  1. Using the Leica SF24D and an M10, when I half-press the shutter release the live view on the LCD almost completely blacks out. This only happens when the flash is ON. It doesn't matter if the flash is in M, A, or TTL mode, It doesn't matter if the flash mode in the camera is set to beginning of or end of exposure (first curtain or second curtain). This completely defeats the use of LV with a flash. Is this a known issue and/or am I missing something? Thanks.
  2. Hey guys, is it frowned upon using the live view of the M10? Isn´t buying a Leica M, because of the range finder? Or does that all not matter and it´s all about the photos? Would love to have a little discussion about it. Keep it kind, guys. I know this can be controversial, but um honestly curious what Leica Users think about it.
  3. Hello there. Any advice or does it need a repair? Live view on my Mono is just black and not responding. Ive tried removing the battery etc and re setting the camera to no avail. New 2021 firmware installed and working fine for a few weeks. regards. Biff
  4. Hello everyone, I had a situation today (that still persists) - while having a walk the camera (SL 601) just stop "seeing", I wasn't able anymore to use the viewfinder or the LCD, since nothing appeared on it. The rest of the functions work fine, even light metering, the menu system etc. I switched battery, reset the camera, nothing worked. Does anyone have an experience with this kind of phenomena? Any advises? Thanks, Adam.
  6. Hi all, I've been having a problem with my M240 where when attaching any lens using a Voigtlander Leica screw mount to M mount adaptor, the lens is not recognised as being connected, and as such, I cannot use Live View, EVF or video functions. It shoots photos just fine. I've attached my Voigtlander 12mm, shot a number of frames, however video does not work. The camera has an error that reports 'No lens attached' or similar and refuses to go into Live View mode. I contacted Leica, and they told me to set Lens Detection to OFF and try again. Same problem. At this point they told me to send it in for repair. Seeing as I've only had it a very short time, and, being in Australia, this is a pain (and a great expense) whichever way I try to do it (either sending to the authorised repairer in Melbourne or sending straight to Solms) I'm somewhat reticent to do so. Obviously I may end up having to do this, but I thought I'd ask here first to see if anyone had any similar experiences or possible solutions? My only thought is that my adaptor is quite old, and perhaps a newer one (a coded one?) may have a different design and work better in this situation. Has anyone else by any chance experienced this issue?
  7. Last night at our local M240 launch, got to play with the M240. Question for Leica and a potential firmware change....... With Liveview enabled, would it be possible to provide some visual "focus confirmation" in the optical viewfinder ? Eg maybe have the frameline switch to the alternating colour "Red to White" or "White to Red" at the moment of focus ?
  8. Hi All, can ppl with an M comment on my experience with the exposure compensation so far. I just received my new Leica M and it's fantastic but one of my most anticipated features (exposure compensation) really doesn't work in it's current form. There are two issues for me, 1 is hardware and 2 is software; 1. The focusing button on the front is really small and stiff and i cannot use it 4 out of 5 attempts when trying to set the exposure compensation. I have properly working hands but the button is impossible to press easily. And to press it consistently i have to adjust my grip to an awkward one which is not good for taking the photo. 2. I upgraded from the M9 to the M mainly for the use of the EVF adapter and live view capabilities. Now that i have it, it turns out that you can only see a preview of the final image after half depressing the shutter. This is too late. And defeats the purpose of having live view. I understand that you want to allow for accurate focussing but why not just use the 'bright' view for when the camera is zoomed in with focus assist. When i shoot in a room or any location, the exposure needs to be set first and then the focus as the exposure is normally constant for the whole room where ever i go but the focus can change each shot. At present the firmware treats it the other way around. This can all be fixed in the firmware with 2 additions; a) Allow exposure compensation to occur when ever i turn the Setting Dial while the camera is ready to take a photo. Allow the live view and EVF to display what the final picture will look like. The current setting of showing how 0 exposure compensation looks can be maintained for the focus assist feature (when it zooms in). So does anyone know who the best person is for me to talk to about the firmware updates? Thanks
  9. It is obvious for all that current (and old) Leica lenses for M cameras do not have any mechanical nor electronic driving system to remote close the diaphragm blades to the set aperture. Then a question arises regarding the claim made for the new Leica M saying that this camera features Live View and Live View focusing. This is true (I hope) but not in the way found in other digital cameras, which lenses work at full aperture and close down only when you press the shutter. I guess that composing and focusing will be done at the working aperture and this has advantages and disadvantages. Advantage: You will appreciate the actual deep of field. Disadvantages: Poor vision in low light conditions. Soft focusing when using small apertures. I did not found any remark on this subject in the Leica papers, but I believe that this is an important point to be stated.
  10. I'm excited about the new M, but there's one thing nagging me. How bright will the electronic viewfinder or the live view screen be if you are shooting with a small aperture or with a neutral density filter on the lens? Does the camera compensate for this? If not, the through-the-lens business would be of rather limited usefulness. There's still the rangefinder, of course, but it would be nice to employ the TTL view for general photography when using wide-angle lenses or long lenses.
