  2. All; I currently own a Leica M8, and have a 28mm and 50mm lens. On the M8, the 28mm is a (37mm equivalent, and the 50 is approx. a 66mm) Blah-Blah-Blah Anyway, I was thinking about a 35mm, (which would give me approx. a 46mm on the M8). I'm not looking to spend $3k on a 35mm Summicron. I've heard some good things about the Summarit and the Zeiss Biogons. The only thing about the Summarit is that the optional shade ($135.00) only screws in part of the way, as there is some sort of stop, which keeps it oriented properly since it is a rectangular shade. Now, what if I use a Cut IR on
  3. Hi everyone I have just purchased an old (1963) Summicron f2 for use on the M9. Having taken some test shots it would appear to be a lovely example of this old lens and I am very pleased with the purchase. A couple of questions 1. Does anyone know what I should put into the M9 by way of the code for the lens? 2. Is it possible to see the correct framelines in the M9 for this lens? The reason for the post title is that I also have a Summarit 50mm (New 6 bit) and of the few test shots I have done comparing this with the Summicron I can see very little difference at f5.6 between

  7. Hello everyone, I just acquired my first Leica three days ago, a beautiful chrome MP. Overall I'm extremely satisfied with the handling and quality of the camera, nothing short of spectacular! The lens I bought with the camera is the 50mm Summarit and the lens hood, which was sold as an extra. I was rather disappointed to find out that there doesn't seem to be any way to attach the hood "properly" to the lens front part, meaning that the hood will not stay in place and just fits too loose. I'm rather surprised that a Leica lens would show this sort of bad manufacturing, the (included!
  9. Last year I ran across a roll of developed Panatomic-X in a box and what I saw on it made me unpack my film scanner and scan a few images. They are shots of me and my generally homemade film developing equipment in the basement of our house in Southern Illinois. I was 16 yrs old and a Junior in high school. I called the business 'Custom Photo Labs' and because I gave 24-hour service on B&W it soon outgrew the basement and became a family business and got state-of-the-art Pako photofinishing equipment and moved into a building. The second image is the last on the roll, of me tweaking the S.
  10. I just picked up and take a look at some photos from my trip to Japan last year. I found out that I really like many photos from the trip. This picture is I took from a barn in a museum that used to be the governor house. I really like the dreamy effect from the old summarit lens (wide-open) with yellow filter in this photo. Hope you guys like it and your comment are very welcome. Pat Camera: Leica M5 Lens: Summarit 5cm f/1,5 + Yellow filter Film: Ilford Pan 400

Preislich
  14. I've compared a few classical Leitz/Zeiss lenses at the NEX-5N - maybe someone ist interested: NEX-5N and classical 50mm Zeiss / Leitz lenses 1) Leitz Elmar 5cm 1:3.5, uncoated (1936) 2) Zeiss Jena Sonnar LTM 5 cm 1:1.5, coated (1941) 3) Leitz Summarit 5cm 1:2, coated (1952) 4) Zeiss Jena Biotar 5.8cm 1:2, cooated (1953) 5) Zeiss Jena Tessar 5cm 1:2.8, coated (1956) 6) Zeiss Planar ZM 2/50mm (2005) 7) Zeiss C-Sonnar ZM 1.5/50mm (2005) I'ts just a small comparison - but better than nothing. If someone of the native english speaking could correct my terrible English i would be
  15. The Summarit 5cm f/1.5 is one of those "You never know what will happen" lenses at night with any light source near the frame. This young lady from Boise, ID was kind enough to pose in the cold while I clumsily framed and focus this shot with the gorgeous little iiif. Portra 400. Leica iiif. 16. I bought a "like new" M6 TTL last week (serial number denotes a 1999 model) with only three rolls run through it and have fallen head over heels in love with it. Problem is, the 50mm Summarit that I've been using on my M8 will not mount correctly to it. The lens will fit into the mount but will not twist and lock. The issue is particularly strange in that the lens mounts and focuses perfectly on my M8 and Voigtlander R4a as well as my friends' M3's, M2's, and M4's. Furthermore, all lenses that I've used on my M6; 50mm Summilux, 50mm Summicron, 35mm Summicron, 75mm Summilux, an older collapsibl
  17. While on a walk about I came upon a tree in San Juan which had about 10 of these fellows on it. This caterpillar is the larval stage of a pretty large but undistinguished moth. The caterpillar however is amazing... this one was about 6 inches long... they look very fierce but apparently only filled with toxin to taste poorly to birds. They had stripped the tree bare. Thanks for looking.
  18. Hi to all owners of Leica CM Summarit. Let’s share experience and photos.

  22. Hello everyone! I'm new to the leica film cameras but I came up a rather very nice iiif in great condition which comes with a summarit 50mm f1.5 going for about $550. This sounded like a pretty good deal to me, however, upon closer inspection the lens seemed to have a lot of haze (not sure about fungus) as when I performed the light test there were specks everywhere. It seemed to be internal and in the second glass?? Not sure how to fix it or if I even can, also the focus ring was pretty stiff (but that isn't a deal breaker or anything). Like I said, the body of the camera was in very goo
