  1. 21mm APO in Rainny Night This is a harsh test for the all weather capability of my SL2 and SL 21mm f/2 APO. It was a rainny night at Shibuya, Tokyo. When this red modifed Mazda RX-7 sports car passing me, I picked up my camera right away and shoot in AF mode. The lens did hunt a bit in dark+rain but eventually locked her target, I missed the moment which I wanted the car on the crossing, anyway. A subject can't stand out without a suitable background. Japan streets and cars are absolutely clean, sign board light is bright, the reflection from the wet asphalt road looks gorgeous to my eyes. I generally won't shoot streets under the rain in other places, but Japan is an exception. This is my very first day shooting with my SL 21mm APO on SL2 , the prictures are sharp centre to corner, AF is reliable but not snappy in dark. The picture was taken with f/2, 1/60, ISO320, colour graded in ACR. And this image has been cropped to just 3.4MP from the original 47MP output. THIS LENS CHANGE MY PREFERNCE. If you need the depth of field anyway, why bother to carry a heavy zoom or second lens anymore, if the photos are for sharing here and IG. Thanks to the high pixel sensor and the unbeatable 21mm APO, I believe this could be my ultimate answer.
  2. I couldn't find an image thread for the 21mm focal length, so please post your images here, extra points for images shot on film! 21mm SEM, Leica M10D, tripod
  3. For UWA lens fans and users: could you work/live with just one UWA lens to rule them all (say, 15mm or 18mm) or would you rather have two extreme sides of UWA (like Laowa 9mm/Voigtlander 10/12mm and a 21mm)? Your thoughts are appreciated.
  5. http://soundvisionpassion.com/2011/1...-color-skopar/ Hey everyone! I finally got my review up of this little lens. The 21mm F/4 is a fantastic lens. It doesn't change the world over, but for a 21mm lens, it is pretty darn amazing when it's price is factored in. I found a method of focusing to .5m on the M8 that works every time in the field. (even wide open!) I can nail sharp focus. I don't know if this works with other .5m lenses yet...but maybe someone can try it with the new 35 1.2. You can see detailed shot of how to focus to .5 in the write up! Let me know if this works for you as well!
  6. Hi everyone! Voigtländer’s two most recent vintage lenses have been widely available for quite a few months, but I find very few “real life” reviews on line, and none from the usual suspects specifically, I am looking for feedback on personal experience/testing with the Color-Skopar 21mm f/3.5 VM on digital Ms (not curious about other 21mm lenses, nor Sony mount version, nor speculation based on specs sheet, nor inferences from the 35mm Ultron nor general talk about VM lenses). Anyone in this forum actually used the lens with a digital M yet? If yes, how did it perform for you (resolution/contrast, potential quirks in corners, distortion, vignetting, rendering in general, focusing reliability, etc) ? Please forgive me if the specific performance topic was already discussed in detail in this forum. Or can you point to any (good) output-based review blog/video (found one using film M, a couple showing lens rather than discussing performance and plenty of reviews for E-mount version)? Or simply pictures shot through the lens (preferably high res downloads)? i have seen the promotional picture samples published at launch, so no need to point there! Thanks beforehand!
  7. Hi all, I am looking for a little help here, I have a 21mm f2.8 Elmarit (Canadian version). I have lost one of the small screws that are used to secure the lens hood so I can't properly fit the hood. Do any of you know how I might be able to get (purchase) any new screws, I have contacted Leica-camera UK but they are unable to help me. I have attached some photographs to show the lens and screw if that helps. Grateful for any advice, Regards Topsy.

  9. Hello all, I've got a question regarding my Super Angulon 21mm f/3.4. I've recently been using the lens with color transparency film as opposed to the usual black and white, and I haven't been very satisfied with the results. Not sure if the lens needs to be serviced, or maybe this is just the way the lens renders with Velvia 100. What I've been noticing is that the lens doesn't seem to have that distinct Leica clarity. It seems to be sharp, but to me not nearly as detailed as my other Leica glass. I'm not shooting with the newest optics by any means. Currently a Summaron 35mm f/3.5, Summicron Collapsible 50mm f/2, Tele Elmarit 90mm f/2.8 (FAT) and a Tele Elmar 135mm f/4. All of these lenses have that distinct sharpness and 'pop'. So I was just wondering what you guys think. Could it just need a CLA, or is this just the nature of the optic? I've done as much research as I could find online, I read that it is a sharp lens with a unique character. But I would say the same is true of all the lenses I use, so I can't figure out why this SA would be lacking, causing me to see this distinct difference. Here is a link to some image comparisons to show what I'm talking about: link Thank you all greatly! Kyle
  10. Hi, I am new Leica IIIf user. Is it possible to use Super Angulon 21/3.4 on LTM body? Leica Wiki shows some units are compatible but one of my friend told me SA21/3.4 is only for M mount. Please enlighten me. Best
  11. Curious about the EVF-2, the Olympus specs do Not offer any help, i am wondering what the practical limitations of using Wide Angels lenses with the M240 and an EVF-2 are. My Q: What is the Widest lens that will work in a usable way with the EVF-2, before having to purchase a dedicated Wide Angle VF if anyone has experience?
