  1. Hello my fellow Leica shooters..... I am looking for advice from the peanut gallery on a lens purchase. In short, I am going to be spending three weeks traveling Thailand soon, and need to travel light, so I'll be carrying my M240 during the trip. At one point in the trip, I will also be taking a 4 day kayak trip and will be doing a bit of shooting from the kayak. I have two options: 1) Buy a used version of the 28-35-50 Tri-Elmer MATE lens - which I've never used before. I've read extensively about it, but dont have hands-on with the lens. 2) Take my existing 50mm Summicron and 21mm lenses and buy a 35mm Summicron and carry a set of three lenses. Each of these options has pros and cons - the only neutral is the price, with the MATE being just a tad cheaper. Obviously option #1 means I don't have to deal with lens changes, but I'm limited to f/4 for nighttime and low-light shooting. Anyone been to Thailand have experience with the night scenes in cities like Bangkok - will I be handicapped with an f/4 lens? Option 2 has the benefit of being f/2 lenses and each lens is smaller than the MATE, but I'd have to conduct lens changes more often. I welcome any thoughts - I realize this is a personal opinion and decision, but am curious what you'd do in the situation? Thanks Kristen
  2. I have just recently bought a Summarex 85mm f 1.5 lens. In y opinion it is capable of producing sharp and exciting images, as well as some very soft creamy edged images. Are there any other Summarex users who use this lens for regular photo images? I use the lens on an M Monochrome and Sony Ar7IIr.
  3. I have a real-world hands on review of the new Leica Summilux-TL 35mm f/1.4 with some samples. Let me know what you think! https://fstoppers.com/originals/hands-new-leica-summilux-tl-35mm-f14-lens-121465
  4. Hi I need help or some opinions ,on which lens should I take with me in the next trip to Mexico. I'm thinking of taking just 2 with me out of 3 , or better just one. To choose from: 50 Lux Asph, 35 Summarit f2.4 Asph and Tele-Elmarit 90 f2.8. Thanks,
  5. Hello, I noticed my 50mm Summicron is starting to lightly haze. I don't know if it is because the weather in New York is now amazingly hot, and sticky, and the lens is nearly 45 years old and has never been serviced because it was essentially new in box when I got it. I guess my main question is honestly where is the place to get this cleaned as best as possible? I would like to put an end to this ASAP. I know about Sherry and Don, but would sending it to Leica NJ cost about the same amount or a little more? Thank you in advance, Greg
  6. Greeting Knowledgeable Gentlemen, I have a curious little accessory here. From the waist down, it's a normal lens hood fitting the 3.5cm & 5cm Summicron, Elmar, etc. Instead of a normal hood, however, it has a male 49mm thread on the front. It's marked "42" on the rear chrome surface that faces the camera. Please help!
  7. A brief article where I share my experience with this lens over the last years, and also some pictures I made with it with various Leica cameras: http://indergaard.net/2017/07/02/leica-summilux-m-50mm-f14-asph-review/
  8. Dear Senior members, I just received my m10 camera early October. Besides using the modern Leica lens, I do like the compactness of the old collapsible Leica lens of the 1950s. I have the old Leica ELMOM 50 / 2.8 and SOONC 35 / 3.5, both are in collapsible version. The m10 instruction booklet advises not to collapse the lens whilst mounted on the camera, as it risk damaging the camera and lens. Is my understanding correct? Thank you. Benedict
  9. Hey girls and boys, I'm looking for ne portrait lens for my m8. I have an 35 lens but its not close enough. Do you have an recommendation for an portrait lens? Thank for help. Micha
  10. I just found (yet another...) 'Made in Germany' 35/1.4 v2 (11870). S/N is 3433XXX, which indicates that its birth date was sometime in 1987 if I'm not mistaken. It comes in its original box, with matching serial on the sticker. Interestingly, however, the writing on the box says 'Made in Canada'. I know it was some kind of a transition period for Leica, with parts from Canada being sent back to Germany, but it's the first time I see such a lens/box mismatch. Out of curiosity, a quick question for the experts here: have you seen this before?
  11. Hi, I'm new to Leica's and I have just bought an M4 but as I'm on a pretty tight budget, I bought a Jupiter 12 35mm lens. I've heard good things about this lens for the price but as it doesn't currently fit the M4 I've read that I need an adapter for it. Does anybody know the exact adapter I need? I've seen some on eBay that I think might do the trick but I can't be sure and I don't want to buy the wrong thing! Thanks.
  12. Who will solve this one? I have attached an interesting photo of Winogrand working, taken by photographer Tod Papageorge in 1967. The problem is as follows: Winogrand is using two Leicas (I assume) - up to his eye is one with a Canon 35mm f/1.8 attached. Down towards his left hip is another camera with a mystery lens. Which one is it? As Papageorge took this picture, Winogrand had just finished taking one of his most famous photographs. Seemingly with a 35mm Canon (not the well known 28mm he often used, and perhaps even made famous). Also of interest, I have actually seen his contact print. The roll starts off in London, then BOOM, first strike back in Central Park gives an iconic photo. This should be fun!
  13. Hello from China everyone! My first post here, so please bear with me. I’m not a photographer or even close to it. I just want to learn more and do some things which I will get into later perhaps. I own a LEICA D-Lux Typ 109. I love it. I was wondering if there is any way of removing the lens and attaching the body to a LEICA APO-Televid 82mm or perhaps even a NIKON Monarch Spotting Scope body? I will leave the question at that and only get into more tech details if the replies warrant.
  14. In case you missed it: https://www.ft.com/content/1e27b37c-21f7-11e8-8138-569c3d7ab0a7 Great piece on the Leica factory and the incredible workmanship in a lens
  15. Hi! I've been smitten by images I have seen online made by the 75mm Summilux and have recently found one in mint condition for a decent price. Before I decide to sneak another lens into my house... does anyone have any thoughts, reviews, comments or experience they can share with this lens? Love it? Hate it? Any quirks? Any examples of photos you have taken with it to push me over the edge? Thanks so much! Mike
