  1. Cosina drops 4 variants of the newest 28mm f/1.5 classic 60-year-old design lens: aluminium, obviously lightweight (250g) and comes in silver and black, and brass (330g), which is solid and heavier and also comes in silver and matte black paint. The latter has a removable focusing pin that fits inside the focusing tab. MFD remains in the classic Voigtlander zone at 0.5m. Hoods are extra. All specs are available on their website. Will you get one? Update by LUF Admin 2024-01-04 Voigtländer just sent me images and specs, you’ll find them here:
  2. Hello, Does anyone know whether the M11-P black version dips over with a 28 Summicron ASPH. (V2, 0.7m minimum focusing distance, material 11672) mounted while standing on a table (Including lens hood) with focus tab set to infinity? Thanks in advance
  3. Hi, I have purchased a new lens Elmarit M 28mm it is on the way.Till now I had only 50mm Summicron which I use on my M6 Classic. I need advices about what focus distance you set for zone focusing. This is the chart, I mainly will need 1.5 - infinity or to 17 m.From the chart I thing when I’m on f/8 3mm focus gives me best focus space. What you preset on f/5.6 f/4 f/2.8? At what distance usually your subjects are, I’m talking about street photography and film only!
  4. Hi, I have Leica M6 Classic and I have only one lens - Summicron M 50 (V5). Nifty fifty is my preferable focal length and this particular lens is perfect for me.Despite of this I feel the need to have another wider lens for some particular occasions - when walk in stretch streets and want to catch wider space, buildings, but mainly would give a try it for street phototherapy of people. Is there somebody else who started with 50mm lens and bought as second lens 28mm? I wrote here, because I’m interested mainly the feedback from analog users.
  5. Just wanted to share my first impressions of the mini 28mm f5.6 summaron lens: I wanted to get this lens for street photography ever since it came out and finally pulled the trigger. I was a little skeptical of its output having seen both good and bad shots on reviews with the lens, but wanted first hand experience and to finally scratch that 28mm daido moriyama itch. After the opening a nice black box and admiring this silver jewel for a moment in my hand, I quickly attached it to M10 and went searching for some test shots on a clear but cloudy day. I shoot my film M/A at f5.6 on bright sunny days so wasn’t worried by its lack of low light capabilities. The reverse position of the focusing tab takes some getting used to, really not very hard, and for closer subjects you need to take a step back than what is normal for other lenses, as you need more distance to bring things in focus. But from the moment I started snapping away I felt the same wonder and joy that you do with other Leica lenses. After an hour or so of taking photos this is what I noticed most: the center of this lens is very sharp but not in a clinical way; there is a smoothness to images; some shots do not produce vignetting but some do which, gives it the “classical” feel and really sets off objects in a cool way; its kind of an unpredictable lens which i like and comes down to personal preference; color accuracy was very good and no different than my 50mm summilux & 35mm summicron; the size of the lens is perfect for adding a 3rd lens to my small leather street bag. Overall, I’m very pleased with my decision to get this lens. Not only imbued with a piece of Leica history but also very capable of producing cool images in daylight conditions. I personally think this is one of those special lenses to own that captures unique qualities rather than the clinical kind you find everywhere else. Unlike, with other leica lenses where i expected images to be great, i was expecting this one to be less so, but was proven wrong. It really is a great little lens and has exceeded my expectations. Thank you Leica for making this!
  6. My 1st M6 film shot, here goes with analogue!
  7. The Royal Palace in Aranjuez, Spain. M240, 28mm Elmarit-M ASPH.
  8. Hello All. I have a Summicron 28mm 2.0 Aspherical Lens. The model on the lens is "4068358" Does anyone have info about this specific version? Thanks, Michael
  9. Hi all, a brief announcement that I’ve just finished work on my second self-published book of photographs. Captured with the M Typ 262 and 28mm Elmarit-M (version IV) during a week’s travels through the North of Italy, the book presents 32 black and white photographs ranging in subject matter from people to places both natural and constructed. I’m really proud of how this project has turned out. The book is printed on thick 170gsm uncoated stock, with the covers being an even heavier 300gsm. The size is somewhere between compact to standard at A5 (210x148mm), which gives each print enough room to breathe without feeling cramped. Also exciting is that, working with a professional printer who works at reasonable prices, I’ve been able to price the book at just £15 + shipping. For those who are curious to know a little more, I’ve written a bit more on the back-story on my blog. You can also watch a trailer that I produced for the book here. Finally, if you’d like to pick up a copy, please slide on over to my online shop to do so. Thanks kindly for your interest, and happy shooting!
