  1. hello, i own the CL only for a few days now. when i use the cl in A-, S- or P-auto mode i get no under-/overexposure warning (shutterspeed-/aperture-display turns from white to red) when the lowest or highest aperture value combined with the set shutter speed and iso (iso-mode in auto) will result in under or overexposure (see discription on page 52/53). the displayed values are allways shown in white when i press the shutter botton to the first pressure point. I use a tl-lens f2/35. i made a camera-reset, but the problem remains. what is wrong? Is it the firmwareversion 2.1? is it a technical defect or is it me not understanding the camera? what causes the problem? please excuse my bad english Jo
  2. Hi Guys, love the SF40 which you all had suggested. I love the flash, however i shoot in Afperture Priority and it seems that the flash only sincs at 1/60 . I also use Auto ISO, is there a way to get HSS on this flash and my CL ? I could not find a setting in the menu. Thank you in advance as always for your great help. I have just gotten the 35/1.4 which i would hope would give me a larger range on the flash.
  3. Remote beach - fishing communities, City and townships, remote rural areas, Tourist spot Victoria Falls, Safari through Botswana - wildlife. The luggage restriction will be down to 15 kg per person on some stretches, including handluggage and cameras. So: Focal lenghts from 24 equ. to 800 equ., at least one fast lens, redundancy, two bodies... Not too heavy and compact. My solution will be Panasonic GX8, 15, 25 DG Summiluxes, 100-40 DG Vario-Elmar, CL, 18-56, 55-135, Summilux-M 24, five spare batteries , two chargers, SF40, odds and ends. All will fit easily into a compact Hadley Presstop and weigh under 8 kg :). It is a kit that I have been waiting for for many years. If there had been a compact TL 100-400 the Panasonic would have been replaced by a second CL body.
  4. Has anybody used any arca-swiss type L-bracket on the CL? Alain.
  5. The Leica CL will be available in silver anodized finish soon.
  8. There have been many conversations here and elsewhere regarding battery life. I thought I would share my recent experience. I have just spent an interesting, if tiring day pounding the halls at Photokina. I had with me my CL, 11-23 & 18-55 lenses & three batteries. The camera was set to record raw+jpg (small). I used the viewfinder only with minimal chimping & diving into the menu. The first battery lasted all day at Photokina, and even into the following day walking around Cologne. Once the photos were in Lightroom a quick count revealed 462 exposures before the battery symbol started flashing red. To my mind, very impressive.
  9. I just received the very nice Korean-made LIM Thumb Grip for the CL, which appears to look identical to the Leica-branded CL Thumb Grip, and, is priced ⅓ less. Good enough for me. Color perfectly matches the CL, fit is excellent, and gives some added thumb support to hold the CL with more stability. Highly recommended.
  10. I know this has been covered in a variety of posts, but until Leica fix the issue with a firmware update I’m looking for what different solutions users are deploying, and it might be helpful to keep this issue under a common topic. Today was my first ‘full day’ of street shooting since I acquired my CL and the wandering focus point was particularly annoying as it often defaulted to the bottom left of the screen/viewfinder; why is this? I understand that you can reposition it by tapping the LCD screen, but I prefer to use the EVF and until you view, you don’t know where the focus point is, by the time you’ve recentred it a ‘decisive moment’ can be missed. How do you guys overcome the issue?
  11. Hi all, I have recently sold my Leica Q in order to buy something with interchangeable lenses. I am really struggling to chose between buying a new Leica CL, Summicron 23mm (and I will probably down the road buy the adapter and some M-lenses), or a used Leica M 240 along with a used Leica M lens (probably 50 mm Summicron). In the end both options will do the same damage to my wallet For info, I do currently not own any Leica lenses. I am not a professional, merely a happy amateur. My photography is concentrated around portraits (bokeh!!), family, travel, social activities, landscape, architecture. My heart is leaning towards the M, while my brain (and wife, even though she is not negative for the M) towards the CL. I am a bit afraid of the rangefinder, and if I will be able to focus as quick as I want to. The CL have AF on TL-lenses and focus-peaking on M-glass through the EVF (I know the M240 have focus-peaking on the screen and the optional viewfinder, but then the point of the RF is kinda gone?). After all the CL might just be a pit-stop to the M(?). I am not interested in sports- or action photography (even though we do have a eager and young dog), but it would be awful to miss a moment due to lacking focus. My question is; which option would you buy, and why? PS: I have in the process already passed on Sony and Fujifilm due to their overly-complex nature...
  12. Just curious... Have any of you had an SL... got tired of the weight of the SL glass, and have now gone CL completely?? I had both a Q and SL... with a ton of SL glass. I recently traded my Q for a CL 18mm KIt + some cash. I then added a 23. I just sold some of my SL glass... the 90-280 and 50 SL. I really love the SL and it's IQ, but I'm finding the CL a pleasure to carry around (just like the Q was). To me, the CL is basically an interchangeable lens Q. Yes, I would love if it was FF, but then the glass would be bigger. I don't see myself selling the SL...at least not yet. The SL body is not that big... but the zooms and 50 SL certainly are. Thoughts??
