  1. Cosina drops 4 variants of the newest 28mm f/1.5 classic 60-year-old design lens: aluminium, obviously lightweight (250g) and comes in silver and black, and brass (330g), which is solid and heavier and also comes in silver and matte black paint. The latter has a removable focusing pin that fits inside the focusing tab. MFD remains in the classic Voigtlander zone at 0.5m. Hoods are extra. All specs are available on their website. Will you get one? Update by LUF Admin 2024-01-04 Voigtländer just sent me images and specs, you’ll find them here:
  2. We already have a very extensive 'Mandler Magic' topic, but as much I am keen on Mandler's signature look and his contribution to the "Leica glow", there is another very distinguished gentleman in the 'House of Leica' that as a leader of Leica's optical design team since 2002 gave us a bunch of new high performance M-Lenses and pushed the terms FLE, ASPH and APO towards modern Leica perfection. He was the guy that had the balls to say Dr. Mandler's 75mm Summilux 1.4 was his *least* favorite design and went on to "Make Summilux great again" - all the way down to 21mm. Show us some of the "clinical look" of the Peter Karbe magic and do tell what lens he designed is your favorite...
  3. WIDE OPEN ONLY! Please post the images of the amazing original Summilux 50/1.4 ASPH at Peter Karbe's favorite f-stop: wide open.
  4. This awesome 21mm lens with f/1.4 f-stop totally deserves its own thread. The popularity of fast wide M lenses among Leica photographers seems to drop as soon as one drifts away from the optical viewfinder lines of the eternal 28mm / 35mm / 50mm trinity. Leica even went as far as to discontinue its entire 24mm M line of lenses at some point in 2020, including the precious Summilux 24. Yet for reportage, conventions, events, concerts, wedding receptions and people photography, a fast wide angle is usually priceless. What the Summilux 21 f/1.4 offers over other slower (f/1.8 to f/3.4) lenses from the 21mm scuderia (there are not many for the M, although Voigtlander and TTArtisan offer direct competition with same or very similar f-stop) is the incredible separation of the subject from the background, an amazing feature for a wide angle lens. The 21 lux is of course a Karbe masterpiece, Erwin Puts even said in one of his articles that "If you compare the 1.4/21 with the 0.95/50mm you see comparable quality." Please post your images and share your experience with the 21 lux - everything from series VIII/8 filters and other adapted filter solutions to your experience with this light beast in the field and on assignments, preferrably wide open. This is NOT a SEM thread, but a comparison between the two is OK.
  5. How rare are modern silver M wide angle lenses below 35mm? Specifically the Elmarit 21mm f/2.8 ASPH and Elmarit 24mm f/2.8 ASPH? What is the total count of the two? How about Summicron 28 ASPH? The latter is apparently not brass...? How many silver chrome Summilux 28's were made before they were discontinued? Any silver Summilux 24's? Was there ever the SEM 21mm Super-Elmar ASPH f/3.4 in silver? What about Elmar 24 f/3.8 ASPH? I have also seen a silver MATE but no WATE? And the silver Elmarit 28mm f/2.8 ASPH was finished in 775 pieces only?
  6. So much written about the floating element wandering out of alignment and some other focus issues of this lens by many frustrated users goung through two, three, four copies. All the gathered information seems to indicate that these problems were present for samples made somewhere until 2018, so my question is, does the only SILVER special edition 11701 (batch of 300) from February 2020 exhibit any of the much debated woes regarding its FLE or did Leica tighten the tolerance? Proud owners, also paste your pictures of this very rare gem.
  7. The Karbe Lux masterpiece is finally getting a facelift. 11 blades, 45cm close focus, rumored performance tweaks, same ol’ price. (Rumor has it it will be announced next week).
  8. Please post your images at closest focus made with this Karbe gem, the 75mm f2 APO Summicron-M ASPH. It apparently has a similar reproduction ratio (highest at 1:7) to the new close focus Summilux 50 ASPH II 2023 (highest at 1:6.4). I am especially interested in your images with humans (portraits, sensual nudes, whatever you do), but any other subject at close focus will also do fine. Please no 75 lux or 75 Summarit or 75 SL.
  9. I do own all the lenses tested side by side in this video and would 100% agree with Ted Forbes' comparison and summary - The dearly recommended one is the
  10. Could not believe there was no thread for images made with Summicron 35 ASPHERICAL V1 and ASPHERICAL V2 (also known as Summicron V5 and V6). So here it is. Please indicate whether you used ASPH V1 or ASPH V2 and what camera. IMPORTANT NOTE: Please do NOT post any PRE-ASPH Summicron V1 and V2 images and NO APO Summicron V7 images - the latter has its own thread here. Summicron 35 ASPH V1 and M10-R.
  11. There is a new lens in town. This design variant of the Summicron-M 28 f/2 ASPH. features a matte black finish and light green engravings. It has an integrated lens hood which extends via quick twist. The EU price is €4,300.00, just 50 euros more than the regular black anodized version. 12. Hi Guys, Am fairly new to Leica (6 months in) and I would like to seek your advice on which 35mm lens to get. I currently use a M240 body with a 60mm F1.2 Konica Hexanon and a 50mm Summicron APO. I am looking to add a 35mm lens to compliment my existing collection (and will be looking at add a 28mm Elmarit when the new one releases end of the month). I am considering the follow: 35 Summilux Pre-ASPH 35 Summicron Pre-ASPH Version 1 35 Summicron Pre-ASPH Version 4 35 Summicron ASPH (2016 edition) After doing some extensive research, I feel like the 3 Pre-ASPH lens may be a better compliment as it is softer / has more of a leica glow (since my 50mm APO and the 28mm Elmarit are both bitingly sharp)? I was originally going to just get a 28 and 50 and NOT the 35 since it seems to be too close to the other 2 focal lengths, so I am now thinking maybe getting something with more of a unique characteristic). Just wondering what all your thoughts are and why you think so? Your kind assistance is very much appreciated. Thank you. Best Regards, J
  13. Even if most of you are checking Leicarumors.com from time to time, here's is another interesting Leica heritage lens edition: Source: https://leicarumors.com/2020/09/14/this-is-the-new-leica-noctilux-m-50mm-f-1-2-asph-heritage-limited-edition-lens.aspx/#more-68155

