  1. I have a number of different modern Leica wide angles, fast and slow, on the M240. The one that I struggle with most is a new 28mm Summicron Asph. It has a lovely soft rendering, but often, used wide open or even stopped down, nothing much appears to be sharp, has the micro contrast or bite of the other lenses. I have no doubt that some of this is operator error, camera shake, etc. But it is noticeable in live view that the peaking shows less red than I am accustomed to with other lenses. Is this normal? Any suggestions for testing whether I have a lemon / Friday pm lenses? I know, I should have done some tests, but I am always distracted by something more interesting.
  2. Hi everyone, I just got a used 28mm Summicron lens for my M6. To my surprise, the images came out slightly blurry and without the sharpness I would of expected? I also have a 35mm Leitz Summaron, which is my control lens and is indeed sharp. Yes, I develop and scan the film, and hadn't had this problem in the past. Any suggestions? Here's an image with my 28mm:
  3. Hello Everyone, I'm talking about one of my favourite focal lenght, 28 mm. I'm loving it for street for sure, but also for landscape. I really want to know if for landscape purpose there any appreciable difference betwenn 28 mm elmarit and 28 mm summicron. I mean, for landscape i usually shot at f 8 or something like that, I would like to shoot on m10, and the most important thing in this kind of photo for me is sharpness. Is the price difference worth ? Can anyone post some landscape photos taken with both lenses? Thank you all and have a nice day, Paolo
  4. I bought this lenses last month, and today I realize that it is red scale, but I cant find anything about 28 Summicron Red Scale. So, does anyone know about this, please let me know. Thanks a lot.
  5. I have the 28mm f2 Summicron. It is a very nice lens to use on an M7 or M8, but the big boxy lens hood or lens shade is sort of klunky and obscures the lower right corner of the viewfinder to an unpleasant extent. So I am going to begin using it without the hood, but with a UV filer to provide physical protection. My question is: How much will the performance of the lens be affected by not having the hood in place? I know the theories about flare, but in practice how much of a problem do the members think there will be in end results?
  6. I have a silver .72 M7 and use many lenses on it, like 35mm Summicron, 50mm Summilux, 75 and 90mm Summarits. Recently I got the latest 28mm Summicron (the digitaly coded version) and I am having problems to attach that lens to the M7. What happens is that it does not click like other lenses and the small tab which is supposed to hold the lens on the camera is not really keeping it from rotating it. That is I can take off the lens from the body without pressing the lens release button. Now the same lens clicks and holds perfectly on an M8 I also have. Anyone else experienced the same issue? thanks Miklos
  7. I've been dreaming of owning a Leica M for many years, and when the M9 was announced I thought it might finally be time. But the M9 and couple of lenses is going to cost way more than I can afford. I considered for a while buying an M9 and then getting a couple of Voitlander lenses. Making the package more affordable. But then after consideration I thought perhaps it would be best to spend my money on some mint 'used' Leica glass (28mm Cron and 50mm 1.4 Lux ASHP) and then maybe purchase a used / demo / new M8 (I'm looking at a 'shop handled' M8 for $US3200). The idea being I would have quality glass that will suit any upgrades to further M bodies in the future. But I have read so many contrasting reviews and user experiences of the M8. The negatives seem to all focus on unusable 'noise' at ISO 1250 and above. Auto White Balance (has firmware upgrades fixed this?), cameras not working for many reasons (seems to be 'first batches' that seem to fall into this category). Anyway, it's just been interesting reading all the gushy reviews of the M9 where alot of M8 hate seems to come out. You know the drill "problems finally fixed, here there and everywhere etc...." Anyway I'll stop raving, but I would love to hear anyones thoughts on the M8 and my questions. Are people still happy with their M8's. Is it really the digital v1.0 that needed to go to v2.0 (M9) to finally get the digital M right. thanks for your time, g http://www.GlendynIvin.com
