  1. Dear all I am quite the average photog. Try this, try that, nice Camera, lovely rendering, tele-lenses, wideangles, sunstars with f11, wide open shots, one or the other pretty decent shot. But it all boils down to this: For personal work and for the everyday joy of taking some snaps, I always come back to enjoying my 50mm lens. Sometimes I try to convince myself that using the standard focal lenth is supposed to be "boring", uninteresting field of view and all, so I try out different lenses, different shooting styles... All valid, of course, but I personally love the 50mm lens: - A bit of compression, but not very much so. Perfect for environmental scenes without having too much information in the frame. - Foreground (or background respectively) is not too sharp and overly distracting but still recognizable, especiallly using faster apertures like f2 or f2.8, so it still helps getting a message across. - Street photography with hyperfocal setting and gigantic DOF can produce wonderful results (depends on the ability of the photographer's eye anyhow!) but it's not for me. Can I invite you to share some shots that show a normal lens producing some interesting shots and why? Attached files show pictures taken during a 60 minute stroll at a horse fair with Sony A7ii and old Leica Summicron 50mm f2. English is not my mother tongue; please excuse any errors on my part. Cheers J
  2. Hi, I was wondering if we will get a 50 or 70 mm Noctolux but SL Body and AF. Would you love it? Would you buy it? Cheers
  3. Hi everyone. I'm looking to buy a 50mm f2 Leica M lens. I'm not interested in new, neither on the APO version. I want a very compact lens to go with my Leica M-D and potentially a Monochrome. Any recommendations or advice? I assume that although older, it should be able to resolve the 24 megapixel sensor images. Is that a fair assumptions? Thanks so much.
  4. Just saw this Nickel Rigid Summar 5cm f2 while browsing for lenses on a shops site, is that front "ring" a hood or part of the lens system?
  5. I am looking for a camera bag to fit the sl with the Vario 24-90 attached and an extra lens like a 50mm sl apo. Feel free to post pictures of your bag and share the name. Thanks in advance.
  6. Hi all, I have the worst luck buying Leica gear. Just purchased my 2nd 50 Cron IV on eBay. The seller mentioned haze, and I asked a lot of questions about it, but he really described it as no big deal. Got it today and found a pretty harsh ring of haze (or?) when light is pushed through. Looks decent otherwise, but I paid a competitive price ($950 USD). I really don’t want to go through another eBay return—the seller only mentioned in a DM, where I was asking specific questions about the lens, that he would offer to return for me if I wasn’t happy. I’m a shooter, don’t mind imperfections, but I do like to have nice gear. Was thinking of sending out for a CLA and forget about it. Obviously another $100 that I don’t want to spend, but ugh. what do you guys think? edit: also the small set screws on the aperture ring show a small amount of rust. I was wondering if that might be a sign of what contributed to the optical issue, poor storage perhaps?
  7. Hallo zusammen!
  8. If anyone has experience of using the above lenses and can offer some comparison opinions of using both at full aperture, I'd be interested in your thoughts. TIA.
  9. Apologize to post this late, I was member since 2012 and till recently found my password and login 😅 I wanted to share one of my photograph that won 2nd place the National geographic Travel of he Year 2017 in people category. I shot using Leica ME with 50mm Lux, at Rijks Museum in Amsterdam way back in 2015. I shot twice and the first one obviousely out of focus due to the manual setting, etc.. but the second shot was perfect. I love the visitors expression and lighting that really help this image stand out. I named this shot "Interesting Moment" 😃 Love my ME and the 50mm Lux combination, I never change lens since.
  10. Hi, I want to to know how good are the 50mm crop of the Q2 because I like that kind of prospective... A CL with the TL 35 Summilux 1.4 lens (so 50mm equivalent as is an APSC) is equal or better? Thanks to all who can help me
  11. While I was having coffee at my favourite place this guy was sat running his office over his cup of coffee. "Hi, it's Mike the Magician" he said down the telephone. Sadly the guy at the other end didn't seem to know who he was. I took this candid shot of him with the M240 + 50mm lens at 1600iso. I then processed it through Lightroom Classic. Hope you like it! Gerry
  12. The MS Optics 50mm 1.1 Sonnetar is very fast, noted on the description sheet as being f1.16. Now the MS Optics ISM 50mm 1.0 is available in M mount at only 178 grams. It is noted as f1.05 on the description. So it is only somewhat faster than the Sonnetar. If one already has a Sonnetar 50mm, not sure if they would be interested in this lens. With Gauss type lens it does not have the soonar qualities of the former, but apparently also not the tricky coma adjustment ring. 16 rounded aperture blades. Looks interesting though for digital or film, https://www.japancamerahunter.com/20...f-1-0-m-mount/
  13. Hi. Need to open burnished doublet of Summitar 50mm f2.0 lens, then clean and re-cement doublet. If you like fun projects, this is the Winner!! Leica do I hear you responding? Anyone know of who can do this? Photos of opened Summitar Lens: http://rangefinderforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2570890&postcount=54 Note: Tried boiling Front Lens Group to open the outer ring housing containing the doublet. Now, need to CLA lens: reapply anti-reflective paint / front lens coating. Reference: Boiling Lens - http://tinyurl.com/z93tt2b Glass is super clean now - except for the doublet that has white splotches from melted balsam.

