  1. Cosina drops 4 variants of the newest 28mm f/1.5 classic 60-year-old design lens: aluminium, obviously lightweight (250g) and comes in silver and black, and brass (330g), which is solid and heavier and also comes in silver and matte black paint. The latter has a removable focusing pin that fits inside the focusing tab. MFD remains in the classic Voigtlander zone at 0.5m. Hoods are extra. All specs are available on their website. Will you get one? Update by LUF Admin 2024-01-04 Voigtländer just sent me images and specs, you’ll find them here:
  2. Hello, Does anyone know whether the M11-P black version dips over with a 28 Summicron ASPH. (V2, 0.7m minimum focusing distance, material 11672) mounted while standing on a table (Including lens hood) with focus tab set to infinity? Thanks in advance
  3. Hi, I have purchased a new lens Elmarit M 28mm it is on the way.Till now I had only 50mm Summicron which I use on my M6 Classic. I need advices about what focus distance you set for zone focusing. This is the chart, I mainly will need 1.5 - infinity or to 17 m.From the chart I thing when I’m on f/8 3mm focus gives me best focus space. What you preset on f/5.6 f/4 f/2.8? At what distance usually your subjects are, I’m talking about street photography and film only!
  4. Hi, I have Leica M6 Classic and I have only one lens - Summicron M 50 (V5). Nifty fifty is my preferable focal length and this particular lens is perfect for me.Despite of this I feel the need to have another wider lens for some particular occasions - when walk in stretch streets and want to catch wider space, buildings, but mainly would give a try it for street phototherapy of people. Is there somebody else who started with 50mm lens and bought as second lens 28mm? I wrote here, because I’m interested mainly the feedback from analog users.
  5. Apologies if there are similar threads to this one - I haven't been able to find answers to my questions specifically. I recently sold my M3 since I'm looking for a body that accommodates wider lenses and has a hotshoe. I don't need a built in meter and am on a budget, so I wouldn't consider the M6. I also find the M5 too bulky, so this leaves the M4-2 and M4-P. I will mainly be shooting 28mm and 35mm lenses, so the M4-P seems ideal since it provides framelines for both. My first question is therefore whether the extra cost is warranted for 28mm framelines, or if I should opt for an M4-2 and use the entire viewfinder to approximate the 28mm focal length. Also, since there are few "user condition" examples of both models available online, I'm wondering how reliable the hotshoe is on these cameras - I use flash a lot and problems in this department would be a total dealbreaker for me. Would it make a tangible difference to opt for a late M4-P, or is it safe to assume that the hotshoe will function well in most cases regardless of model or year? My instincts tell me the M4-P is the ideal camera, but since there are a few M4-2's available for very attractive prices, I'm hoping someone can convince me otherwise!
  6. I have a question about choosing the right 28 mm M lens for landscape photography. If it has been asked in other posts already, I apologise in advance. Background I have decided to buy a 28mm for my M240. It will be used for landscape photography almost exclusively. For the first time in my life, I am leaning towards an Elmarit ASPH. However, I always have this nagging inner voice telling me, that Summilux and Summicron are the only ways to go no matter the situation. So before buying, I want to make sure that I will not be compromising on any key aspects important to me with an Elmarit. And since I live in a place where trying different lenses before buying is not an easy alternative, I turn to all you skilled Leica experts in here for advice. My needs I will be shooting at apertures between f/8 - f/11 most of the time. And I will only rarely be focusing on objects very close. So I am not that concerned about bokeh (which I guess is not that relevant for a wide-angle lens anyway). The same thing goes for color rendering, since I’m shooting digital and will be postprocessing the RAW files anyway. However, I am very interested in achieving good sharpness from corner to corner. And I am also concerned about the handling of lens flare. Question Do you think the Elmarit ASPH will be the right choice for my purpose? Or will the 28mm Cron or Lux in any of their incarnations perform noticeably better under the above circumstances? Reading lots of reviews, both the Cron and the Lux obviously outperforms the Elmarit for low light situations. But will there be differences in image quality, sharpness and flare handling when stopping down to f/8 - f/11? Any input will be much appreciated. Thanks! - Peter.
  7. Hey guys, I’ve just purchased this lens for a good price. To make the long story short, it has some bubbles on the back element. I don’t have now the possibility to shoot on a digital camera but I will wait the results of my films soon. do you know what those bubbles are? I think that I will send this lens to a repair center ASAP.
  8. Sharing my short blog about taking Leica ME and Elmarit 28mm across Arctic circle in the middle of winter. Hope you all enjoy it https://juliusyls.com/blog/2020/12/15/across-arctic-circle-with-28mm-elmarit
  9. Here is an interesting discussion on the 28mm vis-à-vis 35mm lens for documentary photography: Focal Length Feud: 28mm vs 35mm for Telling a story – by David Babaian and Simon King https://emulsive.org/articles/focal-length-feud-28-35 I have used both and at the end of the day it seems to me that either will work well, if you are willing to fine tune your shooting technique for each lens. Thoughts?
