Focusing is quick enough for portraits (comparable to the Fuji XF56 1.2 which I also used without any problems for weddings) and usually also very precise. In most cases, I use AF-S in combination with face detection. I am not so happy with AF-C and the SL2 with this lens, as it creates a slightly wobbling picture in the viewfinder. The sharpness at f/1.4 is in my opinion outstanding (not only for the price of the lens). See the 200% crop of a portrait below.
I have currently only the Sigma 24-70 mm f/2.8 which is a stunning lens optically and also very quick regarding AF-S (much better with AF-C). Very sharp wide open for a zoom lens. However, I don't like the weight and size of the lens - and I am not a fan of zoom lenses in general. The 85 1.4 feels small and lightweight compared to 24-70 2.8, but it is of course very versatile. For a wedding, I personally need only three lenses which should be ideally at least 2.0 better 1.4: a 35 mm (70%), a 85 mm (25%) and a 24 mm (5%).

isleofgough got a reaction from LocalHero1953 in Indesign alternatives?
LaTeX can create a beautiful book, but you definitely need to know what you are doing. (I have a book on Amazon done in LaTeX, with the Kindle version created in Flare) It is very unintuitive coming from any of the other DTP programs, but rock stable once you have set up all the parameters. It is really for longer books or math intensive projects where you want to use a set of rules to define placement of text and images (like Framemaker and MadCap Flare) or have complicated cross references and bibliographies. LaTeX is not good for color management, unlike InDesign or Quark. InDesign, like Quark or Pagemaker, is a paste up DTP -  where you can put images anywhere you want, but it doesn't really use rule based positioning.
I've published books with most of the major DTP programs over the years and would recommend InDesign in general for graphic intensive books and Affinity Publisher as a cheaper alternative (assuming you don't need Photoshop, Illustrator, etc and have not bought the Affinity alternatives).
One thing to consider is multisourcing. You might want to create a Kindle or ePub version as well as a print version. LaTex is bad for that. InDesign is fair and Flare is better.

    Hi Chris,

    you are welcome.
Honestly, the 75 is a gem and for me a perfect companion to the 35. Not much you can do wrong here. The more I use these two lenses the more I realize how really outstanding great they are.
Attached  one of a few self portraits I've made today for our companies marketing department (for professional interviews or technical contributions in industry magazines). Minimum crop on the sides toward a more 4:3 format.
Today during a walk I've made a great on fly portrait  (upper body with a path to the horizon in the blur) of a very good friend - the 75 is perfect for such things. I just don't want to share a picture from him here without his permission.

Back to the 75. I was really thinking back and forth, but am extremely happy that I went for it.

    Cheers
    Daniel

Thank you for this. It's very helpful. I'd always wanted the 90mm but got a great deal for the 75mm. The compressed look is great for headshots. My goto combo has always been the 28mm and 85mm. I always felt they were a bit too far which is why I also settled for the 75mm. It's a great lens and I agree that it renders more naturally.
The 50mm SL Cron is sharp, renders beautifully, and has great bokeh. Very pleased with it. For portraits, I once tried the 50mm SL Lux. It's big, heavy and flawed but I love how it renders -- possibly better than the Cron at least to my eye.
    Some examples I shot:

    Hi,
as fought my thoughts regarding where to move with my SL-Lenses coming from a very complete M-Setup and I've decided to go for 35 and 75 with the SL-Lenses I today took the opportunity to just snap fotos of our dog during an evening couch session after a good days work.
After selling some of my m-lenses (35 and 50 Summilux) I know own for my SL2-s the apo35-sl and the apo75-sl. Beside this I still have some wider m-choices and the very nice Elmarit 2.8 90.
Here I have used the 35, 75 and the 90. And es this is nice comparison of focal-length I thought to share the pictures.

    +1 BTW...I love cats.
Among the many admirable qualities of cats, they are independent, generally discriminating as to when & how they show affection and as RBB image demonstrates "endearing" is often also quite high on the list.
In previous note was speculating that the way RBB photo was rendered didn't require that one be a cat person to fully appreciate it.
Also quite impressed with various images that have been posted with the Sigma 85mm 1.4. Seems like a worthy alternative to the SL 90 F2 which I happen to own.
