  1. Hi all! Apologies in advance for the length of this post! I was wondering if you all are able to give me some advice or words of wisdom on whether I should get a Rangefinder Leica. At the moment I’m currently using and enjoying my Leica CL & 23mm f2 Summicron. Purchased in Oct 2018. I absolutely love shooting with the CL and for me it was the upgrade I was always wanting. I even adapt some rare and unique vintage m42 lenses to it and get some amazing results. Now I’m no professional photographer, just a hobby shooter but the Leica CL I have had really developed my love and passion for photography. At the time of purchasing the CL I was using a Nikon D7500 which I still have (but never use) so for me, at the time the CL was the next step up, and I never thought of going for a rangefinder (couldn’t afford the m10 and lenses anyway lol). But now having visited the Sydney Leica store on many occasions to try out the M10 and the rangefinder systems, I’ve grown more interest for a Rangefinder. I’m interested in the M240, maybe the M262. I like the appeal of a brassing body though (a bit of individualism I’d say). But honestly I’m not sure which system to go for (and I don’t have the money for a new M10). What are the PROS and CONS for each system? What makes you want to stay with that system? (if you have one) what would you recommend I do or go for? Now I’ve done heaps of research and reviews on both systems but I really want to hear from everyday people who use them. Thanks!
  2. Hi guys, Recently I bought a new Leica M-E (typ240)and it's basically an M240. And a few days ago, when I tried to do some continuous shootings (the shutter not being hold all the way, but rapidly pressing the shutter when the screen was black and the red light was flashing), I found out that among a series of photos I shot at the same scene, there was one that was a bit underexposured (you can obviously tell the difference between that one and others), and this kind of issue happened a few times when they were all ISO, Shutter speed Auto, and the aperture was fixed. After noticing that, I started to do some continuous shootings of over 10 photos to testify it, and there was even one black frame, but others were fine, and judging from the exposure parameter, there was absolutely no possibility that one could be a black frame. When I got back home, I did a few more rounds of continuous shootings, and I even tried to make ISO, Shutter speed and aperture all fixed, and Underexposure issue happened again. The firmware is the latest one (2.0.6.0). So I'm wondering if you guys have had the same issue? Is it normal? And how to deal with it?
  3. Hello Everyone, My M240's Shutter Speed dial has become misaligned. When set to A the camera reads 1/30th. Does anyone know how to fix this or do I have to send it into Leica? If so, how much would something like this cost to get fixed? Thanks!
  4. I am not sure where to put this thread so I will put it here since the Zenit M is said by some sources to be "essentially a Leica M 240." To be honest, the camera itself doesn't have much of a pull for me; the 35mm f/1.0 lens is interesting, though. It would be great to see some test shots from that lens. Only 500 of these kits will be available, according to the article. Priced at $7000 USD, I think I'll pass. Here are two links with articles about the Zenit M: https://leicarumors.com/2019/12/15/the-zenit-m-camera-with-leica-m-mount-is-now-available-for-purchase-in-the-us.aspx/ https://petapixel.com/2019/12/16/the-zenit-m-full-frame-rangerfinder-made-by-leica-is-finally-available-in-the-us/?mc_cid=6ad6d1a39e&mc_eid=08903530b5
  5. I put away the Leica hand-grip and installed the stock bottom cover today and I realize there is rubber opening that aligns with the SD card. I have never used the stock cover... so can I remove the SD card thru that slot without take off the bottom cover, or even without powering off the camera? Thanks!! In additional, I have a MP version in black. Does the bottom cover brassing like to top plate as well? That would be sooo pretty!!

  7. I have a trip planned for January 2020 to the Azores and Lisbon. I plan on bringing my M240 with 35 Cron, and 28 Ultron VM. I want to do some landscape and seascape images and would like to get a wide or ultra wide angle lens. I'm looking for suggestions or user experience on what is available. Right now my top choices are the Voigtlander 12mm f5.6 (which i can use on my Xpro2 as well) or Voigtlander 15mm f4.5 which will be cheaper but won't be useful on my crop sensor (I already have that focal length covered). My other option would be the Leica 21mm f3.4 SEM... which I hear is an excellent lens but would require me to sell some gear fast to afford it. Anyone have any other suggestions or can give me insight on their experience with the choices i have listed?

