  1. nice video
  2. pity its only in Japanese.. "This book is a comprehensive collection of such masterpiece lenses. In addition to historical knowledge and descriptions by photographers, we also provide information on "lens experiences"
  3. Hello Leica-land, Been doing some lurking in the forums for some time, but can't find a definitive list of lenses suitable for astrophotography. Main things I'm looking at are fast aperture, low coma, flat field performance. Fast aperture may be not a total dealbreaker with the high iso abilities these days (using an M10-R BP, currently) especially if a tracking mount is used. That said, I haven't seen too many folks doing astro with Leica cameras/glass, though I know it's possible given my first Milky Way run of the season this year. See below for my shot of the Milky Way competing against the light pollution of NYC taken this weekend. Currently I've only tested my existing lenses (Zeiss 21 2.8 and 50 Lux 1.4. ASPH) and both seem to have horrible coma even stopped down. I mostly used the Zeiss and even at f4 I found spots of coma, though interestingly not uniform (maybe there's some field curvature going on here where one corner is better than another?) I've read about Leica's own fast wides, but most seem out of my price range at the moment. I'm definitely getting a Zeiss 35mm 1.4 which may fit the bill for this use as it's pretty darn near optically perfect, but are there any wider lenses the community could recommend? or am I doomed to lust/save for the 21Lux or 28 Lux/cron?
  4. I know there are already a few threads which briefly touch on this lens, but I want to know: What do you think about the little 21mm f/4 Voigtländer? After planning a few photo trips this year, I thought I need a wide angle. Until now, my NEX-7 with the 12mm Zeiss Touit did the job, but I no longer wanted to bring that rather large combination with me all the time. My Billingham Hadley small still has a little room, and my M-system lacks a wide angle lens (I currently only have a 50mm and a 90mm Summicron). So today, I found a deal at leicashop.com (a well known Vienna-based Leica dealer), so I ordered the Color-Skopar 21mm f/4 together with the old 21mm Voigtländer viewfinder for €420. As I can still cancel the order - or simply send back the lens later - I would love to get some input. My Touit is a great wide angle lens, and I don't want to loose too much image quality. Speed is not a concern - since the M (240) can't do exposures longer than 8 seconds at high ISO anyway, night landscapes are out of question, and that's about the only thing where I need speed in a wide angle lens. So have you shot with the lens? Could you post some images made with it? Is the color shift a severe problem? The internet isn't filled well enough with information about this lens, unfortunately, so thank you in advance for any thoughts!
  5. Dear friends, I need your advice for a wide angle lens on my M10 R. I was thinking maybe 18-22mm. 24 mm would be almost borderline. I currently have 35, 50, 75mm. Since I rarely need it, mainly for interiors, it can be cheaply new or used. However, I value the fact that it is as small as possible. It should be "sharp", but it doesn't have to be super sharp, good coloring would be desirable, as would a certain light intensity. I can use the Visoflex, but if I can, I'd rather focus with the rangefinder. I would be very grateful for your information.
  6. Greetings to the forum! I am new to forum and this is my first post. I recently purchased an summarit 50mm f1.5 on Ebay. But just now I noticed that its serial number is not in the range of summarit on any source online, this for example: https://reddotcamera.net/leica-lenses/serial-number/ . My lens' serial number is 1000025. The closest match is summarit 1000000 (https://www.nocsensei.com/camera/tecnica/marco-cavina/marcocavina/leitz-summarit-50mm-115/). and accroding to the record 1000001 should be an Elmar. Want to ask the forum whether cases like this are usual in leica lens production, building a little bit more than planned and not recording them? Is this lens a valid lens? Should I report this case to the database? Thank you! the figure is attached!
