Hi folks... just wanted to open up a thread to hear your experience with these 3 lenses - on the issue of focus shit: Noctilux - I have struggled between getting a f0.95 and f1v4 and decided to go for the latter... however i tried 2 copies of the v4 and both have focus shift problems at MFD (i shot a lot of pictures at 0.7m-2m range) and I returned them... a few leica hobbyist nearby told me that this is a common problem with the f1v4 (and f0.95 as well!!!) - one of them claimed that he has personally played around with 6-7 copies of f1v4 and ALL have focus shift problems... so just wanna to hear your thoughts and experience on this? or maybe it's me who's being too picky??? Summilux 50mm E43 - similar problem... tried 2 copies and have the same focus shift issue... this old lens is great, gives amazing colors and rendering... but again, is the focus shift issue universal with this lens? Summilux 75mm - I have never tried this lens but this is definitely going into my shopping list... but I am already quite beat with my bad experience on focus shift with the Noct and E43 so just wondering if this lens would have the same problem, or should I just simply accept it? Thanks a lot in advance...

Hi all: I'm currently considering the purchase of a used Noctilux 0.95 and the seller tells me that the lens focuses slightly past the infinity position - i.e, when focusing on distant hills you can focus past that position. When doing search on this topic (on this forum and elsewhere), there does not seem to be a consensus data/opinion on this. I've even seen a comment about how this implies back focus at nearer focal lengths. Have people had used a noctilux which had this characteristic? If so, has it affected focusing at other positions? Or is it just that the infinity stop is just incorrectly set up for this lens? Thanks Anil
  7. When I joined this forum a couple of months ago I had just bought the M9 with the 50mm Cron. Since then you have helped me with buying the 21mm Elmar f2.8 and the Tele-Elmarit 90mm f2.8. I felt as well that I needed something in between the 50 and 21 and last week being in Hong Kong I bought a new 28mm Cron. It has been a great lens during the weekend to shoot especially the street markets. And architecture as well (I wonder how much I will use the 21mm from now on). I feel I have all the lenses I need. The next thing will be to upgrade the 50mm and then the 90mm. Both to something with larger maximum aperture. 50mm upgrade will come first. I am thinking mainly on the Noctilux. I have tried the 0.95 a couple of times and I like it very much. But the price is very high and would like to know if I should consider earlier Noctilux lenses and in that case which ones? There might be older ones that gives "better" looks? I see they are quite common on the second hand market. (Summilux can also be an option). Thank you.
  8. Dear L-forum, I have a great opportunity to buy a Noctilux lens but no opportunity to test it or compare it. I have just tested the new 0.95 and I like it. It is the version 2 below that has been offered to me: Version 1 = 50mm F1.2 Noctilux Version 2 = 50mm F1.0 E58 Noctilux (removable pin hood) Version 3 = 50mm F1.0 E60 Noctilux (removable hood) Version 4 = 50mm F1.0 E60 Noctilux (built in hood) Does any one of you have experiences about the lens? Did you have some issues with it? I have read a little about focus shift but is it a real problem if I only shoot wide open 98% of the time? It is a lens from 1977 and goes for the same price as a Summilux 1.4. Thank you!
  9. Wie ich heute mitbekommen habe, ist am vergangenen Freitag das Update Nr. 57 von set.a.light erschienen. Mit dieser Software kann Photographie im allgemeinen und Lichtführung im Besonderen virtuell ausprobiert werden. Eine wirkliche Überraschung ist aber seit Freitag die erweiterte Auswahl der Blendeneinstellung. Jetzt wird auch die Blende 0,95 (!) unterstützt. Ich kenne nur das Noctilux mit dieser Blende. Es ist schon interessant, welche Unterschiede Blenden gerade mit großer und sehr großer Öffnung in dieser Simulation zeigen. Zwischen 2,8, 2,0, 1,4, 1,2 und 0,95 liegen offenbar Welten. Es macht einen Unterschied, ob man später auf das fertige Photo schaut oder gleich die Unterschiede im Portrait sieht. Dass jetzt auch das Noctilux mit seiner einmaligen Blende ausprobiert werden kann, finde ich schon erstaunlich. Eine 15 Tage Testversion http://www.elixxier.com/de/downloads/index.php kann die Zeit zwischen den Jahren ausfüllen. Da man Belichtungssets untereinander austauschen kann, wäre ich an anderen Erfahrungen interessiert. So könnte man wirklich objektiv über Belichtung diskutieren und vor allem andere Vorschläge ausprobieren. Das wäre mal ein Fortschritt. Wer ein Noctilux besitzt, kann ja mal Auskunft geben, ob die Simulation der Wirklichkeit entspricht. Die armen Summichron-Anwender (wie ich) sehen jedenfalls auch den Abstand in den Möglichkeiten der Bildgestaltung zum Summilux. (Bitte nicht vergessen, Brennweite 50mm einzustellen.) Ergänzung: Man kann die Simulation auch auf Schwarz-Weiß einstellen. Das ist für MM-Fans ein interessantes Feature.

  12. Hi there, I have been working on a batch of photos I took in Paris some time ago with M9+Noctilux 0.95. That was the only lens I took along with me, so when it felt necessary, I also used other apertures other than just 0.95. There are photos that really make me wonder. I simply cannot tell whether they are just normal from the lens (concerning the details rendering), or I should send the lens to be readjusted with the M9, or were my hands actually shaking ... Here are two samples, both cropped from 1:1, without any post-processing. They were both taken from the top level of the Eiffel Tower after 19:00 in the evening. The top image was shot at 1/350s and the lower one 1/125s. In both photos I scale-focused, simply moved the infinity mark to the aperture f4. With that I would expect the image should be focused all through. So, this is as sharp/focused as I can to get in this enlargement from Noctilux in that shooting condition?

  18. Aus gegebenem Anlass ein paar Schnappies von einer Anti-Atomkraft-Demo in Greifswald. Dort befindet sich in einer landschaftlich reizvollen Umgebung ein atomares Zwischenlager. M9, Noctilux
  19. Does anyone have the M9 and the new Noctilux 50/0.95? How does it work at f/0.95 and e.g. at f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6, f/8? What happens, if the electronic correction is shut off (vignetting / pink corners)? At the Leica Day last year in Wetzlar I could make some pictures with the M9 + Noctilux. But the electronic correction was not shut off.
  20. Like many Leica fans, I am very frustrated. I did an informal analysis by calling a few dealers in the USA, UK and Germany and came to the conclusion that the problem Leica is clearly having in supplying not only cameras, but more importantly, most of their new lenses may NOT be a minor one. 1) Most dealers have no idea when the next supply is coming and in what quantities. This is highly unusual, even for Leica. I don't know how you survive if you are a Leica only dealer. 2) Commodity prices are all going up and this is going to make the problem potentially worse My concern is that this is a combination of a supply shortage (since Leica is not a high volume manufacturer, if it is competing for components with bigger fish that have more leverage in the supply chain, then there could be trouble for quite a while), and potentially an engineering issue on the line. Engineering excellence is one thing, but if you can't get your product to the market 1 year after launch (in sufficient quantity, not talking about 1 or 2 units), then you will eventually lose to the Nikons and Canons of the world -and that is a shame.

  22. Hi, just got a brand-new Noctilux f/0.95 for my M9... I set the lens detection to "Auto", and yet I find that when I press "Info" it shows the lens listed as "Uncoded." As this lens is obviously coded, what could be wrong here? I've actually never used a coded lens on my M9 before (have a collection of older lenses), so perhaps there's something going on with my camera body? Looking forward to any advice / suggestions you guys might have.
