  1. OK - moment of madness and ignoring all of the warnings about not being able to focus, I caved in and bought a vintage (1960) ELMAR 135mm f/4 for my MM at a ridiculous bargain basement price. I confess that focusing has been a ... challenge. Even with a 1.35x magnifier on the viewfinder the paper-thin DoF at anything much under 5m (17ft) is a problem. Anyway, I have a large number of out-of-focus shots as a result. But a shot of some workmen in a nearby street (where the point of focus matches my intentions) does not look too bad. I've included a 100% crop of the central area. Does it seem a little soft or have I been staring at my screen for too long? Thoughts appreciated. Has anyone else had any experience of this lens and any thoughts on how I might get some consistently good reasonable results? Thanks, Mike Settings were: 1/125s, f/8, ISO 1600 (handheld)
  2. About a month ago I bought the above 135 f4 Elmar (serial no. 1893726) on eBay. The seller - 123stiny - assured me that the lens was better than new, the lenses had been removed and ultra sonically cleaned, the old lubricant replaced by new and better. Incredibly, he sent it to me loosely wrapped in some old newspapers, in a cardboard box without the lens caps on, (that's right, the glass elements bare in the box) the Leica lens cap and rear cap nice and safe in a well wrapped little bag. Sure enough, the lens arrived and it was really nice- but now with a large DENT in the filter ring! Rough handling is the norm in the mail people! Pack accordingly! Annoyed, I contacted the man whom the seller had indicated had done such fine work to the Elmar, Henry Sherrer of Suisin City Calif. to see if he could fix the dent. He assured me that he had never worked on the Elmar or any Elmar for that matter, but would fix it if he could. I sent it to him the next day. The lens never arrived. (Thanks again to Henry for all his valued help) Tracking indicates that the lens made it only to the post office in Suisin City, and theire it got rerouted and two days later was delivered to an address in Hackensack New Jersey. It then vanished. I would appreciate anyone seeing or finding this lens to contact me. I have tried everything else. Thanks all.
  3. Taken in Gion, Kyoto. A Maiko on the way to work. Shot taken with Leica M9, 135mm f/4 tele-elmar.
  4. This morning a small iguana was crawling around in our bushes. In the past I have seen really large ones... up to 3-4 feet not including the tail. Actually our Kitty chased a large one away a couple of weeks ago. This morning however the iguana was small, perhaps three feet including the tail. The kitty did not seem to see it but the Iguana kept a good eye out for the kitty. I played with several shots using the 135 Tele-Elmar. I have trouble with the focus but nailed a couple. Just for fun... the Morning of the Iguana. Thanks for looking.
  5. Hi. I recently bought an Elmar 4/135 lens head, mounted on a 16472 tube and a 16464K adapter, apparently fitted to be used on a Visoflex. Does anyone know if there is a way to use the Elmar without Visoflex on my M camera? Thanks and best regards Johan
  6. Does the short mount for using a 135mm lens on a visoflex (ZOOAN) work only with the f4.5 Hector? Or can one use the f4 Elmar in it also? Are any other lenses compatible with it? Is there in fact a different short focussing mount for the Elmar? As this post seems to suggest: ZOOAN vs. 14071 I bought a short focussing mount recently, intending it for use with a Hector, but now having seen one or two posts on the internet, I wonder if it is indeed the one for the Hector, as it is not marked 'ZOOAN' I don't have a lens to use it on yet, but the lenses seem very common (compared with the mounts). Any advice gratefully received. John
