, I did several test with other films which I didn't develop (in case the scratches were being caused by my development process): Bergger Pancro 400, Ilford HP5+. They all show the same type of scratches. This is an undeveloped roll, https://ibb.co/RbxynrM https://ibb.co/8xkfs17 I found several threads with people claim the source of this issues was the pressure plate so I checked mine in order the find anything that could be the reason, the screws in the plate don't match the position of the marks in the film and the surface of the plate in my camera feels smooth and flat, I wondered if maybe the reason could be the bridge that has the connection for the light meter but after more inspection it was obvious that the plate keeps the very flat and it does not touch that area. I did another test in which I rub some film on the surface of the plate, to my surprise the film was very scratched, I did the same against the plate in my 1958 M2 and it didn't do a single one. I also did a couple of prints to verify the scratches appear and unfortunately the scratches are visible even on a middle size print. This is the print, the scratches appear in the top and the bottom https://ibb.co/VpKsdfb
  9. A polarizing question, but a fair one. If one wanted to replace the screw above the lens (on, say, M-P or M10R black paint) with the red (or black) dot logo sticker, is the hole as big as the original logo sticker? Is the screw flat so one could just put the sticker over it? I found no topic of this sort but if it has been answered please do link to the thread. Thank you for your civilized answers, please no dumb discussions of "why would anyone want to do that?" kind, it is an academic question.
  10. Over the years I have been fortunate to be able to work and save some extra money to pursue my serious hobby of photography. During this time I've acquired an M2, M4 Black Chrome, M4-P and M6 TTL. All bodies are in excellent condition and used regularly on rotation. But now .....I'm lusting after an MP Black Paint since I prefer to have a meter - - It's is not a logical thought process. Why get an MP when I already have the combined functions of an MP in all my current bodies? .......and If I decide to get it I will have to sell a few bodies to fund it fully. So at the end would it be worth it going with an MP and sacrificing the older bodies for it? I know this is such an objective question - and everyone's circumstances are different and I might be going thru an episode of "GAS" but looking for opinions to keep me out of it or going thru with getting an MP .
  11. Hi, i need some advice Is it worth to get M6 TTL Millenium, Dragon 2000 or MP Black paint? Problem is Dragon has 0.85 mag, i wear glasses also i heard that mp has better vf, not much flaring Second, the price of those m6 limited are close to new MP Black paint Regards Mike
  12. Hello there. I am a happy owner of a Leica MP. I bought it as my first Leica couple of days ago after saving up for a considerable amount of time. Unfortunately I have a problem with my camera and after searching in internet I found out that nobody had a problem like mine. So I wanted to ask this minor thing that has been itching me for the last 2 days to the knowledgable people of this forum: My question is: Is it normal to have a 3mm long scratch in the inside of the baseplate, close to the little wheel? I noticed that after opening up the camera there is a small protrusion which sticks out of the camera in the film take up spool side. I suspect that it made the scratch to the inside of the baseplate as the tip of the protrusion is matching with the scratch itself. I don't remember if it was there or not when I opened camera for the first time. When I had my camera for the first time I accidentally closed the baseplate without the backdoor of the camera sitting perfectly. So when I locked the baseplate up the backdoor was literally open. I ofcource immediately saw my mistake and closed the camera correctly. Is there a possibility of I caused that scratch? I am afraid that I was so excited to have my Leica that I caused the scratch by accident. If you enlighten me in this subject I would be grateful. Thanks in advance...
  13. From 35MMC comes a short review of the MP, which I wanted to enjoy but was left with a bad taste in my mouth due to the reviewer's repeated negativity about Leica. For a guy who claims to love his M cameras, he does a lot of bitching about the company who makes it possible for all of us to use and enjoy them; makes no sense to me, but there's a lot of nonsense floating about these days.

Viele Grüße A.
  16. It sure would be nice if Leica would get its head out of its collective chocolate wizway. I long for the time when Leica had the M and the SL, two cameras. I would be satisfied with the M and the S, but they have stagnated on the S and keep adding new cameras. What are they thinking!!!! Hell, Panasonic (isn't this the company that Leica collaborated with during the early auto-focus time and motorization of the SL) just released a 35mm model with 42.4MP. Why does Leica think that they know better than what the consumer wants/needs. Granted as the MP load gets larger so does the resulting picture pixels needing a faster computer, larger memory, bigger harddrives and resulting better software, but this is an inherit result of going digital. And they continue producing new cameras and lenses, but leave the S with a minor telephoto of 180mm touting about the excellence of their lenses, but relying on other manufacturers to produce longer lenses for them and they produce the sometimes inferior adapters to be able to use them. When I was on safari in Africa using my SL/MOT and my R4 I used my 400mm F6.8 Telyt almost exclusively on my cameras. There were only a couple of times I changed and used my 180mm f/2.8. Personally, I think that they at least owe the consumers a 400mm, which would be about a 300mm on a 35mm camera and maybe a 560mm giving S owners a chance of 400 equivalent for 35mm for their S systems. Granted, there probably would not be a lot of people lining up to buy them, but they would be there if wanted/needed. Cotton pick, if they could waste time and resources to make that long lens for the Arab sheikh, why can’t they find time for the rest of us. OK, I have vented have a great day. tllabron
  17. I recently purchased a used film MP. I would interested to find out when it was made but I can't trace the serial number on the one or two list I have tracked down on the net. The serial number is 3469XXX if anyone can help. Many thanks.
  18. the meter wheel is loose on my MP. after I discovered it I taped it to the proper position so I get a proper light reading. Is there anyway I can repair this without sending it to Leica? Anyway to tighten it?

  21. Hi L-forum team, This week I bought the new M-P and the seller offered me the Visioflex EVF2 as an extra gadget. But I did not buy it as I was unsure if I would use it. This is what I read at the Leica homepage: "This electronic viewfinder is available as an optional accessory for the Leica M. With a resolution of 1.4 megapixels and 90° swivel action for capturing images from unusual angles, it displays all significant exposure parameters. Thus it allows precise control of composition particularly in very bright light. Efficient focusing with Leica R-Lenses adapted to the Leica M is also possible." The 90 degree swivel action is something I can image I will use once a month but is this it. I do not think I will buy any R-lenses. I know some of you will now say: "but do not buy it then". But like with the iPad when it came people wondered why it is being released as it is not needed and look what it became. There I am thinking maybe I have a need but I do not know of it yet! How do you use your Visioflex? Do you find it useful? NOTE! I have a 35 & 50 Summilux with the M-P and shooting mostly street photos, portraits and occasionally landscapes. 23. Leica MP w/50mm Summicron on Ilford FP 4+ in HC 110 H for 7.75mins at 20 C A woman shooting heroin on the sidewalk in Pioneer Square, Seattle. This is one of those shots that I am always torn as to shoot or walk on by. Street photography is new to me, really just began when I moved to Seattle and worked in a downtown office. I walk at lunch time to get out in the world away from A/C and artificial light. In three years this is one of the most depressing things I've come across, a woman shooting heroin in the middle of the day in public.