  10. Hi everyone, I use Leica M6 with 50mm Summicron. I need a 28mm lens and I’m hesitating among Elmarit M 28mm and Zeiss ZM 28mm Biogon.I have seen many reviews and my inclinations are to Elmarit.I really like the newest small version, but is too expensive. I have read that there is some problem with 3rd version, is this true? Is the difference between 3rd and 4th version so big? what are tour recommendations? Please, my question is only about these two brands, no Voigtlander, 7Artissian etc
  11. There is a new lens in town. This design variant of the Summicron-M 28 f/2 ASPH. features a matte black finish and light green engravings. It has an integrated lens hood which extends via quick twist. The EU price is €4,300.00, just 50 euros more than the regular black anodized version. 12. Hi everyone, I just got a used 28mm Summicron lens for my M6. To my surprise, the images came out slightly blurry and without the sharpness I would of expected? I also have a 35mm Leitz Summaron, which is my control lens and is indeed sharp. Yes, I develop and scan the film, and hadn't had this problem in the past. Any suggestions? Here's an image with my 28mm:
  13. Hi all. Receiving my silver M11 (first-time M user). While I am figuring out what first Leica lens to buy, I would like to buy a couple Voigtlander lenses to get me started. What Voigtlander lenses do you recommend? I know it depends on many factors. Here is what I am looking for. 28mm (or 35mm), 50mm, and 70mm, in not particular order. I looked at the Cameraquest chart, but so confusing. Maybe start with 2lenses, 28mm and a 50mm. Thanks for the advice and feedback i know this is a Leica forum and hoping I don’t upset anyone asking this question here. 😊
  14. Hello Everyone, I'm talking about one of my favourite focal lenght, 28 mm. I'm loving it for street for sure, but also for landscape. I really want to know if for landscape purpose there any appreciable difference betwenn 28 mm elmarit and 28 mm summicron. I mean, for landscape i usually shot at f 8 or something like that, I would like to shoot on m10, and the most important thing in this kind of photo for me is sharpness. Is the price difference worth ? Can anyone post some landscape photos taken with both lenses? Thank you all and have a nice day, Paolo
  15. Hi, does somebody own a Leica Summicron-M 1:2/28 Edition "Safari" or has seen real life pictures? I’d love to see additional pictures of the lens except the one official photography that’s spread all over the web.
  16. Hey everyone, I wanted to create a bit of a fun competition. Given the scary times we are all living in, Halloween this year will be spent in our homes and probably there wont be any trick or treaters. That is why its a perfect opportunity to share your “scariest” shots. These can be shots of scary subjects, scary edits or simply creepy shots you have taken. Rules: Must be taken with 28-35-50-75-90mm lens One post per person (if you are going to post a second one please specify on the second post that it is indeed a second post) All type of photography is allowed Winners will be picked by the amount of likes on individual posts (I’m open to suggestions If you have any) Good competition to everyone cant wait to see your best shots.
  17. here are the thoughts of two photographers on 28mm vs. 35mm for documentary photography. There is nothing "wrong" with the 35mm; for some reason, the 28mm focal length produces images that are more three dimensional looking to my eye. For that reason, I am drawn to the 28mm focal length. I think of my 28mm Elmarit as my documentary lens and my 35mm Summicron as my all-arounder. https://emulsive.org/articles/sharing-my-contact-sheets-india-snapshots-all-xa-all-colour?utm_source=EMULSIVE+Daily+and+Weekly+Newsletters&utm_campaign=e7c973b9ea-RSS_DAILY_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c4b55b017a-e7c973b9ea-174834361
  18. By first Leica was the Q. Sold it when I stepped into the world of M but then last December rebought a Q2. I always said that 28mm is too wide for me, and that to me that’s a negative of the Q. My main fl 50mm, and second the 35mm. So I thought. This weekend I shot a small reportage (didn’t do this for a long time) and I took my SL plus 35/135mm combo. I was very surprised to find out that 35mm was too tight. Maybe 28mm is not that bad at all? Back in the old days I shot weddings with the contax g1, with a 28/45/90 set, so may be this is why I unconsciously still am used to 28mm when telling stories…
  19. Hello All. I have a Summicron 28mm 2.0 Aspherical Lens. The model on the lens is "4068358" Does anyone have info about this specific version? Thanks, Michael
  20. The Royal Palace in Aranjuez, Spain. M240, 28mm Elmarit-M ASPH.
  21. My 1st M6 film shot, here goes with analogue!
  22. I already have a 21 CV, 35 Cron ASPH, 50 Cron, 85 Zeiss, 135 Elmar. However I use the 35mm almost all the time. I like the versatility of a 35mm and I hate changing lenses while on the field. Lately, I enjoyed shooting landscape, and I'm thinking of getting a wider lens than 35mm. Main question: Is it practical to have a 28mm despite already having a 35mm? Subquestion: Given my lens line up, I'm considering the 28mm Elmarit ASPH 2.8 or should I get the CV 15mm heliar III?
  23. Fotografiere mehrheitlich Landsachaften. Nun möchte ich ein 28mm Objektiv anschaffen. Die Frage ist welches? Elmarit oder Summicron. Ich denke ich mehme das mit dem besseren Mikrokontast. Gibt es hier Unterschiede?
