  1. Now that the S System seems to be retiring and lens prices are coming down I thought it would be a nice resource for people that are looking to buy used lenses to be able to see how each of the different S System lenses render without having to wade through the Leica S image thread where the images aren't always clearly marked. I don't own the 100mm Summmicron-S, but it will probably be the next one I buy if I find one for a good price! Would be great if someone that owns the 30mm, 45mm, 120mm could make the appropriate threads and keep them alive. Please add your images with the Leica Summicron-S 100mm. Looking forward to see all your work.

  5. Today I published an article dedicated to the Leica 30-90mm Vario-Elmar-S in the field on the Leica S (007), including my consideration about using it on the Leica SL. Here it is: https://vieribottazzini.com/2017/03/leica-30-90mm-f3-5-5-6-vario-elmar-s-asph-user-report.html Hope you'll enjoy the read and images! Best, Vieri
  6. A little background of myself, I earn my money by taking portraits and having multiple M systems and lenses I always carry a MF system because I love the rendering for my staged photoshoots. I started with an S2, tried the S006 and upgraded my S2 to a S007. I was always very happy with my S007 but I often struggled with the 100mm f2 for focus and I believed the Mirrorless MF system would fulfill my needs better. After having test the Fuji (which was a piece of plastic and the colors and rendering were far off the S line) I loved the look and feeling of the Hasselblad X1D so I got rid of my S007 with 100mm f2 but kept my Summarit-S 70mm CS in the hope that the S3 would one day be released. The X1D was light, felt good in the hand, has sharp lenses with leaf shutters and has a moveable focus point and performed well at high resolution. In the beginning it was a honey moon I but after a while I started to miss the OVF and mature feeling of the S line and the lenses (although X1D lenses are very sharp) the XCD 45mm and XCD 90mm never gave me the rendering of the S lenses. The X1D also frustrated me of the short battery life, the feeling of a prototype often the focus point didn't move correctly and the interface was buggy even after all the latest firmware updates. Today I found a demo model S007 in a new condition and grabbed it I will shoot it the following time with only the 70mm CS lens but I might slowely add the 100mm f2.0 (which I stupidly sold) or maybe a 120mm CS. Some might call the S as we know it will be the end but I believe the S system will be a classic camera a true Leica cult camera. Attached some photos of my shoots with the S...
  7. A spectacular sunrise from Playa Ballota, in Asturias (Spain), one of my favourite locations on this amazing coast. The northern coast of Spain is truly beautiful and relatively undiscovered: I can’t wait to go back there next September for one more week of great photography, friendship and fun! Leica S (Typ 007), Leica Summarit-S 35mm and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters. Thank you for viewing, best regards Vieri
  8. Hello, Took my Leica S2 out in London yesterday to see how it performed out of the studio. Took a total of about 50 shots in groups of a dozen or so in 3 locations. Apon my return I discovered that instead of my usual CF AND SD cards I only had the SD card in the camera. Strangely the S2 only saved 8 images (all DNG) to the SD. A single image from the first location. 7 from the second and none at all from the last location. This has never happened before. The battery was fully charged and didn't require changing during the day. The SD card has plenty of space on it. BUT the S2 was set to save in parallel and I've never not had both CF and SD in the camera together AND The camera was set to save DNG only. I'm trying to reproduce the same issue now. Seems that there's maybe an issue with having the camera set to parallel saving when DNG only is selected and there's only an SD card present. Can anyone confirm that for me? Or could this be something more serious? Cheers, Freggio.
  9. Hi, I have a SL and use my 75 lux or 50 nocti f1 to shoot portraits with it. Mostly I shoot wide open, but not always. I'm thinking to buy a S-system to do studio portraits but I'm wondering about the difference in rendering and IQ (keeping my SL too ) Of course, I know a medium format will have this special beautiful look and less dof but I'm just curious... Watching a lot of images shot with a S-system, I prefer the typ006 for the ccd rendering... So, if anybody can post the same image/portait/ shot with both systems should be nice Any input would be appreciated! Thanks and best regards Peter
  10. Having photographed it from sea level quite a few times, on a stormy weather day I decided to go for a different point of view. This is Durdle Door from above, taken during one of my Workshops in Dorset last spring. Leica S, Leica Summarit-S 35mm and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters. Thanks for viewing, best regards Vieri
  11. While I love the big vistas, I also like to go looking into smaller detail. There is beauty and landscapes to be found there too. The Footprint, taken at Mesquite Dunes during one of my Workshops in Death Valley last January. Leica S (Typ 007), Leica Vario-Elmar-S 30-90mm and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters. Thanks for viewing, best regards Vieri
  12. Sunrise at Zabriskie Point, taken in Death Valley during one of the Workshops I led there last January. Leica S (007), Leica Vario-Elmar-S 30-90mm and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters. Thanks for viewing, best regards Vieri
  13. Moody Talisker Bay, on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, after sunset. Taken during one of my Workshops on Skye last spring with the Leica S (Typ 007), the Leica 35mm Summarit-S and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters. Thanks for viewing, best regards Vieri

