Thank you to everyone who took part in October's Barnack's Monthly theme, which was filled with a wonderful array of over 400 pictures and excellent ideas and interpretations of the theme! Thank you to everyone who helped to make it another successful month and in particular to those people who posted for the first time - I hope you found it an interesting and rewarding experience and I hope it encourages you to share more of your pictures with us! The Barnack's Monthly theme for November 2015 is: Through Glass. This means any picture that's taken through glass or with glass in it since light rays will travel through the glass somewhere, but I'm afraid the glass in the lens you're using doesn't count. Perhaps have a look back through your collection or head out for a shoot looking for interesting subjects through glass. The glass in a mirror counts as does someone else's spectacles or monocle, and drinking glasses, glass beads in a chandelier, plate glass shop windows, portholes, crystal balls, sunglasses, car windscreens - it's entirely your choice so let your imagination run free! It would be a help if you give your picture a title so to help us understand your point of view but it's not compulsory. Members have asked if we'd very kindly name the camera and lens used - if you can remember - because it's interesting to know but, again, it's not compulsory just helpful. The rules are deliberately loose so go out and shoot with this month's theme in mind or start searching back through those pictures you took oh-so long ago that you'd forgotten about and start posting! It doesn't have to be your best ever shot and it's not a competition so you might surprise the rest of us and yourself - it's just about sharing some pictures, seeing others' take on the topic, and enjoying it! Everybody's welcome to contribute, any interpretation, any number of posts, pictures that have been posted on the forum before, any equipment as long as it and the photo complies with the forum's rules of either camera or lens or both made by Leica. Please post freely - especially newcomers and please remember there's no judging or criticism (good or bad) in this thread. So, if you'd like to show your acknowledgement or appreciation that someone has posted their picture then instead of posting a comment please use the "Thanks" button that you can find at the bottom right of every post. Please post away and I look forward to seeing your interesting interpretations of this month's theme. Pete

Thank you to everyone who took part in May's Barnack's Monthly theme, which was filled with a wonderful array of more than 800 pictures and excellent ideas and interpretations of the theme! Thank you to everyone who helped to make it another successful month and in particular to those people who posted for the first time - I hope you found it an interesting and rewarding experience and I hope it encourages you to share more of your pictures with us! The Barnack's Monthly theme for June 2015 is: Odd numbers. This means any picture featuring anything to do with odd numbers. It could be eleven ladies dancing, three French hens, 5 gold rings, a tricycle, Del-boys Robin Reliant, a trifecta at the track, a blue snooker ball, a pawnbroker's sign, a lone gunman, a giraffe 'onesie', three blind mice, a Seven-Eleven store, Friday the Thirteenth, a 21st birthday party, all the threes thirty-three, seventh heaven, 'Revolution Number Nine' by The Beatles, the nine of diamonds, a cat's ninth life, a Cyclops, Number 11 Downing Street, Graham Green's The Thirty-Nine Steps, Channel Nine TV, a singles' bar, 101 Dalmatians, the year 2015, the fifth month, a monocycle, a monopod, a monocle, one-handed, one-sided, oneupmanship, threepenny bits, threefold - it's entirely your choice so let your imagination run free! It would be a help if you give your picture a title so to help us understand your point of view but it's not compulsory. Thank you to everyone who took part in March's Barnack's Monthly theme, which was filled with a wonderful array of over 800 pictures and excellent ideas and interpretations of the theme! Thank you to everyone who helped to make it another successful month and in particular to those people who posted for the first time - I hope you found it an interesting and rewarding experience and I hope it encourages you to share more of your pictures with us! The Barnack's Monthly theme for April 2016 is: "From above, from below" This month's theme is all about where the picture was taken from to (hopefully) enhance the picture presented to the the viewer so it means any picture that is taken from a high angle or from a low angle to the subject. It could be a bird's eye view or a snail's eye view, a picture taken from an aircraft in flight, from the top of a skyscraper, from a hole in the ground, from underwater, from a staircase, from an upper floor, from a lower floor, from a balcony, while crouching down, from a seated position, from a hang glider, from stilts, or while lying down - it's entirely your choice so let your imagination run free! For those who usually shoot at eye level (like me!) this is an opportunity to pick up your camera and get used to shooting from different angles to see the difference it can make. It would be a help if you give your picture a title so to help us understand your point of view but it's not compulsory. Members have asked if we'd very kindly name the camera and lens used - if you can remember - because it's interesting to know but, again, it's not compulsory just helpful. Thank you to everyone who helped to make it another successful month by generously posting their pictures and in particular to those people who posted for the first time - I hope you found it an interesting and rewarding experience and I hope it encourages you to share more of your pictures with us! The Barnack's Monthly theme for May 2017 is: "Darkness" This month's theme is "Darkness", which could be at night or in low light or a subject in the shadows where the light fears to tread. We did a similar theme four years ago and it was very popular so here's an opportunity to dust off and post those shots again or find others that you've taken in the meantime - it might even be an opportunity to re-work pictures you've taken before with all the knowledge you've gained since. "Darkness" could be a star-lit night, dusk by the Danube, a fox in the shadows behind the bins, a bear having a feast behind a dumpster, late-night party-goers straggling home, a church in the moonlight, twilight over Tuscany, dawn over Duckberg, midnight in Marseilles, the gloaming in Glasgow, nightfall in Nigeria, the gloom in Gdańsk, first light in Firenze, daybreak in Detroit, cockcrow in Córdoba, dim light in Dunedin, darkness in Dargaville, blackness in Baghdad, murkiness in Mumbai, shade in Shaolin, sunrise in Sun City, shadows in Shadowlands, aurora in Argentina, evening in El Paso, midday in winter in Reykjavik, a midnight gathering on park benches, crowds leaving the theatre, a street scene in the small hours, a darkroom, the inside of a cupboard, a car in a poorly-lit garage, a Duesenberg in night time - it's entirely your choice so let your imagination run free! It would be a help if you give your picture a title so to help us understand your point of view but it's not compulsory. This will be old hat for you, but I can still get carried away by the mechanical wonder of the original curtain shutter and the incremental improvement it underwent. Please be lenient towards a relative newcomer to LTM innards iPhone slow motion of IIIa timing mechanism: http://www.galerie-elsner.de/video/IIIa.MOV [ The video file is 8 MB, so those on a mobile or on a slow internet connection might refrain from clicking the link ] This is from the original German patent published in 1926 (declared valid as of 1924):

