I read a good deal about how averse people are in Marrakech's Old City/Medina to having their picture taken. So when my wife and I spent a week in Marrakech last week, I took along my M10, but swapped out the 35mm Summilux Asph for the old Summicron. It is smaller and therefore more discreet. I knew it would work well with the tile and other architectural and decorative work, given that it is, well, the King of Bokeh. Nonetheless, I was once again blown away by what an incredible lens it is at f/5.6 or 8. Yes, some of the images might be a little soft, at least compared to the tack-sharp Summilux. But this was a situation where the lens was right for the circumstances. I'd say I lost, at most, 10 shots due to the softness at the edges. Last point: All of the inanimate objects were shot with the M10 held to my eye. But virtually all of the street shots of people were shot from the hip -- either cupped in the palm of my hand and held at stomach level, or when shooting vertically, rested with the top of the camera/shutter trigger at my chest. If you like these images, and I hope you do, blame user error for things displeasing, but remember that a fair bit of the composition was accidental, given I wasn't using the viewfinder. I already posted some of these in the Film and Mountains thread but I figured they might be worthy of an own thread. Taken on Portra 160 with a Leica M6 + 35mm Summicron IV

The Olympic torch went past not long before I took this shot. He's now on the Cobb (stone structure in the photo) amongst the people down there.

This is Michiel P, a painter and close friend of mine. A couple of months ago I made this portrait of him. In return he painted a wonderful portrait of me with my M9 (my avatar). And I thought it'd be nice to share the picture here and read your comments. The painting of the sneakers in the top left corner is his. It somewhat gives you an idea of his artistic 'style'. He is inspired by simple everyday objects, but tries to paint them in a fairly objective and estranging way. That is why I wanted him to look 'objectified' too. I also thought it was the perfect painting to portray him with because it's such a recognizable symbol if you know him. He always wears sneakers. Especially these, they were on his feet for years. The picture was taken with an M9 and 35mm summicron. I took it in his attic studio, with natural light, but put up a silver reflector on the right hand side, to soften the shadows. The other pictures from this shoot are on my tumblr-blog, click here And if you are interested in Michiel's work, have a look at his tumblr-blog. Thank you.

I spent my Easter weekend in Milan, visiting a friend who's working there on a doctoral project at the local University. He's only been there for two weeks and hadn't really been around the city himself. So, we went out exploring together. And I took my camera with me, obviously. One of the sites we visited is the 'Cimitero Monumentale', not far from the Garibaldi train station. A beautiful site, grotesquely eclectic at times, but all in all very refined. I am not religious myself, but I do like the quietness of a beautiful cemetery. Even one as 'grand' as this one makes my mind ponder. I'd like to share some pictures with you that portray this special place. They were taken with an M9 and 35mm Summicron. There are more photos on my blog: here. All comments are welcome. Thank you for watching.

I'm ready to buy a 35mm lens for my M9 if and when they become available again. I am somewhat mystified, though, about the many comments about the latest Summicron being unsuited for the M9 because of it's higher contrast. I would love to see some side-by-side comparisons between the 35mm Summicron-Asph and the 35m Summicron (which seems to be universally praised in this forum).

Just got back from a trip to Venice and spent some time wandering around after dinner enjoying the dim Venetian light. I was testing an 35mm Summicron Version III, what a beauty. Thank god Leica is going back to metal hoods. Venice can be a tricky place to take pictures. Venetians are camera shy, there are so many cliches, and it can be difficult to get a wide shot with a group tour. Here are a few of the highlights. Best-Adam Adam Marelli Photo