  7. Hi, I know that Tele lens are not the most popular among Leica M users, but despite of this there are some old and new models in the market. My question is particularly for 135mm Tele lens, for what kind of photography do you use it? When you deicide to pick 135mm and mount it from your collection? Photo examples will be highly appreciate it
  8. Hi! I've been smitten by images I have seen online made by the 75mm Summilux and have recently found one in mint condition for a decent price. Before I decide to sneak another lens into my house... does anyone have any thoughts, reviews, comments or experience they can share with this lens? Love it? Hate it? Any quirks? Any examples of photos you have taken with it to push me over the edge? Thanks so much! Mike
  9. I mostly just want to gripe here. I've been trying for a couple of months to find a vaguely period-correct collapsible 50mm Summicron for a IIIg. Twice so far I've actually bought one, for hundreds of dollars, once from a reputable shop and once from someone on Reddit. Both Summicrons were inoperable, and in the same way - disassembled by an amateur and put back together I assume with one or more elements reversed or in the wrong order. No sharp image at any distance, just a hazy swirling blur from infinity to up close. I haven't taken a Summicron apart, but I'm wondering if this is a particularly easy thing to get wrong? In any case I assume even if it were reassembled in the right order and orientation it'd need major recalibration than I'd have no way to accomplish. The most recent one also had the aperture ring installed wrong, rotated 90 degrees from correct. It's just disappointing to see that sellers apparently don't even bother slapping a lens on a digital body and taking a quick snapshot to see if it's even functional at all. It's kind of a dreamy effect but this is not the "Leica Glow" I was hoping for! 🤣
  10. My Tele Elmarit M 90 shows these marks when inspecting under a certain angle. It looks like dried water behind the front-element of the lens. It does not show in photos but still it concerns me. Is this serviceable? Have you ever seen something like this?
  11. I found this Carl Zeiss Jena lens for Leica SM (M39) at a flea market. This is what I could find about it: The Herar should be cheaper opportunity to the Carl Zeiss Biogon. It was originally produced for the Contax mount. The lens was produced around 500-1000 times. The one i found appears to be a prototype/sample for the Leica screw mount M39. It has a connection for the range finder and the aperture can be controlled with the front ring of the lens. It was produced before 1939. I hope I got everything right. My two questions: Are the infos are all right (age, Version etc.) and since inform own a Leica with drew Mount I want to sell it. What is the right price? (I only found two offers online both around 3000usd, is it really worth that much?) I also read that one was sold at a Auction at Christies in 1992. I’m very thankful for any held or answer ✌🏻
  12. I keep hearing good things about the Leica 40mm f2 Summicron. (also read Minolta Rokkor option). Just wondering if it’s as good as the reviews appear to be. Currently have a Nokton 35mm 1.4 & a 50mm 1.2 Nokton. The 50mm is a great lens but quite big and the 35 1.4 is a bit of a so and so for vignetting. Wondering if the 40mm f2 would cut the mustard on my M6/M10 combination.
  13. Hi there. Couple of days ago I decided to try some LTM glass on my Leica MP and bought a new Fotodiox 50/75 adapter. While it worked perfectly I was surprised and mostly heart broken to see that the mid line of the lens mount had been scratched on my beloved camera which I saved for such a long time to buy. The scratch is superficial as far as I can see and on the 4,5,6 and 7 o'clock directions (The photo which I share on here doesn't do them justice. They are more visible than what looks like here). I didn't have time to develop my film so I cannot say if it damaged the mount on funtional level. But I want to learn your experiences with similar situations if you had any. I read that these things can happen even when you use native lenses on cameras but as far as I know for the last 9 months my Voigtlander 35mm f/2 Ultron didn't damage or let alone scratch the lens mount on my MP. I reattached my Voigtlander after experiencing this situation and shooting another roll of film with it to see if there is any problem. Is there a possibility that I damaged my camera functionally? Can my Voigtlander be attached to the lens mount securely and without further damage either to the lens mount or the lens itself? What are you thoughts on Fotodiox adapters? The adapter that I bought seems that it is made of a material that is not similar to the material that Leica uses on its mount. I would be grateful to read your thoughts. Thanks in advance.