  10. What is the story on this lens? Not much to read and review about it ... see it is a reboot ... I want a wide angle lens for a different look and wondering if this is the one?

Leica M8.2, Elmarit M Vers. II, 28mm, F2,8 Gruß Oliver
  13. Some time ago I started a blog (www.mbphotox.wordpress.com) about adapted 50mm lenses on my Canon DSLR. A Leica 50 was on my wishlist for half a year and when I finally went out to buy one, I came home with an Elmarit-R 135mm f/2.8 because the Cron had been picked up by another guy right before I arrived at the store. A few months later, I found a great offer online and bought an Elmarit-R 28mm and finally also the Summicron-R 50mm I had been looking for. Having three lenses, I figured "why not get back into shooting film?", and so I started looking for a suitable Leica R body. The SL2 was not an option since all my lenses are R-only, and the R6 was simply too damn expensive. R3 to R5 it was.. I stumbled upon this expensive offer that had been online for weeks, by a guy who wanted to sell his pristine Summicron-R 90mm together with a near-mint Leica R5... I ended up talking him down by 20% and bought the package Loaded a roll of Superia 200 last night and am looking forward to the results. Here are some pics (more can be found on the blog) The baseplate shows slight signs of wear, the brass shines through at some areas, but other than that it's perfect. My lenses, without the 90mm, I've still got to take pictures of that one. But it only arrived 2 days ago.
  14. I took these photographs in Paris last Thursday, 12th November 2015, with a 28mm Summicron and Monochrom (v.1).
  16. I just came back from a very nice backpacking trip and carried my M240 with just two lens. Cron ASPH 28 and Macro Elmar M 90. I have settled on this combo as my backpacking lens set. This is just three and a quarter pound combo with one extra battery and a lens pouch. Pretty light compared to anything out there equivalent. I didn't even feel it in my entire trip... not in the full 40lb backpack, nor in the light and fast summit backpack. I shot around 250 pics with 60% battery remaining. 28mm remained as my go to lens most of the time. It is perfect for any beautiful scenary and allows me to shoot fast without too much concern for framing. Aperture f2 helps me to get those nice campground shots in low light evening and campfire night shots. I changed to 90mm some times to get tight shots of the scenery and full body shots of my hiking buddies. I also used it to get multiple shots for stitching giving me 50MP picture of the scenery easily for few nice ones. Here are few pics: #1 View of Mt Whitney (14,505ft) in the center from Mt. Langley (14,026ft) using 28mm. Mt Whitney is the highest mountain in the contiguous United States. Before I had Leica (I had Canon gear), it was unthinkable for me to carry a high res camera with a sharp lens on this kind of trips. #2 Closeup of Whitney using 90mm (cropped heavily). I was amazed to see the hut on the peak. You can even make out few hikers (one immediately left of the hut and others on the right towards the drop. 90mm Macro Elmar M is sharp !! You can read about the hut here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smithsonian_Institution_Shelter. #3 Sierra bighorn sheep on a lifeless landscape using 90mm. We were threatened by the afternoon thunderstorm and rushing down as fast we could. You can see dark clouds behind the ridge. suddenly we spotted these animals running across the landscape. They are at the bottom on a smoother soil. These are endangered animals with only 500 in the wild. I simply pulled the camera and fired many shots focused to infinity keeping at f4 to get as fast shutter speed as possible. #4 Crop of the above to show how sharp it is at f4. I could even identify the animal from the crop. Now I just need more wall space to hang huge prints.