  12. Hi all. So looks like there is no end to my bad luck having to send lenses to Leica for repair or adjustment. This time my Super-Elmar-M 21mm has developed a wobble in front part of the lens. I guess I am not the only one who had this issue with the Super-Elmar-M in the past. But I would need some advice. How long usually fixing wobble issues has taken at Wetzlar? I found this video: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZL3WojYoXQ). Is same kind of procedure possible to do by yourself for the SEM 21? I would just hate to wait again 3-4 months for a lens repair, because it is my favourite lens and I use it almost every week... Is it covered by warranty? Lens was bought less than 2 years ago. If you have experience on having to pay for fixing wobble issues how much has it usually cost? I know I should give them (Leica Service) a call go get answers for my questions. But I still would like to know what I am dealing with. Thank you very much for answers
  13. I know there are already a few threads which briefly touch on this lens, but I want to know: What do you think about the little 21mm f/4 Voigtländer? After planning a few photo trips this year, I thought I need a wide angle. Until now, my NEX-7 with the 12mm Zeiss Touit did the job, but I no longer wanted to bring that rather large combination with me all the time. My Billingham Hadley small still has a little room, and my M-system lacks a wide angle lens (I currently only have a 50mm and a 90mm Summicron). So today, I found a deal at leicashop.com (a well known Vienna-based Leica dealer), so I ordered the Color-Skopar 21mm f/4 together with the old 21mm Voigtländer viewfinder for €420. As I can still cancel the order - or simply send back the lens later - I would love to get some input. My Touit is a great wide angle lens, and I don't want to loose too much image quality. Speed is not a concern - since the M (240) can't do exposures longer than 8 seconds at high ISO anyway, night landscapes are out of question, and that's about the only thing where I need speed in a wide angle lens. So have you shot with the lens? Could you post some images made with it? Is the color shift a severe problem? The internet isn't filled well enough with information about this lens, unfortunately, so thank you in advance for any thoughts!
  14. Hello guys , I just bought a 21mm Elmarit f2.8 lens (the old one) for my Leica MP Typ 240. Really enjoyed the lens. I just noticed that its min focus distance is 0.7 while i read on the internet that you can find a version that focus at 0.38. Any other differences between the two lenses ? Somebody here have experience with the close focus version ? I took some Street Pictures and wrote a little article for my blog: www.walkingphotographer.net/blog/21mm-street-photography Thanks for your time ! Eolo www.walkingphotographer.net
  15. Another from Torres del Paine Parque Nacional in southern Chile. This one was with the 21mm SEM on my M240. It is a single 8 second exposure. Patagonia #15 by Jeff Parsons, on Flickr
  16. I have been using the Leica 21mm Super Elmar lens over the last year more and more and have been really blown away with the quality of this lens. I have attached a couple of favorites, and if of interest, I have posted a small review on my site: https://photobasecamp.com/review-leica-21mm-super-elmar/ Thanks so much for taking a look! Mike
  17. Hi all, I have been reading on this forum for a long time, but never posted before, so first let me introduce myself. My name is Ole, I am from Norway, and I have been into photography for nearly a decade. Hence, I am still a junior:) A month ago I both my first Leica film camera, a nearly mint M3 from 1966. I love shooting with 50mm, so when deciding between an M2, M3 and M6 the choice was easy. I also have an M246 which I couldn't be more happy with. In addition, I have a Sony A7 for convenience, and because my wife forbids me from selling it ("we need a camera that can take colour photos of our future kids"). Yes, we are expecting one later this year:) Moving on. When I bought the M246 I quickly opted for the Zeiss C Biogon 21/4.5 as my UWA. My rationale was that this lens would give me what I needed for the least amount of $$$. The colour issues are not a problem on the M246, and the lens have plenty of qualities. In fact, in many ways its a real gem - small, nearly zero distortion, and plenty of sharpness in central and midfield areas. Towards the edges the sharpness drops rather quickly though. And, as many of you know, the lens vignettes A LOT. On a digital camera with a histogram I can overcome this. But what about on a film camera? Have any of you used this lens on a film camera, and how do you usually expose? Does it vignette as much on film as it does on a digital camera? I know, the best way to find out is to go out and test, which I will do as soon as I get 21mm viewfinder. But until then it would be very nice to hear your experiences with this little gem:) Thanks for reading. All the best, Ole
  18. This awesome 21mm lens with f/1.4 f-stop totally deserves its own thread. The popularity of fast wide M lenses among Leica photographers seems to drop as soon as one drifts away from the optical viewfinder lines of the eternal 28mm / 35mm / 50mm trinity. Leica even went as far as to discontinue its entire 24mm M line of lenses at some point in 2020, including the precious Summilux 24. Yet for reportage, conventions, events, concerts, wedding receptions and people photography, a fast wide angle is usually priceless. What the Summilux 21 f/1.4 offers over other slower (f/1.8 to f/3.4) lenses from the 21mm scuderia (there are not many for the M, although Voigtlander and TTArtisan offer direct competition with same or very similar f-stop) is the incredible separation of the subject from the background, an amazing feature for a wide angle lens. The 21 lux is of course a Karbe masterpiece, Erwin Puts even said in one of his articles that "If you compare the 1.4/21 with the 0.95/50mm you see comparable quality." Please post your images and share your experience with the 21 lux - everything from series VIII/8 filters and other adapted filter solutions to your experience with this light beast in the field and on assignments, preferrably wide open. This is NOT a SEM thread, but a comparison between the two is OK.