I have been in a rut lately so have posted very little. However I did shoot this a few days ago because I liked the combination of colours. I hope you think the effort was worthwhile! Leica M240 + 50mm Summicron-M f2 @400iso. Gerry

    Mike the Magician

While I was having coffee at my favourite place this guy was sat running his office over his cup of coffee. "Hi, it's Mike the Magician" he said down the telephone. Sadly the guy at the other end didn't seem to know who he was. I took this candid shot of him with the M240 + 50mm lens at 1600iso. I then processed it through Lightroom Classic. Hope you like it! Gerry
  12. I was trying to use a 7Artisans 28/1.4 M fit lens on my M240. I went into manual lens selection, with the expectation of being able to declare it as a 28/f1.4 Summilux, only to find that this lens was not listed, unlike on my SL and CL. On checking, I found that the latest firmware release, 2.0.5.0, dates from around 20 months ago in November 2017 and does not seem to allow for a number of the latest lenses such as the 28 Summilux. I also noticed that a number of the links on Leica's download page for the M240 are dead or inactive (take you to a blank page). It would seem that the M240 is now being written out of Leica's consciousness, even though it is still listed as a current product. It cannot be a big rewrite of the firmware to add additional lenses if the firmware was well written in the first place, as this should have been allowed for. On the basis of past experience, it is an extremely laborious process to get Leica to listen when they have made firmware errors and/or omissions and can take up to 2 years to get these corrected, after Leica have admitted that they have made an error or omission. The GPS error on the multifunction grip is a good example of this, when GPS was pretty much disabled by an FW update error and it took 2 years for Leica to correct it, in spite of many reminders from me and others. 15. A drizzly, cold, damp afternoon on New York City's famed High Line gave a moody, monochrome atmosphere which called for this shot to be captured in B&W. This M240 is my first Leica since my M2. This camera made me fall in love with B&W all over again. I could so trade this in for the M262 Monochrom.

  18. Hi all, I have had an SL with 24-90 for 18 months. Lovely IQ but heavy combination so been using a couple of Zeiss ZM lenses (35/1.4 and just got the 50/2). Enjoy manual focus on the SL and the EVF is great....although it is still clearly an electronic VF, not optical The decision to go with the SL was difficult - I was torn between the SL or an M. At that point I had a full range of Fuji gear but wanted my first full frame digital and had always wanted a Leica. It really was a head vs heart debate - my head questioning the viability of a rangefinder mechanism today etc. Anyway....I am once again considering an M. Tried the M10 pre Xmas and produced some very pleasing images, with crisp focus. I am happy staying at 35 and 50mm but a bit concerned about manual focus on the M and (probably a bigger issue), not ‘seeing what you get’ in terms of image as I am used to EVF. The lack of info in the VF concerns me a bit I have come close recently to buying an M10P and 35 summicron but wonder if I am better going for a used M to start with - chance to prove to myself that I can get on ok with it. Could even use my existing ZM lenses initially. So any advice on used Ms pls? Cheapest entry is an M8 but I don’t want to go so cheap that I get an experience that puts me off....so an M240? Other option is to rent one for a week, anyone help me out with recommendation pls (UK)? Thanks everyone.
  19. Hello All, I shot MOV videos with my M-P 240 and some of the files got corrupted. I absolutely *MUST* restore these files. I tried the commonly found free techniques (QuickTime, VLC). (Unsurprisingly), Most of the paid software restoration tools out there already claimed that they don't take Leica in charge as each brand and model have their own MOV file structure. I have spent time with their support team in live chats confirming this. Based on my files sizes (ranging 640 MB to 4 GB), I still have hope. Data definitely exists, but it's only a matter of finding the right restoration technique of compatible software. Anyone ran into a similar ordeal? I am devastated... Thank you so kindly in advance for your help! Charles

  21. Hi all, I am an M9 user but of late I have been seriously thinking of getting an M240 (M-P) to use for landscapes. I am not concerned with the differences in file output but what I am interested in is any advice you can give with regard to using filters. With my M9s I find filter use (Grads, Polarisers) at best inconvenient at worst downright annoying I am thinking that with the Live View on the M240 it will be easy to judge effect of filters I'm even thinking of adding the EVF for more convenience. So any advice/comments on your experiences on the use of filters with the M240 would be greatly appreciated. I should add that for "serious" Landscapes I do have the Fujifilm GFX 50S Medium Format system the 240 would be for when I travel light but still want to be able to do landscapes as well as travel style.

  24. Hi, I have Hasselblad V series lenses and also a M240. I was thinking of buying 'Kipon Baveyes Ultra 0.7x Adapter for Hasselblad Medium Format Lens to Leica M Mount' so that I can use these lenses. Has anyone used this adapter, and what was the experiance? N.Shah
