  1. Three Asian tourists sample the delights of one of the many stalls selling a variety of freshly cooked food within the main market which can be found just off La Rambla in Barcelona. The Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria, often simply referred to as La Boqueria, dates back to 1217, although the preset structure dates to 1853. Now firmly on the international tourist trail, the market is still popular with locals and visitors alike. Leica M9 and Zeiss 50mm Sonnar f1.5. 1/30 - f4 - 800iso. Gerry
  2. Taken in Rouen, France, suing a Leica M9 with Zeiss Sonnar-M 50mm f1.5 lens/ 1/180 at f9.5 @320iso. Gerry
  3. A smartly dressed mature couple out on a shopping trip in Spitalerstraße, Hamburg Leica M9 with 35mm Summarit f2.5. 1/125 f8 @800iso post-processed in Lightroom CC. Thanks for looking, Gerry

    Wilton & Wool

I have just published 'Wilton & Wool - The Sheep Framing Heritage of Wiltshire' on this link https://spark.adobe.com/page/vNzf3Tpw9WonI/. All images were taken on a Leica M9 using a 35mm Summarit-M f2.5 lens. Gerry

  6. Last weekend I was in Hamburg to join the Craig Semetko workshop on street photography organised by LFI. Now, I will confess that I was a little dubious as to whether I would gain much from this and it worked out fairly expensive taking into account the fact that I had to book 4 nights accommodation and flights from the U.K. - and face the hard fact that the value of the UK pound had plummeted by over 25% in Europe since it was decided (not by my vote) that we should pull out of the E.U. I have been shooting 'street photography' for around 50 years, and have exhibited it pretty much world-wide so would I really gain anything? In the end I decided that, at the very least, I would get to meet Craig who has been a friend on Facebook for a long time and whose work I admire. As it was I found I learnt more than I could have imagined, met some great new guys, together with the picture editor of Die Zeit Sunday magazine (you don't meet people at that level every day of the week!) Basically I had a ball despite the cold Hamburg weather. I will post a few of my favourites in the following posts. All were shot on a Leica M9 with a 35mm Summarit-M f2.5 lens at 800iso to allow me the depth of field and shutter speed combination I wanted. I hope you enjoy them. Oh, and if you get chance and street photography is your thing (or even if it is not) go and meet Craig. He is a great entertainer and a consummate professional when it comes to street photography. As for LFI, they are great guys and special thanks must go to Simon Schwarzer. Gerry "Christ!"
  7. Wearing their red hat a small child holds the hand of its father as they walk through the shopping streets of Hamburg. Taken with a Leica M9 and 35mm Summarit-M f2.5 - 1/90 f8 @800iso Gerry
  8. 37 months after the Leica M9 disappeared into the closet, the Leica M9 returned... I've been using the Leica M9 for the last five weeks and found it so pleasant to use that I decided to add a Page 19 to my Leica M9 article series. It also contains a dictionary of Leica words as well as a visual guide to the features of the Leica M9. Enjoy! 9.
  10. A young lady poses for her partner to take her photograph against the backdrop of the streets of Barcelona in this image shot with a Leica M9 and Zeiss 50mm Sonnar f1.5, and then converted to b&w in Lightroom. Gerry
  11. I decided to try out shooting .dng and b&w .jpeg fine on the M9, and this is the result. Post processing was done in a combination of Lightroom and SilverEfex Pro2. All in all I am pretty happy with the result. Caption: An Asian woman tries to persuade a disabbled woman to take a book about meditation, and then asks for payment for it. 12. Taken in Southampton (England) with permission. Used the Leica M9 with 35mm Summarit f2.5.
  13. I had the great pleasure of spending the day at a Leica Akademie event in the town of Bath (England) last weekend which you can read about here and I particularly like this image taken with my M9 and a 35mm Summarit f2.5 which I then processed in LRCC. Gerry
  14. Hello, Just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. I have been lurking here for quite a while but have never owned a Leica. Always wanted one (since I started shooting) but just couldn't afford it until now. I bought a used M9 and Voigtlander 50mm f1.1! This combo really makes my photos sing. I am sure Leica glass is far superior but this is all I could afford to start off with. So a little background: I grew up in the midwest and joined the Marines right out of high school. Worked on air traffic control radar systems (as a technician not a controller) during my 5 year enlistment. Got out and decided I would attend college at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. I was working towards a bachelors in aviation business but after 1.5 years I realized I didn't enjoy it. I just couldn't get used to the idea of working in a office building wearing a suit everyday. I then started applying for just about any electronics technician job that would pop up online. I eventually got lucky and secured a job with the National Weather Service. This has given me the opportunity to move around quite a bit. I started in Indiana, then Hawaii for a spell, then of to Las Vegas, and I now live in Kansas City, Missouri. I have never been into photography and it wasn't until my daughter was born that I realized I liked taking pictures. I don't have an artistic bone in my body so I do not consider myself a photographer but more of a "snap-shooter". I am working on composition and getting the right light to tell the story in which I try to convey but I know I struggle way more than someone who just "sees the picture" in their mind. In my 2+ years of shooting I have been through numerous cameras brands. I finally realized that I wanted a Leica, but I'm sure what it was about it that made me desire it so much. Maybe its the classic look, the seemingly impossible reality of actually affording one, or the simplistic controls. Maybe it is the fact that when you take a good picture it is because you actually took it. You focused the camera, you picked the aperture, the shutter speed, the iso and if you did all those things right the camera rewards you. Any way, enough ramblings, here is one of the first pictures I took with eh M9. It is at a local BBQ joint, Q39, which has the best BBQ I have tasted. If your ever in KC be sure to stop by and try it.

    The Metal Bowl

I took this image whilst shooting on a group shoot at a forge in Portsmouth, England. I used a Leica M9 and 35mm Summarit-M f2.5, and then processed it through Lightroom with very little tweaking. Not quite on the thirds, and the non-vertical black line troubles me a bit, but that is how it was. I hope you like it! Gerry

    Ali

Guarding the local convenience store in the heart of a multi-ethnic community Ali, an immigrant from the Middle East, is proud to be working and contributing to society. Taken with a M9 and 35mm Summarit-M f2.5. Hope you like it! Gerry
