Danke Stefan
  6. Greatly to my surprise, i was informed by the Canadian postal system that they were going to use an image of mine in a series celebrating Canadian photography. The real surprise for me was the choice -- a portrait made in 1970 of the painter Alec Colville, long before I was a practising full-time photographer. It was either the M2 or the M3, with a 35 Cron. I was writing about Colville for Time magazine -- I was a staff writer -- and I took the picture to accompany the piece. (Normally I didn't do this, because it did some of my photographer friends out of work.) I scouted the location beforehand, and when I took Colville there, he figured out what I was doing, which was to make an image in the spirit of his painting. He asked me if I had had visual training, to which I replied"none whatever." One of the tricks with stamps is you have to have something that works really small, which may have been why they chose it. But I am just passing this on for fun.
  7. Hi new to forum I am asking what is a good replacement in a metered M that feels like my old M2 I have an M 9 do not like it
  8. Dear Leica lovers! A while ago I bought my first Leica, an M2. And I've been shooting some test rolls on the street. I've connected a Vivitar 283 flash to it (keeping it in my hand, connected with a cord), mostly shooting t-max 400 on a shutter speed of 500 (quite fast?). Now I keep having some issues with the shutter speed and exposure of the flash on the photos... Maybe there's quite a simple answer to my question... Probably my shutter speed still is too slow or too fast, or could it be my lens (Carl Zeis Biogon M, 28mm)? But I would love to learn from people with more expertise than I have at this moment. What can I do to get my flash properly exposed on my photo's? I've attached an example! Thank you in advance!

  10. Dear Camera Forum members, I have just bought my very first Leica (M2), which is for me quite a special moment. Now I also bought a Vivitar 283, which I don't tend to put on the hot-shoe (I know it's a cold-shoe anyways) but I want to connect it with a sync lead, so I can keep it in my hand while shooting. Can someone please inform me with their expertise on what sync cord will directly work, or do I need a flash adapter? I've found this cord, and was wondering if it might connect directly: http://www.ebay.nl/itm/261495971468?ul_noapp=true Hope to get some more clarification on this subject. Thank you, Justin
  11. Ladies and Gentlemen, I’m in a bit of a quandary and your feedback is much appreciated. By way of background, I purchased an M1 in mint cosmetic condition with the intention of having it converted to an M2 by a highly respected technician here in the US. I paid $200 for the M1. I like the M1’s simplicity (no preview lever, just a rewind lever and lens release). The technician could add a rangefinder and 28mm frame lines, my preferred focal length, making the newly converted M2 a perfect landscape/travel camera. I currently use a two-lens setup, with a 28mm (plus the external finder) and a 50mm on my M3. Unfortunately, the technician found dry shutter curtains upon opening the camera and they would need to be replaced at a cost that might be prohibitive. So here are my three options: 1. Add the new rangefinder, 28mm frame lines, shutter curtains, and a CLA for roughly $800. This would result in a near perfect Franken-Leica built to my specifications. Total invested would be about $1000. 2. Add new shutter curtains and a CLA. This would result in a near perfect M1 that I could sell and then reinvest in a different body. Total invested would be about $500. I’m not really sure what I could get for the overhauled M1. 3. Have the M1 returned and sell it as-is. Total invested would be $200 and I’d hope to recoup this expenditure with the sale. What do you think would be the best course of action? Any advice would help.
  12. Hey guys! I have a serious problem. I got an used M2 in very good condition from my grandfather as a present. I'm in Australia right now. I wanted to take photos of a waterfall and I accidentally slipped off a rock. I had the camera on a strap for sure but it hit the rock. I'm happy the lens is ok and everything still works except for the Viewfinder. It's black but I still can see the framelines and change them with the lever. I know it's a common problem. The prism is seperated because of the old Canada Balm. Now I have two options...1. I can try to find someone who's able to put it together again and resilver the prism. I'm originally from Germany and there is no one who can do that so I must send it to youxin ye or someone else. The second option is to send it to Leica and get a new fiewfinder. I think they use an M6 Viewfinder for this. I love it there are only 3 different framelines in the old finder. The M6 finder has 6 framelines I think. 28/90, 35/135 and 50/75mm paired together. Now my question : do anyone know if I can use these framelines and all the lenses if I get this finder? Or cant the measurer in the bayonett automatically recognize all the lenses? I think they change nothing on the measurer...I hope you know what I mean. Did someone have the same problem and can give me some Infos on that? Thanks in advance! Greetings Thore Saggau
  13. Hi, got scans back from first roll shot on my M2. Small apertures seem ok, as does the focus on distant subjects. But some portraits at the closest focus and wide open are not good at all and some completely off. I had no trouble with my M9 and the Summilux, and I was under the impression that film was more forgiving. I don't have the M9 anymore to test. One thing I noticed was that the focus patch on the M2 wouIdn't kick in until about .8/.85. I've tweaked the cam now and it does now kick in when the Summilux is at its closest focus, so this may solve the problem on the next film. However, I notice that the Summilux focus ring actually moves past the .7 mark to about where .6 or .65 would be. Perhaps this is the problem, an additional one, or normal – as I said the lens worked fine with the M9, and I quite often shot at 1.4 at close ranges. Any advice would be great thanks, Colin. 14. Dear All I wonder if anyone can give me some advice or help. We were burgled last week from north west London and all of my precious cameras have been taken. I don't have the reference numbers for the whole stash, but what was taken included an M2, son-1085967 with a 40mm/ f2 Summicron lens in a brown leather case an M8 body, fabrication number 3196666, VK number 10702 an M9 body body number 0384,with 35mm/ 2.8 summaron lens , son-2081257 There was also a 50mm/ f2 Summicron and a 90mm / f28 Elmarit as well as a Hasselblad 500C/M with an f/2.8 80mm and a f/3.5 100mm lens and my old Nikon FM2 with a 24 mm, a 35mm, a 50mm and an 80mm lens and a Canon 5D mk 2 body a Polaroid SX-70 an old battered Mamiya 645 in a metal case I'm devastated, not least by the M2/ 35mm which was the first Leica I bought, and which after a particularly terrible time working in DRC was the only thing that was evacuated with me. I wonder if anyone has been through the same devastating experience and can offer any advice? The police have done forensics/opened a case but is that all I can do? I’d be hugely thankful for any help/ lead in this All best Miriam

  21. Kennt jemand dieses Schnelladesystem, was ich bei meiner M2 vorgefunden habe? Man kann die Patrone herausnehmen, muß es aber nicht, man kann sie von oben laden. Vielen Dank
  22. Hi, I have found something on my M2 I ordered a couple months ago off ebay to have something very interesting. The camera that I have is an M2 serial number 993880, but in my viewfinder I see 28,35,50,75,and 135mm frame lines which I know is not normal. It looks almost exactly like an M4. My thinking was that someone must have had the RF repaired with a newer M series framelines, but the black seal is still intact (although it could be fake now). If anyone has any information about what i now own i would be very grateful as I am super confused to be owning a camera that shouldn't exist haha. I attached pictures of what the VF looks like. Thanks!! Adam
