I will be getting a Leica M9-P that comes with a 50mm Summicron. From what i've read the next best lens would be the 35mm Summilux ASPH FLE. Just wanted to get some opinions as well as any new user tips or ideas to boot. I want to start out with both as I know they will last a long time with proper maintenance and care and from what i've read 35mm is the best focal length to start shooting with. Worst case scenario I'll be able to re-sale fairly easily. - Davy

So, I've been eyeing a fast 35mm option, and after looking through the entire 35mm shots thread, I'm convinced I like the Zeiss 35mm f1.4 Distagon ZM way more than the FLE. For example: and There seems to be a busy-ness to the FLE's bokeh in a way that the Distagon just does not show/represent. The runner up in my eyes is the 35mm f2.8 C-Biogon for rendering transitions from in focus to not in focus, and I'm really starting to wonder: is this the Zeiss look? I feel like I'm supposed to like the Leica rendering more, but... I'm convinced the lens at 1/2 the price is the better lens. Am I the only one?- 37 replies

I have a dear friend who is ailing and selling his Leica kit. Among the goodies is a pre ASPH 35mm titanium, German-made, 1.4 lens. I want to purchase the lens and want to offer him a fare market value. I've done a bit of searching and see the going rate to be around $1500. I'm just wondering if anyone can share any insight. The lens is in good shape. (I currently have a 35mm ASPH 'lux, but like the vintage aspect to this lens, as well as it's compact size.) Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated. For what it's worth, the lens will be used on my MP for largely black and white work. Thanks in advance

I was fortunate to spend three days in Havana, Cuba. I took with me a Leica M9 and a 35mm summilux. In the following link, you can see my Havana documentary photography and a personal account of this experience. As I mentioned before, I fell in love with the angle of view of this lens in the full frame M9. I truly think this can be my lens for 90% of my uses. Feedback welcome, as always.
