I have been in a rut lately so have posted very little. However I did shoot this a few days ago because I liked the combination of colours. I hope you think the effort was worthwhile! Leica M240 + 50mm Summicron-M f2 @400iso. Gerry

    Mike the Magician

While I was having coffee at my favourite place this guy was sat running his office over his cup of coffee. "Hi, it's Mike the Magician" he said down the telephone. Sadly the guy at the other end didn't seem to know who he was. I took this candid shot of him with the M240 + 50mm lens at 1600iso. I then processed it through Lightroom Classic. Hope you like it! Gerry
  4. I was trying to use a 7Artisans 28/1.4 M fit lens on my M240. I went into manual lens selection, with the expectation of being able to declare it as a 28/f1.4 Summilux, only to find that this lens was not listed, unlike on my SL and CL. On checking, I found that the latest firmware release,, dates from around 20 months ago in November 2017 and does not seem to allow for a number of the latest lenses such as the 28 Summilux. I also noticed that a number of the links on Leica's download page for the M240 are dead or inactive (take you to a blank page). It would seem that the M240 is now being written out of Leica's consciousness, even though it is still listed as a current product. It cannot be a big rewrite of the firmware to add additional lenses if the firmware was well written in the first place, as this should have been allowed for. On the basis of past experience, it is an extremely laborious process to get Leica to listen when they have made firmware errors and/or omissions and can take up to 2 years to get these corrected, after Leica have admitted that they have made an error or omission. The GPS error on the multifunction grip is a good example of this, when GPS was pretty much disabled by an FW update error and it took 2 years for Leica to correct it, in spite of many reminders from me and others. 6. I particularly like the two faces in the background! Leica M240 with 50mm Zeiss Sonnar f1.5 lens. 1/750 f8 @ 320iso. Gerry
  7. A drizzly, cold, damp afternoon on New York City's famed High Line gave a moody, monochrome atmosphere which called for this shot to be captured in B&W. This M240 is my first Leica since my M2. This camera made me fall in love with B&W all over again. I could so trade this in for the M262 Monochrom.

  11. Hi all, I have had an SL with 24-90 for 18 months. Lovely IQ but heavy combination so been using a couple of Zeiss ZM lenses (35/1.4 and just got the 50/2). Enjoy manual focus on the SL and the EVF is great....although it is still clearly an electronic VF, not optical The decision to go with the SL was difficult - I was torn between the SL or an M. At that point I had a full range of Fuji gear but wanted my first full frame digital and had always wanted a Leica. It really was a head vs heart debate - my head questioning the viability of a rangefinder mechanism today etc. Anyway....I am once again considering an M. Tried the M10 pre Xmas and produced some very pleasing images, with crisp focus. I am happy staying at 35 and 50mm but a bit concerned about manual focus on the M and (probably a bigger issue), not ‘seeing what you get’ in terms of image as I am used to EVF. The lack of info in the VF concerns me a bit I have come close recently to buying an M10P and 35 summicron but wonder if I am better going for a used M to start with - chance to prove to myself that I can get on ok with it. Could even use my existing ZM lenses initially. So any advice on used Ms pls? Cheapest entry is an M8 but I don’t want to go so cheap that I get an experience that puts me off....so an M240? Other option is to rent one for a week, anyone help me out with recommendation pls (UK)? Thanks everyone.
  12. Hello All, I shot MOV videos with my M-P 240 and some of the files got corrupted. I absolutely *MUST* restore these files. I tried the commonly found free techniques (QuickTime, VLC). (Unsurprisingly), Most of the paid software restoration tools out there already claimed that they don't take Leica in charge as each brand and model have their own MOV file structure. I have spent time with their support team in live chats confirming this. Based on my files sizes (ranging 640 MB to 4 GB), I still have hope. Data definitely exists, but it's only a matter of finding the right restoration technique of compatible software. Anyone ran into a similar ordeal? I am devastated... Thank you so kindly in advance for your help! Charles

  14. Hi all, I am an M9 user but of late I have been seriously thinking of getting an M240 (M-P) to use for landscapes. I am not concerned with the differences in file output but what I am interested in is any advice you can give with regard to using filters. With my M9s I find filter use (Grads, Polarisers) at best inconvenient at worst downright annoying I am thinking that with the Live View on the M240 it will be easy to judge effect of filters I'm even thinking of adding the EVF for more convenience. So any advice/comments on your experiences on the use of filters with the M240 would be greatly appreciated. I should add that for "serious" Landscapes I do have the Fujifilm GFX 50S Medium Format system the 240 would be for when I travel light but still want to be able to do landscapes as well as travel style.

  17. Hi, I have Hasselblad V series lenses and also a M240. I was thinking of buying 'Kipon Baveyes Ultra 0.7x Adapter for Hasselblad Medium Format Lens to Leica M Mount' so that I can use these lenses. Has anyone used this adapter, and what was the experiance? N.Shah

  23. Well, I did it. I found me a nice used M 240 for a good price. It was rated as a 7+, probably because of a gouge in the top plate near the left edge, but it looks in far nicer shape than my M9 —still without the sensor replacement— but then my M9 has been with me for four years of travel across the US, through the Ecuadorian Amazon, to Peru, across Turkey —it survived after I got hit by a car in Ankara— and around Spain. Took the 240 out this morning to take pics of the balloon festival. The deets: M240; VC Nokton 1.1 (shot at f8); postprocessed in Lightroom. Cheers, S
