I thought it may have been IMARO - but is there a code for an added light meter?
    IMARO = IGEMO + ELMAR-M (Elmar (III) f= 5 cm 1:3.5)

I can't personally vouch for it, but I read recently that DAG, at the request of a customer, had fitted  a diopter holder with a Nikon diopter instead of Leica glass, and that the cost was less than a new Leica one.

I can assume that as the user goes to his/her optician, and as the ring 042-253.008 has positive stop screwing in,
his/her not too bad optician can ask him/her for use mostly vertical or horizontal pictures to set at correct angle the astigm. lens as requested.

    Sorry, not a solution anymore...
Seen this, now opticians can not cut 10mm lens, too small !

romualdo reacted to a.noctilux in Leica M (not 10) Diopter dismantling?
In the good (?) old day, Leica used to 'offer' as part number 042-253.008 as empty mount for astigmatism correction to be glass-inserted by optician.
I never had this empty mount, but this service was always 'offered' in my 1997 Catalog, for M6.

In your place, Romualdo I'd just send a message to Leica Customer Service.
Maybe you can have one for free 😉.

romualdo reacted to Helge in Leica M (not 10) Diopter dismantling?
I looked at it and I couldn't find an easy way to dismantle it. To be honest, considering the risk of destroying the lens by dismantling it and even if it works, still the risk of paying a fortune for an optician I would just spend the 175$ and buy a replacement at Leica.

We read on the forum about dust spots, fungus, little marks etc etc in or on the glass of our lenses, getting it fixed and the degrading effects to our pictures.
This 35mm f2 Leica screw Canon lens has come to me in the last couple of weeks. I tried it out on my Leica 3g, Ilford Pan F in  Perceptol. Mostly taken at f4 or f5.6.
These are copies of darkroom prints.
The back element of the lens is broken in half !
But you would not know just looking at the prints.
(l had to put three pictures on a second posting).

Another shout out for the Elmarit 28 ASPH (V1) - love it's compactness/ergonomics & quality build & final product (images)
But, my new addition, a 28 f3.5 Nikkor LTM (basically the same size as the original 28 Summaron but two stops ahead) is getting more attention at present
I gave up looking for an original Summaron 28

I was under the impression (according to Laney) that the first optical version was only available in the collapsible form, screw & M mount (SOOIC & SOOIC-M). There was no rigid version of this first design (or was there)?

Just take a cloth to dry it with from time to time. The showstopper with wet weather is condensation inside the viewfinder so dry it before putting it away and keep air circulating around the body and don't put a wet camera under your coat.

My black paint Leica III (s/n 116111) also shows all the signs of being black from birth and the Hahne list confirms this. But several other lists in books and on the internet state that it should be chrome. There is a thread about this as below; I'm inclined to believe the Hahne list on mine and yours.

My father used to recount a story about his London sales agents, who like many on the sales side of the textile industry, were Jewish (very!). Around 1946-47 the food supply situation in the UK was becoming even worse than it had been during the war and finding in particular kosher food, was becoming close to impossible. Myra, the agents wife, had been unable one day to find any kosher food for their supper but then had a brainwave. They lived in an apartment above their showrooms in St Johns Wood and she had seen in a corner there, a few cartons of tins of preserved pilchards. Although not perfect, she thought she could take a couple of the tins from a carton and serve them on toast. She duly did this but the pilchards were absolutely disgusting and Milo, her husband asked where on earth she had got them. She explained where they had come from, at which point Milo exploded with the following immortal phrase: "For god's sake Myra, those are buying and selling Pilchards, not eating Pilchards."
Similarly some Leica cameras and lenses at auction sales are "buying and selling Leicas, not using or displaying Leicas"

That's a hard case , indeed... Wetzlar, traditionally, is considered the "final source" about info on specific items, but Hahne list is also regared as e seriously documented source.. and they are in full contradiction about this topic; imho, the answer from Leica, in this case, looks to me a bit too quick... and from a department ("customer care") which typically is in charge of other tasks...

well, I am still convinced that Hahgne list is correct and this camera was black paint. Few year ago they digitized delivery records and some of repair books, this is why the replies come so quick. Usually when inquiring specific serial number you will get the date when camera left the factory, and if available, as well dates of repairs/conversions done by Leitz. But not what has been repaired/converted.
As mentioned before - the parts which are on the camera were never chromed, so if the the camera was really chromed when produced then top/bottom cover and top plate , eye viewer lever must have been replaced (not  only black painted) and all chromed knobs eitrher replaced ar renickeled. Not impossible but very unprobably.

    Dear Stephen Platt,

    Thank you for your request.
The camera with the serial number 120546 should be a Leica III in Chrome.