Not sure if People section is the right place for these photos...but I can't find "product shots", and I treat my motorbike as my GF~ LOL #1 - V-Rod Muscle + Reality Stone~ #2 - The "fire" was actually my hand lit by the flashlight... by mistake #3 - My friend's bike - Kawasaki ZRX400 #4 - Honda CBR250rr
  15. I recently bought a used "mint" Summilux 35 ASPH FLE and upon receiving it I discovered the inside of the lens to be extremely dusty. Needless to say, I returned it immediately. I do wonder how this could be possible though - the lens was sold to the previous owner in 2016/10 so it's been used for about a year. I just can't believe a one-year-old lens can have this much dust in it. Is there some type of design flaw with the FLE version that makes it prone to dust? I'm thinking about getting a new one so I don't want the lens to be like this after a year...
  16. I recently purchased a brand new unopened 50 summilux f/1.4 asph lens in silver and when I unpackaged it I noticed a clear liquid on the outside barrel of the lens. I was able to wipe it off but wondered what it was? And whether I should exchange the lens for a different one? Inside the lens it looks fine at the moment and not sure if liquid would have seeped inside. Just wandered if anyone had a similar experience. I want to make sure nothing is wrong with the lens since I spent 4K on it.
  17. This might have already been covered somewhere.....but here it is: Since getting the Summilux 35 ASPH FLE (11663), I have been troubled by the inconvenience of switching between shooting with and without the lens hood. In fact I like the lens without the hood, which is shorter. But in very sunny days I really also want to have the lens hood attached. I'm not one of those gutty ppl who can do without a protective filter. hence the problem: Whenever I remove the lens hood, I feel I should attach the thread protector, which can only be done by removing the filter first, as the thread protector has a lip that prevents it from being screwed into place if the filter is attached already. The other day I chanced upon a strange solution, as I looked at my fuji x100 and wondered if its lens hood adapter will actually fit the 11663's exposed outer thread. Well, it does fit. so I have been using it since, as it can be screwed into place with the filter attached to the lens. Sometimes I just use the x100's hood instead, which can be attached and removed easily. You can also flip it and attach it the other way around, which to me looks a bit better: Granted it doesn't look as nice as the Leica thread protector that comes with the lens, but it is indeed more convenient. Oh and...slightly increased finder blockage with the x100's hood, but the difference seems quite negligible.

    Closed for Lunch ?