  17. Hello guys, Leica Lab Italy asked me some questions about the use of the 28mm lens in my Street Photography. If interested that is the link: http://www.walkingphotographer.net/blog/leica-lab-interview-28 bye !

  19. Hello Leica M shooters! I am an architect and photographer. My current kit of Leica lenses are: Super Elmar 21mm: mostly used for architectural shots! Summilux 50mm ASPH: my standard lens Macro-Elmar 90mm: My short tele I would like to add one lens between my current: 21mm and 50mm lenses. I feel a significant distance between 21 and 50... I am looking a better complement for my Summilux 50mm. I love the 21mm for architectural shots as I say, but is not faster enough, for shooting internal spaces, when there is not possibility of using tripod, like museums, temples, galleries, for example. I like the 1,4/50 a lot! I call it: "my magic lens" because of the representation and bokeh. The 90 mm is my last addition! I am very happy with it. I use for shooting selective frames on landscapes and cities. I had an 35mm Summicron but I sold it, for my, 35mm was very close of the 50mm, because of this I am thinking in a 28mm lens… as a "ALL PURPOSE" complement of the 50! The use of 21 and 90mm lens, is for special-purpose. I would like to read your advices and recommendations! According with my explanation: What is better option: Summilux 28mm or Summicron 28mm lens? Thank you! Ricardo
  20. I already have a 21 CV, 35 Cron ASPH, 50 Cron, 85 Zeiss, 135 Elmar. However I use the 35mm almost all the time. I like the versatility of a 35mm and I hate changing lenses while on the field. Lately, I enjoyed shooting landscape, and I'm thinking of getting a wider lens than 35mm. Main question: Is it practical to have a 28mm despite already having a 35mm? Subquestion: Given my lens line up, I'm considering the 28mm Elmarit ASPH 2.8 or should I get the CV 15mm heliar III?

  22. Wondering if other 28 Lux owners have come across this problem: play in the focusing ring that results in a 'dead spot' when switching focus direction. My copy of the lens currently has about 3mm play where I can move the focusing ring left-right, in the focusing directions, but it does not result in any change of focus (doesn't engage the helicoid). The ring feels entirely disconnected before it pushes against something underneath it. If I keep turning the ring once it 'engages' it then changes the focus as it should. It also moves freely in the north-south directions (if focusing is east-west). Recently I noticed a faint rattling sound of something like a loose small screw or ball bearing when changing the orientation of the lens. This happened all within the span of about a day a little while ago and have kept using the lens, in part due to reluctance to be without it for up to two months for servicing. Initially it was a very slight wobble that was annoying enough on its own, but quickly got much worse with the much greater and more annoying dead spot, as mentioned, of about 3mm. While I'm not the gentlest with my gear, I don't recall any specific incident that may have damaged the lens. I'm the second owner of this copy, received in nearly mint condition back in June 2016, and have used it fairly regularly since then. I thought it might be bad luck but this has now also happened to a friend's copy (that I have not touched ), which seems too coincidental...
  23. I just love the 28mm Elmarit ASPH II. Can't find an image thread for this wonderful lens, hence this thread. Feel free to post
  24. First of all, hey y’all. This is my first post on the Leica forums. I’ve been a photography hobbyist for a while now and have been browsing the last few months for what I think would be my perfect camera set-up to start saving up for. After quite a few weeks learning the ins and outs of pretty much every camera body under the sun, I think I’ve finally settled on the M3. I love the all-mechanical body, the brass casing, and the quiet shutter—so far I only have one concern. My focal length of choice is 28mm, and occasionally 35mm. Does anyone have much experience using 28mm glass with an M3 body? I am not opposed to using an external viewfinder, but I’m worried that it would sort of interrupt the pure, smooth, and ‘invisible’ sort of experience I’m hoping for with a Leica. I know Joel Mererowitz used wider focal lengths back in the 60s and 70s, does anybody know if he was using an external viewfinder or if he just knew his machine well enough to estimate?
