  1. Hi, I was wondering if we will get a 50 or 70 mm Noctolux but SL Body and AF. Would you love it? Would you buy it? Cheers
  2. Just saw this Nickel Rigid Summar 5cm f2 while browsing for lenses on a shops site, is that front "ring" a hood or part of the lens system?
  3. I am looking for a camera bag to fit the sl with the Vario 24-90 attached and an extra lens like a 50mm sl apo. Feel free to post pictures of your bag and share the name. Thanks in advance.
  4. Hi everyone, I have Leica M6 and Summicron M (V) 50mm. I see that in many of my close up portraits the focus is on the noose, but not on the eyes or oposite.I have focus on one spot of the face and another is missing. I have checked my DOF calculator and I see that if the subject is at 1m from me and I got aperture 2, 2.8, 4 the focus is only in one spot 1m - 1m.If I switch to f/5.6 the focus depth becomes 0.9m -1.1m which is 20cm difference good enough to have all head in focus. Please, share your experience on this matter.
  5. Hello everyone, I just wanted to let you know I published a review of the TTArtisan 50mm 0.95 lens and I think the findings might be interesting for you. I hope you enjoy the reading! Flavio
  6. Hi All, I am sharing my short article few years back when I traveled around France for a month just carrying one body (ME) and one lens (50mm Summilux). It was a regret decision for the fist 1 week but I am enjoying the thrill after that :D. I wonder if you guys have the same experience with just relying on 1 lens for your long trip. https://juliusyls.com/blog/2019/9/11/traveling-around-france-with-50mm-lens-hnglr
  7. Hi everyone, I recently acquired a 50mm Summicron V5 for a pretty good price. I'm loving the performance but am not a fan of the retractable hood and lack of a focusing tab. Because of this I'm considering switching to a V4, which is optically identical but addresses these points. My only concern is for the supposed use of plastic parts in the V4, which I have not heard mentioned in relation to the V5. Is it true that plastic was used in the V4? If so, for which parts? Does the V5 also contain plastic (seems odd to switch to plastic for one generation, then revert back in the next)? I'm also wondering whether the focus tab is plastic, as seems to be the case for all modern Leica lenses. Thanks in advance.
  8. Hi everyone, So I've recently gotten back into the M system with an M2, and am looking for some 50mm glass to go with it. I'd really like to go vintage - I used to shoot a V2 Summicron 50 (which I am a total fool for selling) on my M3 and loved the images, but am not sure whether I can spend that amount again. The qualities I love in vintage glass are flares, halation and artistic bokeh, but I'm not looking for anything too soft or glowy - this would be a general carry around lens, so I don't want its character to ever overshadow the content of pictures. In terms of use, I don't only shoot one thing - when I'm in the city I'll shoot street photos, architecture and friends/family. I also like hiking so I do a bit of nature/landscape. At the moment I'm shooting mainly on 500T but plan to get some Double-X in the future as well. For digital I'll be adapting to a Sigma FP. I'm not a fan of lenses that are too big (heavy I don't mind). I recently bought a Canon LTM 50mm 1.4 which ticks most of my boxes, but I find it too big to take around all the time, especially in terms of front diameter (the lens contained fungus that wasn't initially mentioned, so I'm returning it anyway). I've been considering the Nikkor LTM 50mm F2, but from what I've seen it does indeed get quite glowy and is pretty unusable wide open, despite being better than most other lenses from the 40's/50's. Most tests online don't specify the condition of the lens used or the aperture for specific shots though, so it's hard to form an opinion - if anyone has first hand experience with this model then please let me know! For 35mm I'm probably going with the Canon LTM 35mm F2, so that is a pretty good reference of the look I'm going for. Here are some tests for the 35mm F2 that I found online: http://ohm-image.net/opinion/photophile/review-canon-ltm-m39-35-2 http://rangefinderchronicles.blogspot.com/2012/11/leica-iiif-and-canon-35mm-f2-ltm-part-2.html Sorry for the long post - tried to provide as much info as possible but probably ended up rambling a little bit! Thanks in advance.
  9. someone had posted a pic online, of a summicron 50mm compur version, but i couldn't see it in the LUF wiki..just curious about the lens..anyone know more about it?