[ I did not find a pertinent thread via forum search; if this is a duplicate question, please be so kind to provide a link, otherwise feel free to answer ] What adapters can be reliably used on the M10 for e.g. a classic LTM Elmar 50 mm in your experience? In older threads (pre M10), the three most widely recommended were - Original Leitz (50mm seems to be a bit scarce on the market) - Voigtländer - CameraQuest/ Rayqual (seem unavailable in Europe) The M10 has been reported to be more finicky with regard to 6 bit coding. Is it also more of a diva with regard to adapters? I have read the caveats about collapsing; now I am looking out for an adapter... Thanks, Mathias

I will be away on 1st of January so I am posting January's theme now but please continue to add posts as normal to December's thread until it is closed. Firstly just a short diversion to acknowledge two of your achievements with the Barnack's Monthly series of threads. December 2015 saw the total number of pictures you have posted in Barnack's Monthly pass 20,000! What a marvelous achievement and thank you so much to everyone who has contributed. December 2015 also saw the number of views of Barnack's Monthly threads by forum members and others pass 500,000, which is an astounding achievement that I can scarcely comprehend. Half a million views. I'd never have thought that this was remotely possible when Pete Taylor, Elansprint72, started Barnack's Monthly in October 2008 (I took over in December 2010 when Pete chose to pursue other interests). And yet here we are, so another huge thank you to everyone for your efforts and contributions! Moderator Pop has very kindly assembled links to all of the past Barnack's Monthly threads as a single archive that can be found here: Barnack's Monthly Index. Thank you, Pop! It could be the dawn light sweeping across the savannah, the dawn light sweeping across Brixton High Road, a black cat in a coal cellar, a white cat in a coal cellar, a white kitten romping in the snow, the sun's rays glinting off crystal, flare trails from a lens, a piano keyboard, shadowy pictures of shadowy people, a black feather, swirls in a Cappuccino, a bar code, the sun's rays piercing a stained-glass window, a spotlight picking out a solitary person or group, a black and white police vehicle, a black cat with white paws, a white blaze on a cart horse's head - it's entirely your choice so let your imagination run free! Pete
