  2. Hello, I am still evaluating if a SL is a good investment for my big collection of old R lenses. With the objects I photograph I use mainly the Macro and light Tele lenses: 60mm, 100mm, 135mm, 180mm I have almost not been using my all time favorite lens the 100mm/2.8 Apo Macro since 10 years (digital age) which I feel is a very big loss. The SL will be a fine investment if I can finally use this lens again for "daily work". So I am not interested to know how the latest AF equipment works (which I find too expensive and much too bulky for most work or for fun, probably because I prefer fixed length lenses). I am looking for people with experience (and maybe fun) to use the 90's R lenses (that not so long ago were regarded as top). I have invested much more into the R system than in M lenses, and I assume there must be many more people with the same problem. So I am looking for experiences with R-lenses with the SL, mainly for Macro use and for light Tele. If you can share your fotos even better. Imagine that you have a complete R collection, but little money to buy new equipment - so is the Leica SL worth the enormous price to reactivate the R system ? The 60, 100, 135 and 180 were the bread and butter lenses. Can they be that again with the Leica SL ? By the way, the Leica M 240 is definitely not worth the trouble (to put these R lenses in front of it) even if officially supported. Thanks for any responses.
  3. hi all! I have 35 and 75, both lux. but some times I would like to get picture quality as at my 35 lux. 75 bit different. looking at 90/2.8, 90/2, 90/2AA... I shoot landscapes, portraits. not sure but maybe 180/2.8 or 180/2.8 APO as I also wanted something longer than short tele. use these at typ 240 and Sony a7II. any ideas?
  4. A few friends of mine and I went photographing together at a local track meet. Quite a challenge to shoot with a manual-focus SLR. All the same, I got some results I was quite happy with. Leica R8/DMR + 90mm lens (circa 1968) and 180mm lens (circa 1984). More photos at Midwest Editorial Photo: Troy Freund
  5. Some friends and I met out to try our hands at photographing indoor soccer--wowza--that was tough. Still though, I managed to get a few images I was happy with. More photos at: for the fun of it-indoor soccer Midwest Editorial Photo: Troy Freund Troy
  6. Recently acquired a Canon 5D(mk 1) and Leica R adapter. Now need lens(es) to include something 300mm +/-. Budget - under $1000. Please - no suggestions of superb $4,000 APO lenses Looking for user experience that compares/contrasts any of the following possibilities: 1. 180 f/2.8 (Series filter version) + 2x R converter (non APO) 2. 180 f/2.8 (E67 filter version) + 2X R converter 3. 180 f/3.4 APO + 2x converter 4. 250mm f/4 (either version) alone 5. 250mm f/4 (either version) + 2x converter 6. 400 f/6.8 alone 7. 180 f/2.8 (either version) + 400 f/6.8 (I see enough 400 Telyts out there for the price of a 2x converter that I'd consider this option, too. Usually missing the grip and shoulder brace - but I don't need those anyway) For reference - I have in the past on film used the 180(E67), both 250s, and the 400 f/6.8. So I have a rough idea how those perform alone (not with 2x converter). I also know the Lens Compendium reviews, but they also do not mention 2x converter effects.
  7. Went to the "Mondo Lucha" event this past weekend--amazing! Live music, burlesque dancers and Mexican-style all-star wrestling--how could we go wrong?!