    Leica T + 50mm f/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH ISO 200, f1.4, 1/125 "Closed for Lunch ?"
  19. I've read one long thread and a few mentions of this phenomenon here on this forum. I'm curious of todays status regarding the rattle issue with this lens. I recently bought a mint in box 35 Lux FLE second hand, the lens is perfect in every way except that it sounds like a rhythm instrument. Mine is a 416xxxx meaning its 2012 produced. It has no back/front focus, It's super sharp wide open at f/1.4 and the focus ring is smooth and nice. The aperture ring is perhaps a little loose, but not bothersome, and about the same as my 50 lux. The sound is only apparent when the lens is moved up and down, not side to side (front element facing upwards) and is surprisingly loud, so loud that if I'm indoors in a silent room i hear it on my hip as i'm walking out. As soon as the ambient noise rise it drowns though. Meaning, it doesn't bother me that much. After researching the matter i understand that Leica has stated that this is normal and that it's the aperture cage that rattles and that this is a part of the design assuring that the lens will function optimally. I also read that different copies are affected differently, some pretty much silent, some rattles with different volume, and some vary depending on f-stop (mine quiets down a little at f/16) Now, in 2016, how many current owners of the Summilux 35 FLE is affected by this? I'm also curious if anyone reading this thread have purchased a new-in-box lens that do/don't rattle. I'm also interested in hearing from members that had the lens CLA'ed with this issue. I heard that Leica can use some shims or similar to mute the rattle if requested.
  20. I have a number of different modern Leica wide angles, fast and slow, on the M240. The one that I struggle with most is a new 28mm Summicron Asph. It has a lovely soft rendering, but often, used wide open or even stopped down, nothing much appears to be sharp, has the micro contrast or bite of the other lenses. I have no doubt that some of this is operator error, camera shake, etc. But it is noticeable in live view that the peaking shows less red than I am accustomed to with other lenses. Is this normal? Any suggestions for testing whether I have a lemon / Friday pm lenses? I know, I should have done some tests, but I am always distracted by something more interesting.
  21. Some photos taken yesterday in Turin downtown. This is the historical palace called "Palazzo di Città" where there is the office of the Major of the city. M7, Summicron-M 35/2 ASPH, Tri-X 400 cheers, Massimo

    The "Pizzardone"

In Italy, but in particular in Rome, the local police man is called "Pizzardone". This one was actually standing outside the Place of the Major of Turin. M7, Summicron-M 35/2 ASPH, Tri-x 400 cheers, Massimo
  23. Hello guys, My question for today: What are aspherical surfaces in lenses, and what do they do exactly?
  24. I just purchased a used Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH from the NYC Leica Store. I got it for a really good deal, basically $1000 off. For some reason it seems to be a bit greasy. Also the glass looked like it had a smudge and I used my lens pen to clean it. It then greased up the front element. What should I do? Return, or just clean? If clean what do you guys recommend.
  25. The price for both of these lenses is similar enough that I'm considering them both.. Actually, what I'm considering is more like this. CZ 35mm Biogon f/2 + CV Nokon 40 1.4 or Nokton 35mm 1.2 ASPH II I need a lens for indoors, when visiting friends, etc.. and I need to to be relatively fast, ~ f/1.4 or so. I'm a big fan of Zeiss, the 50 1.4 on my 5D Mk III was my most used lens. I've read fantastic things about the Biogon f/2 and comparing the sharpness of the Biogon @ f/2 and the Nokton 1.2 @ f/2, they're pretty evenly matched (according to what I read via Sean Reid). Obviously the Biogon isn't that fast, so I was thinking of pairing it with a Nokton 40 1.4 for those indoor uses, while the Biogon would be for mainly outdoor usage (I had also tested an 35mm Ultron 1.7 but it was a bit softer wide-open then I was hoping). I'm picking up an M9 + CZ Planar 50mm f/2 shortly (that decision is finally made!), so unfortunately I do not have a ton of money left over for 35mm.. $1500-$1600 is probably it, so unfortunately any fast Leica's are out of reach. Is there anyone out there who has used both the Nokton 35 1.2 II and the Biogon f/2 and decided to keep one or the other (or has any input on the two?) I realize they have different applications, and I'm a bit worried the Nokton 1.2 might be just a large and unwieldy lens that works great in lower-light situations, but end up being not so useful for an every-day, general 35mm lens. I think the Biogon + Nokton 40 1.4 might be a better combo, but it's almost $400-$500 more. Thoughts, comments, suggestions?