  13. I have had an M10 for over a year and recently purchased a CL as a backup. I love the CL but why oh why couldn't they put the 'Play' button in the middle like on the M10? Every time I want to view an image I press the 'Function' instead of 'Play'! I'd disable the function button completely if I could. Ok, I'll calm down now. Great little camera though!
  14. How would you like the leather trap comes with the CL? It has no adjustment in length, and somewhat long... I have not used it yet in order to keep it totally new, in case need to let go the CL. Would think the traditional Leica camera trap that's in all M and R cameras could be a replacement on this CL? Which one is more usable I wonder...
  15. Apologies if this has been discussed before. For those with more technical knowledge than me, is it even possible for Leica to add Bulb mode to the CL? I was trying to do some slow shutter landscape and was frustrated by the limitation of 30 sec shutter. Thanks.
  16. Just wanted to thank the community for all the great threads on the CL thread. I just made a deal to trade my Q for CL kit (18mm F2.8) + some cash to me. I will play with the 18 since it came with the kit... but may wind up going to the 23 F2. For anyone interested here is why, and I gave it a ton of thought. I really do love my Q PROS: 1. Interchangeable lenses. 2. Same mount as SL. I already have several SL lenses. 3. Smaller size. 4. Q is due for an update. CONS: 1. Crop sensor, which limits DOF. 2. No macro... which I don;t really use anyway. Thoughts??
  17. Hello dear CL owners! In my CL I noticed that the display warms up very quickly, more than other cameras (I had in the past). It's nothing dramatic, but in warm weather it's already noticeably warm. Do you make the same experience with your camera? Thanks a lot and a good week. Andreas
  18. Perhaps this topic had been addressed beforehand. I would like to know if these batteries can be used for CL: The battery is branded as DiviPower made by iCm Photography (China) - sold as compatible Panasonic DMW-BLC12PP rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery for Panasonic Lumix cameras. They are rated at 7.4V 2500mAh, higher than Leica's battery BP-DC12 rated at 7.2V 1200mAh. They are priced at 20% of the original. But I am not sure if the extra 0.2V will be OK for the CL circuitry? Thanks for your advice and thoughts. Benedict.
  19. So, I got my new CL. I always buy leather cases for my cameras to protect them. It looks like Leica's case for the CL won't be available until the Spring. That sucks! I wrote to Zhou and he has no plans to make one. Does anybody know if any third party is making, or is planning to make, a case for the camera? Thanks! Marc
  20. I wonder anyone knows about the image delay and jiggling when panning the CL, I find the image delay/jiggling is very sever, therefore, it is only suitable for stationery type of photograph, not at all moving images, or tracing a subject... Do your CLs have this issue, or it is a setting issue? Or it is because that I am only able to use M-lenses?
  21. Has anyone had success with this? I downloaded it today and it seems cumbersome to use. I have an IPhone SE, iOS 11.4.1. It seems like every time I want to use the app, I have to set up the WLAN again. I have only managed to connect to the phone once. Even then, the functionality seemed limited.
  22. Three things: 1 The wandering focus point 2. There is no early warning of a near-empty battery, it simply dies unexpectedly. 3. The handgrip has no quick-release or easy access to the battery flap. That makes it a pretty good camera for me.
  23. Grrrr! I have just finished reading the 96-page English manual (“Instructions”) for the Leica CL … A frustrating exercise to say the least. The text is awkward and hard to follow. I often found myself scratching my head and muttering, “What the heck does this mean?” Clumsiness aside, there are numerous spelling mistakes and, inexplicably, a fair amount of German text that survived translation. At this time, I won’t get into the awkwardness of the text or the plague of minor annoyances throughout, but I will point to untranslated German and misspellings, all of which would have been detected by an English word-processing spellchecker. I hope that Leica corrects the online pdf and adds an addendum regarding the effect of Firmware 2.0 on the initial text. I’d like to know what others think of the manual. Please chip in ... What errors have you found? In particular, let readers know if you have come across processing / technical errors. Be sure to state precise locations. Here's what I spotted on my read-through ... 24. Hi, As soon as I sell a 2014 Focus, I am planning on buying the CL with the 18-56 and 11-23. I plan on using the camera for a light weight travel camera. My current setup is a Nikon D7100 with the 17-55 f2.8. I love it but it is a beast to lug around all day. I am going to keep the D7100 for Birding. I have read the likes and dislikes threads plus numerous reviews. I believe the CL is a good entry to the Leica world for me. I do have a few questions though: 1 How big of an issue is the wandering focus point? Can it be locked via a menu setting? 2 How well does the Leica app work as a remote release? I like to take photos from a low perspective. I currently use the Nikon right angle viewer attachment to the D7100. 3 What software would people recommend for converting DNG files to JPG? I am currently using Nikon’s software. I have not gone down the Adobe path yet. The CL would not be my first experience with Leica. My brother loaned me one of his M3s with a 35 mm lens i. Mid 70s for a college assignment. I figured it is now time to drink the Kool-aid