  19. Hi, is the 21 SEM supposed to have a high level of astigmatism? I took a few night pictures yesterday and all the small lights have a (sagittal?) tail attached to it across the frame (see attached, M10, f3.4 wide open). I'm quite surprised at this as my copy is otherwise edge-to-edge sharp and renders amazingly during the day, just shockingly unusable during the night - even when stopped down a bit, which is a bit disappointing for this highly corrected ASPH. lens. If this is the norm, would anyone be able to suggest a wide angle lens (<28mm) with relatively less astigmatism? Thanks.
  20. Simply using a tripod, 21mm 3.4 ASPH and a flashlight to create the product shots below. Not sure if People section is the right place for these photos...but I can't find "product shots", and I treat my motorbike as my GF~ LOL #1 - V-Rod Muscle + Reality Stone~ #2 - The "fire" was actually my hand lit by the flashlight... by mistake #3 - My friend's bike - Kawasaki ZRX400 #4 - Honda CBR250rr
  21. I sold my CV 21mm f/1.8 and bought a chrome 21mm f/3.4 super angulon for about $700 today. Much smaller lens that focuses a bit closer. It's got some moderate haze in it but i'm pretty confident in my ability to take it apart and clean it. Before I do, though, I was wondering if anyone has done this and if it's similar to the older f/4 version or the 35mm f/3.5 Summaron-M, both of which I have successfully taken apart and cleaned in the past.
  22. I am very excited to hear that Voigtlander will have a new 21mm Color Skopar. https://leicarumors.com/2018/09/29/two-new-voigtlander-m-mount-lenses-ultron-35mm-f-2-and-color-skopar-21mm-f-3-5.aspx/ I hope the "purple" side issues are solve haha. Anyone here excited?
  23. Hello everyone, I decided to get very soon a 21mm, plus a VF (probably the CV 21/25). I want a brand new lens, not used. I'm ready and excited to explore this FL on my M10... Because I don't need speed, my primary choice it's the Color Skopar f/3.5. I know it's a great lens, small and light as I prefer, affordable, and it would fulfill my needs and pleasure to shoot at f/4 and f.8. Now, said that I have to confess you something. The most inspiring M lens I always wanted to buy since my first Leica year, it's not a 35 APO. Or a Noctilux, or any summilux. It's actually an Elmar, a super one... The one and only 21 SEM. Yes! In my very short Leica/rangefinder experience, I think I understood that the 21/SEM is one of the finest lenses of the brand. It's super sharp, corner to corner, an extraordinary glass with almost no lacks or competition in its focal length (when speed is not needed). And it always attracted me a lot. It makes sense to have only one lens as a reference for that specific FL. Am I right? I can have five, six 35mm lenses, but in my mind, it makes sense to have just one 21. Is this a lens that makes almost everyone happy? . I'm still "scared" it's not necessary that much, because I'm sure I will be fine too with the Color-Skopar, you know what I mean? Nowadays, the brand new lenses are modern and great. I love the 2.8/35 ZM IQ and rendering, as my CV 35/1.4 II MC. They are different tools for other purposes. But If I love the Nokton Classic, do I should love the Color Skopar anyway? 🤣 Just kidding. I mean, I'm totally ok with a 90% sharp lens instead of the best one. And I know too that I would appreciate in the SEM, the lens hood shape (which I adore), the focus tab, the 6-bit coded, etc etc. In your experience, or from what you have heard, what do you think are the differences between the two 21? Does it (super) worth the upgrade? Any feedback it's very appreciated. In constant M-evolution, Have a great Sunday.
