Was tun? Lohnt sich das bei einer M8? Wäre über Eure Tips und Meinungen dankbar. Herzlichen, Peter
  4. ... oder: Plätzchen backen mit der Oma. Leica M8 mit Summicron-M 2/50 (IV) (Mensch, ist diese Linse toll!)
  5. I have a question. I bought Voitlanger 40 mm f / 1.4 to filter Leica E43 UV / IR. Do you recommend to enable the Leica M8 menu function "on + uv / ir" or better left to the "off"? Voitlanger of course, is not encoded. I have the impression that the pictures from the "off" are more greenish than with "a + uv / ir." How do you have at home? Does it also affect the sharpness of jpg files is?
Aber, lange, lange, her.

Schau´n mer mal. VG Christof

  14. There are two negative pins and one positive on the Leica M8 & M9 charger. I put a meter on them and got readings I cannot understand - yet. They vacillate wildly within different voltage ranges. I've yet to apply the meter to a charged battery because the contacts are buried in plastic, but I will soon. Before I make an utter fool of myself, does anyone have an idea regarding the roles of the negative pins? Does one read the internal chip? Why do voltages change every second? One objective is to eventually read the internal chip to detect fake or defective batteries. .
  15. My M8 LCD stopped showing anything. Leica Germany sent this back to me as it was not possible to fix as same to many other users have malfunction LCD display. (Also I was offered upgrade to M-P) It still take great pictures, setting was still same to what i want it to be so i would still use it. However, once it is back from attempt of repairing in Leica, time setting on camera was about 21 days and some hours off. As I know many of user have damaged LCD, are there any way to access to menu and adjust time?
  16. I know that the banding issue has been discussed in the past, but my searches have lead me to mostly high ISO concerns. This is different, and hard written into the file. Only happens at 640 and is not reproduced by trial and error. any thoughts?
  17. Just got a brand new Sandisk Extreme 8GB 45MB/sec card SDSDRX38192A21. Could anybody here advise me on how to correctly " treat " my SD card? Here is what I customarily do: with camera switched off insert card in camera boot camera Format card in camera Shoot up to 10 DNG + JPG fine image pairs in about 5.5 sec with camera set to "S". Camera takes 54sec to completely write all buffered files to card. Switch of camera Remove card from camera. Lock card. Download card via Lexar USB 3 card reader LRW307URBNA. Eject card via Apple command ⌘ + E Unlock card Reinsert card in camera Reboot camera Reformat card in camera. Shoot new images Would you think this to be appropriate SD practice or do I need to change anything in my workflow? Much obliged, Mark
  19. Been years I've been wanting to shoot around Jakarta (Indonesia) and its satellite cities. Started around 5 years ago with a self-project called shoot Jakarta, and its basically a street photography around Jakarta from my personal cameras. But its been hiatus for 3 years due to my job. 2 weeks ago I finally got my hands on Leica M8, and restarted the self-project again. Hopefully, I can take some photos every weekend. Hope you guys like it. all photos taken with M8 + Voigtlander 28MM F2
  20. Many M8 users have had screens die out on them. I have picked up a used M8 without a working display with the intention of using it as an Film shooting Digital storage Camera. Would appreciate any tips fellow shooters have to give in this regard. This thread would also serve as a one stop for anyone in a similar situation. One important contribution owners with working LCDs could give is key combinations to access functions.
  21. Taken recently in Rome...Fee Fee. M8 Nocti, 5.7 Iso1250 from inside the Pantheon. The light is truly amazing inside, but often very contrasty. I tried to get a softer look. Thanks for looking.
  22. What newer cards are reliable ? I lost 1/2 a shoot for the 3rd time this year. I am getting a bit paranoid because Lexar image rescue5 could not recover any of the files even after several attempts. While shooting I always randomly check on the LCD but then there is nothing on the card - how is that even possible ?
  23. Hello Im just recived a beautyfull used M8, but it whas not to mutch software and information whit it.Is there somthing i "need"? I use Macbook and aperture, no problem so fare. Is there some tips and triks to be ware of ? I come from Canon 7D, sold all and bought a Sony Rx1 (fantastic Camera) and a A7II. But i have all the way have need for tying out a M. So now i whait for a god (Elmarit 28/2.8) lense together whit my Voigtlander 40mm1.4. I have pair old pentax lensen 135mm and a 28mm whit adapter for M, but it dos not seem to fokus at all. anny suggestions ? Thanks Stig
  24. I can’t think of many instances where noise from the camera shutter, adds to the process of photography. Maybe some people-subjects like the sound, knowing the photo is finished… Some really clunky noises out there in camera-land. My Fuji 690SWII sounds like a toy spring shutter…and then needs a double wind… the Canon 60D is enormously noisy with a massive mirror slaps and recock combined. My most discrete cameras are the modern Canon Powershots…in-lens shutters…essentially silent. Even quieter than a Barnack... What was the sound of the Leicavit like??? The Motor-M also made noise. The DSLR clacking at press and presidentials. The M8 sounds like electro-mechanical film winding to me. Web research over the last 3 years since I became a Leica nut shows no references to the “nice sound of the shutter”. Everyone loves to hate the shutter-recock sound. A huge urban myth, I suggest. Perhaps it is an OK sound?? Some sound must be present due to mechanical settings and movements. (Is it another “myth”; like the pathological hatred of the UV/IR filters ??) But no sound at all is preferred…forget your black tape descretionairres... ... It seems it’s always the sound which attracts attention…. the din which discloses the discrete. Care to add anything on camera shutter noise?? The TLR leaf shutters where nice. The M8 delay recock is just silly really? Cheers Dave S
  25. There are certain Leica Summilux 35 1.4 non ASPH lenses that are incompatible with the M8 or M9. I have one that is made in Canada. I looked everywhere to find clues on how to fix the issue. I found little pieces of information and I wanted to do everyone else a favor by taking a video of how I resolved the issue. First, to test if you have a problem - Set the focus to 3 feet (not to infinity). Mount the lens into your M8 or M9. Move the focus ring toward infinity GENTLY. If you feel resistance before infinity - stop. You have the issue. Now, to unmount, backup your focus ring to 3 feet again and then dismount. If you have the issue, do not try to mount the lens while focus is set to infinity. Bad. The problem - There is a shroud that sticks out (a black piece of aluminum highlighted in my video) at the back of the lens. This shroud increases in height as you move to infinity. The M8 and M9 body is preventing that shroud to further stick out while moving to infinity. I have highlighted in the video exactly which part of the shroud is hitting. I also show how I've done the job myself of shaving 1mm off the shroud to allow the focus to get to infinity without obstruction. There are illustrations that say measure 7mm from the bottom of the ring to measure exactly how much to shave, but my video shows what I've done and it works for me. I'm now a happy camper. Happy enough to share what I did. PS: I did not show it but I did tape the lens glass to protect it while I was grinding the shroud with my dremel tool. Here is the video for future adventurers: https://vimeo.com/275145377 Ronnie