  15. A wild sunset over a dilapidated farm in the Valli di Comacchio, Italy. Shot with the Leica S, Leica Vario-Elmar-S 30-90mm and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters just before my Leica Akademie Workshop in Comacchio last year. Thanks for viewing, best regards Vieri

  17. A serene Racetrack sunset, taken during my Workshop in Death Valley in winter 2017. Leica S (007), Leica Vario-Elmar-S 30-90mm at 35mm and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters. Thanks for viewing, best regards Vieri
  18. I've just received the new Leica S half case and strap by Angelo Pelle http://www.angelo-pelle.com . In the past I had a lot of half cases for by M made by Angelo Pelle but with the S he went even a step further regarding fitting. The case and strap are wonderfully finished in real Italian leather with a beautiful irregular texture. The backdoor is also included and integrated in the half case. The case protects the S and makes it a second skin. You don't need to remove the case for fitting a tripod which is very handy. Angelo Pelle offers a lot of different colors/finishes for the S on his website. Shot with Leica MM CCD and 75mm Summilux
  19. The amazing cliffs and lighthouse of Neist Point, the westernmost land point on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, bathed in the soft light of a spectacular sunset. With the Leica S (007), Leica Super-Elmar-S 24mm and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters. Thanks for viewing, best Vieri
  20. "Portizuelo's Devil", in Asturias (Spain). You need to do some acrobatics to get to Portizuelo when the tide is high, blocking access to the beach; however, the landscape there is definitely worth the shower. Leica S (007), Leica Summarit-S 70mm, Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters. Thanks for viewing, best regards Vieri
  21. "The end of the line", shot in Death Valley (USA) with the Leica S and Summarit-S 35mm. The drive to the Racetrack can be a bit taxing, especially if you don't have the right car for it, but it definitely worth it: such an amazing place, not to be missed! Thanks for viewing, best regards Vieri
  22. A spectacular sunrise at beautiful Playa Ballota, in the Asturias (Spain), one of my favourite destination along this marvellous coast. Leica S (Typ 007), Leica Summarit-S 35mm, Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters. Thanks for viewing, best regards Vieri
  23. After the vertical one taken with the Leica SL I posted a while ago, one more Sunrise at Playa de Gueirua in the Asturias (Spain), this time in landscape format and with a slightly longer lens (28mm FOV instead of 15mm). Playa de Gueirua is really amazing with the right sky and definitely worth the descent (and ascent back up!). This time is Leica S (Typ 007) and Leica Summarit-S 35mm. Thanks for viewing, best regards Vieri
  24. I love Badwater in Death Valley: it's an extraordinary location, its landscapes are ever changing and with a sunset storm the light there becomes really magic. Leica S (Typ 007), Leica Vario-Elmar-S 30-90mm. Thanks for viewing, best regards Vieri
