Yes for real! I found out trough asking the Customer Service directly. It actually makes sense that they still do this modification, the procedure is the as changing the rangefinder on a MA / MP / M7 / M6 etc. so its not really a "special task" but something they do regularly  on other cameras. The just take the old viewfinder out put the new one in.
Why did I even got the idea to do this ? I got my hand on a couple M1s as a gift from a family member. I knew I wouldn't have used them as they are stock and I knew that Leica did this service back when the cameras where new. So I figured I should just ask them.
Since I prefer the M2 Body over the MA / MP Body but always would pick the newer rangefinders / viewfinders over the older ones, these are my favorite Ms and they see way more use then my MAs. ( I also love my Abrahamsson M2 Rapidwinders )
Wouldn't I have gotten the M1s as a gift, I would never even thought about this, but now I am really happy that I have these cameras. They are what I always thought would be my "perfect" M, M2s with a complete MP rangefinder.

That's the sort of image I was getting with a collapsible Elmar 90 f4 - found out that elements had been reversed on previous CLAs

    my go to flashes
    1. the tiny CF with two auto settings, to 3.5m & 7.1m (plus manual)
    2. the Chico flash bulb unit - the capacitor is still functioning well (have had it tested twice by a local electronics person) - been experimenting with various bulbs
this version designed specifically for the IIIf
    very happy with both systems

The answer is easy, and very evident found in the behaviour on the forum, a digital camera is bought and it's demonstrated as being awesome. Then the next upgrade digital camera is bought and demonstrated for its awesome power, and so on. To some it can negate the previous photos (because they are now crap), but the cycle starts again of repeating everything over and over again, but just with a new digital camera. With film you have a datum point where nobody can say 'I love my M11 more than I loved my M10' and continue the hype, your roll of film is as good in a Nikon or a Leica, there is no bullshit.

John Walshe of Hobart sold Wild (later Leica) Survey equipment to the Antarctic Division
    After seeing it in Europe.
He became the Wild/ Leica agent in Tasmania, Walshe Optics and still operates.
Robert Walshe is the owner  and might have more information about cameras.
    Cheers

Not sure if relevant, but there was until recently a IIIf in the Tasmanian Museum, I think related to early photography in the state.

Also I remember visiting Ash Bester many times before it closed to have photos developed and to buy film. It was absolutely packed with treasures,  I’m not sure what happened to all the gear…

I have some interesting information regarding early Leicas in Australia
A few years ago I purchased the three volumes (original) of the Leica IIIa manual (IIRC it was on Gumtree from someone in Sydney) - see pic below of Part 3
They are dated June 1937 & the manuals are written in English
I noticed on the rear cover of Part 3, a stamp showing the seller ie "Ash, Bester & Co", Chemists and Photo. Dealers, 102 Elizabeth St. Hobart, Tasmania
I was then able to find more information about this pharmacy (doesn't exist anymore) & there's a wonderful background story (photographic), especially the postcards they produced for commercial use - I have a couple of them & can post them if you like
    http://beecheyspostcardhistory.org.au/homes/publisher/6
So, it looks like they were selling Leica cameras in Tasmania in the 1930s or even earlier

Does anyone here know when Leica camera equipment became available in Australia? Specifically, were new Leica screw mount cameras ever sold down under? From my observation, second hand Leica screw mount camera equipment is quite rare in Australia (which makes it a bit of a challenge to find something interesting). Also, I have never seen a Leica screw mount camera with an engraving or logo of an Australian distributor or an Australian photographic dealer. Such engravings are often found on Leica LTM cameras exported to other countries and continents such as South America.
I copy the local experts @kangaroo2012 , @MarkP, and @romualdo (I certainly forgot to copy others, sorry). Thanks for any information.

That's an interesting combination - never thought of that (I have a V1 Elmarit 28 ASPH & 12504 hood, let me try it) though I thought there would have been a degree of vignetting using a 35mm hood on a 28mm lens - it actually looks great IMHO (see pic)