  14. Hi everyone, I just purchased my first cinema style lens for the SL2-S and have just done a quick review and first impressions about it here I know some users have wondered how non-Leica lenses perform on this body, so I thought this could add to the literature. I have to say that this lens has been a pleasure to use and edit from– the wide angle is insanely fun to use! However, and I guess I don't really touch on this in the video, I don't think this is a normal walk-around lens like most Leica lenses are intended for. Even the bigger SL lenses can seem normal to walk around with. Because of the gears and almost intimidating appearance, I don't believe this fun wide-angle would be all that fun to roam the streets with. This all being said, I can see this being a fun option for small productions and wedding/event use! Sidenote– You may also notice some wobbling/warping on the sides of the video images, and I believe this is because the SL2-S currently does not properly accommodate for a 20mm focal length with IBIS. Throughout this video I used the 21mm option, so the weird warping becomes apparent when moving a lot Cheers
  15. I must admit that since acquiring it several years ago, I do not much go to my Noctilux 50mm f/.95. My biggest disappointment is that while I really want to use it for portraiture, the minimum focusing distance is so far that I am unable to fill the screen with my subject. Instead, I must back away significantly and then crop. So, before I consider selling the beast, I thought that maybe forum members could post their favorite .95 images to persuade me otherwise. I'll start with a photo from the .95 that I am happy with. Happy New Year! Image: Copyright 2020 Gordon Ownby
  16. Tell us about your M lens disasters. It is painful even to think about something happening to those precious little gems, let alone experiencing it. What was the worst that happened to your M lens? For me, it was water droplets between elements in my Noctilux 0.95 from a job in Southeast Asia. And I am not counting the french kiss with concrete floor of my 28/2.8 III Mandler Elmarit in Afghanistan.
  17. I have just recently bought a Summarex 85mm f 1.5 lens. In y opinion it is capable of producing sharp and exciting images, as well as some very soft creamy edged images. Are there any other Summarex users who use this lens for regular photo images? I use the lens on an M Monochrome and Sony Ar7IIr.
  18. I just found (yet another...) 'Made in Germany' 35/1.4 v2 (11870). S/N is 3433XXX, which indicates that its birth date was sometime in 1987 if I'm not mistaken. It comes in its original box, with matching serial on the sticker. Interestingly, however, the writing on the box says 'Made in Canada'. I know it was some kind of a transition period for Leica, with parts from Canada being sent back to Germany, but it's the first time I see such a lens/box mismatch. Out of curiosity, a quick question for the experts here: have you seen this before?
  19. Hi All, I put the Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 Classic on my SL2. It is not a recognized lens, so I chose the Summilux M1:1.4/35 ASPH. 11873 lens profile. Everything works great except the Aperture setting recorded on the shot does not match the aperture setting that I used on the Lens. I have also tried the 2 other M 35mm lens profiles in the menu with different but still incorrect Aperture recorded in the shot. Can someone share with me how to capture the right Aperture used? Do I need to create a custom lens profile? And if so, how do I do that? Thanks much for your help. -patrick.
  20. I have the 12586 lens hood for the 50mm f1.4 pre-asph lens. The unit unscrews to accept filters (I assume). What series size filters do I need and how are they held in place? I understand that I need to use a special slim 43mm filter if I want to hood to fit, but I'd rather just use drop in filters if that is possible. Why else would the hood unscrew into two parts otherwise? Thanks LarryK
  21. Curious as to if this is lens haze or not . Have not noticed anything in the photographs . Thanks
  22. Please share your opinion - if you have used or owned both lenses or any opinion on the topic. Mostly interested in comparison of render, sharpness, bokeh, pop etc. according to you - digital sensor or film. Early reports indicated the Hexanons were inferior. According to LHSA "some Hexanon early samples were reported to have focusing discrepancies, long since resolved, and that adversely affected initial sales. The current consensus: Konica KM and Leica M lenses, even those with longer focal lengths and wider apertures, can be used interchangeably on both cameras without problems." Lots of posts ot the tiny flange difference between the cameras, but here we discuss the lens. Mr. Rockwell even went as far as comparing the build of Summicron 50 (V) to the Hexanon-M 50 side by side and they indeed look almost identical. Check the pic on his webpage under the Hexanon topic. I have recently acquired a Hexanon-M 50/2 (photographed below on my M) and it is a stellar performer, slightly better wide open (especially corners) compared to Summicron M 50/2 (IV) in all the tests I did. YMMV.
  23. Who will solve this one? I have attached an interesting photo of Winogrand working, taken by photographer Tod Papageorge in 1967. The problem is as follows: Winogrand is using two Leicas (I assume) - up to his eye is one with a Canon 35mm f/1.8 attached. Down towards his left hip is another camera with a mystery lens. Which one is it? As Papageorge took this picture, Winogrand had just finished taking one of his most famous photographs. Seemingly with a 35mm Canon (not the well known 28mm he often used, and perhaps even made famous). Also of interest, I have actually seen his contact print. The roll starts off in London, then BOOM, first strike back in Central Park gives an iconic photo. This should be fun!