    Guitar

This Christmas I took my m9 to our family gatherings with the aim of getting some family portraits to celebrate the occasion. My teenage nephew is at the stage where he refuses to have his picture taken though. So rather than a smiling picture under the tree I managed to persuade him to have a picture taken with his one true love. His Les Paul guitar. On the condition I did not take any pictures of his face. I think he liked it from the grunts he made. Finlay by Robert Michael Poole, on Flickr

  16. Happy halloween! Carved by my very talented wife. We've even bought sweets for the trick or treaters this year rather than closing the curtains and hiding like normal. Happy Halloween! by Robert Michael Poole, on Flickr

  20. I wasn't sure if this classed as street or just people so I put it here to be safe. Another shot from my trip to the Christmas markets in Manchester last weekend. We bought a lovely set of nutcracker Christmas tree decorations from this market stall and I managed to snap this quick photo whilst my wife was queuing to pay. C/C always welcome. 21. I recently got one Nikkor S.C 5cm f1.4 lens. It took me three adapters to make it work on my Sony A7 - the Nikon-Leica thread mount, the LTM to M mount and the Leica M to Sony NEX mount. Not too difficult and lucky that the focus is still correct after the stack of adapters. I have put other pictures at BigBigLens.com - Nikkor. I only started street photography a few month ago. I need critical comments.
  22. Hello everyone, I was lucky to have find this original 1950's Voigtlander Nokton 50mm 1.5. Can anyone tell what's the value of this vintage gem? I almost find no info on value from this original version. Thank you
  23. Hi Guys, I am a restaurant operator and I love shooting food when I visit nice restaurants, and I would like to seek your advice regarding taking food shots with a Leica M. I currently use my Nikon D800 + a 50mm F2 Zeiss Makro-Planar to shoot when I go to a restaurant (please note I visit them as a diner, not a paid photographer). However, I would like to explore the capability of taking food photos with my Leica M. I currently own an M240 along with a 50mm APO Summicron lens, a 35mm 8-element Summicron lens, and a 60mm F1.2 Konica Hexanon lens (however I would like to use my 50APO in this scenario due to its sharpness. The 50APO has a 0.7m minimal focusing distance, which is not close enough if I wish to shoot say a piece of sushi. My current setup with the 50mm Zeiss macro lens enables me to get as close as 0.3m to the subject. Furthermore, in a nice restaurant, even with a longer lens, it is rude to move all the way backwards (say a 100mm macro lens) to shoot my food, also a reason I went with a 50mm macro. So I am just wondering whether a macro adapter would help solve my problem. I heard from a friend that with an adaptor, I can only shoot within a particular range from the subject (say for example only from 0.3 to 0.4m from the subject), but this really limits what kind of food I shoot (say a small piece like a sushi, or a large plate of pasta). So I would really appreciate if someone who has experience in this area can help me out. Since I would wish to continue using my 50APO, would a macro adaptor help? And in what range (distance wise) would I be able to shoot if I added an adaptor? Also someone suggested I could also consider using my Zeiss (Nikon mount) on my Leica M with an adaptor, would that work? Would it impact the quality of the photo? Ideally I would wish to use my 50APO on my M to shoot food as I spent quite a lot on this lens and body. Appreciate if someone can help me out. Thanks and regards, J
  24. 100 t-max, M3, 50mm Zeiss People who have travelled to, or seen images of Shinto shrines in Japan will know about Ema...small wooden plaques on which you can write a wish to the kami/gods. It's common during the New Year's holiday to write your wish for the year. The first picture below is context for those who have not seen Ema. I've seen thousands of these, and wishes range from the cure for a loved-one's cancer, to a plea that Liverpool will win the Premier League. The other day, I randomly selected and turned over one Ema. As I slowly read, (shooting film seems to slow down everything I do), I thought it a bit ironic. "If his tests include English spelling, he will surely need to study more." Says I, the parent of a 6 yr old. .....but then I got to the last sentence.
  25. I updated my 50mm APO article with a section about purple fringing and how to remove it in Lightroom from Noctilux and other lenses. Enjoy! "What is Purple Fringing in Leica lenses?"