  10. I did a direct comparison shot with the following 50mm Leica-M lenses: Summarit 2.5, DR Summicron, Summicron vers. V, APO-Summicron, Summilux V3, Summilux ASPH. All shot at aperture f2 (Summarit at 2.5), focus on infinity, lens hood, M10-P, jpg out of camera. Here’s the whole picture:
  11. Will it even be able to resolve to 60megapixels? Does anyone have any experience with this?
  12. These are my presets I try to memorize in order to achieve good sense of distance and to can shoot with zone focusing with my 50mm M6. What are your zone focusing experience with 50mm film Leica ?
  13. Hi all. Receiving my silver M11 (first-time M user). While I am figuring out what first Leica lens to buy, I would like to buy a couple Voigtlander lenses to get me started. What Voigtlander lenses do you recommend? I know it depends on many factors. Here is what I am looking for. 28mm (or 35mm), 50mm, and 70mm, in not particular order. I looked at the Cameraquest chart, but so confusing. Maybe start with 2lenses, 28mm and a 50mm. Thanks for the advice and feedback i know this is a Leica forum and hoping I don’t upset anyone asking this question here. 😊
  14. Hi Leica lovers, I have a silver MP (purchased in Korea in September 2022, serial starts with 5613xxx). In November, I came to notice that lower line of 50mm frame vanished when attached 50mm summicron for the first time. I had M3 and was using MP with 35mm lens only till that time. When I look into viewfinder in the very center, it is fine. However, with slight downward movement of eyes, the lower line of 50mm frame vanishes - with upward move it remains clearly. 28mm and 35mm frames are clearly visible with same position of eyes. I took it to local Leica seller (Bando, authorized seller in Korea) to check and repair. They replied that it was not a flaw, saying that they communicated to Leica Headquarter in Germany and got the same reply - it is a normal viewfinder status. I don't know how exactly they communicated to Germany. I really can't accept the response as it really vanishes and giving me a hard time to re-position eyes to get exact frame. IMHO, the internal reflection angle from the light in-take window to viewfinder is failing to brighten the lower frame line for 50mm. MP users, please share your experience with 50mm frame line. And will there be a kind of Q&A channel(English) to communicate to Leica service in Germany? Thank you in advance. ---------------------------------------- Here are some pictures that I took with my smart phone camera. I've tested with 50mm summicron, w/o lens, and even holding up-side down - always the same line vanishes. Note that I put camera facing floor to eliminate any possible light interference. A. With 50mm summicron.Note that upper line remains clear edge to edge compared to lower line. B. Without lens. 28mm lines are very clear with all movement C. With 35mm lens. All clear edge to edge.
  15. Hi, I have purchased Summicron M 50mm ASPH brand new. It is with built-in hood.I bought also UV clear filter just for protection of the lens. Unfortunately on some of my latest shots I can see some flares. Any suggestions how to avoid it? I insist on the UV filter, do I have to buy hood for 35mm? I’m surprised that Leica didn’t invent the lens smart enough to work with the filter correctly, meaning w/out need of additional hood.
  16. The person I bought it from said they bought it from a seller in Japan a few years ago. And they got the lens CLA'd (Clean, Lubricate, Adjust) this year. Serial Number: 125167 It weighs 111 grams when there's no caps on it. It has "50mm" instead of "5cm" written on the front of the lens, which it would indicate that it's an earlier model I believe. There's an "o" on the barrel by the focus lever, which would indicate that this is a standardized lens mount. Underneath the focus leaver there's the number 5 (as shown in the picture), I don't know what this means. I think the focus lever is at the 11 o'clock position? I'm not sure how to tell. I tested it and found: 105 cm / 41 inch closest focusing distance. The rear plate has distances in feet. I don't know if Leica sent certain countries a different plate, or if it was replaced by a distributor, or if it was replaced in the decades after it was first sold. Interestingly enough there's no "Germany" or "Made in Germany" that I see on other exported lenses. Full album with more more picture and in higher quality: https://imgur.com/a/bhQcwHI Is this lens legit? Was the rear plate with "feet" replaced by a 3rd party? And is this really 1931 or 1932?
