6bit reacted to T25UFO in On the fence about buying the 50 SL Summilux…..
I had the SL 50mm Summilux as my only SL auto focus lens.  I eventually sold it because of size and weight, and bought the SL 75mm Summicron, which I still have.  The Summicron is a great lens, but when I look back at the photos I took with the Summilux, I do have some regrets.
Yes, they are quite different but there is something special with the Summilux and if you can accept the size and weight, then it’s the lens of choice.

First test shot. Wide open with a ND filter so I can shoot in daylight. Will be shooting some photos this week.

It just something I do, partly to have another record in case of loss or theft, the more evidence of ownership I can give the insurance company the happier they will be.

Thank you for that answer. My SL 1.4/50mm came today. I put a Leica UV filter over the end. So far, no problems. Will report back. I was a little surprised at the AF speed, but it is not that bad. Focusing at 1.4 is not easy task. Colors are ok, images are superb. Lens hood will not get used (too big and bulky for me). I am going to shoot with it a lot over the weekend. My impressions after a few hours is if you are thinking about it and can afford it, do it.

That is a wonderful image. And not because of the lens rendering!

6bit reacted to adan in Review: The New Leica APO-Summicron-M 35mm F2 ASPH.
As mentioned pages back in this thread somewhere - the 35 APO doesn't use a full-circle focus cam to connect to the camera, just a push-rod driven by a cam deep inside the lens.
(A technique also used on some M teles 75/90/135 in the past.)
So yes, it may miss connecting to some cameras' roller-levers, if the camera lever is higher or lower than normal, or the lens is over/under-mounted (i.e. with the lens push-rod not precisely top-dead-center).
And, of course, since the APO-35 focuses all the way down to 0.3m, it always disconnects from the RF between 0.7 and 0.3m (close-focus range), with any M body.

Since Your lens just went to Leica for service and came back this way and they didn't address this, i'd assume it's harmless to the function of the lens.
I had a Telephoto R lens with something similar, i sent it to DAG for a needed CLA and he didn't address the issue, I recall he said it was finish that had worn off of mine.

Looks like “Schneideritis”...there should be threads I imagine on here re the 40mm Rokkor which is a well-known sufferer - or Google is your friend.
As I am about to purchase from M&K - did they mention anything about this issue in their (often very brief) description of the condition of your lens???

there are some black coating inside the barrel.  some discolored/chip off due to aging/weathering or some due to CLA mistake.  Few of my vintage lenses have it too, I don't see anything wrong on images, probably would if I shot something really bright I believe?
DAG should be able to paint it for you I guess...

If you decide you want a faster lens, and that is almost always the decision for myself, I would consider the Voigtlander 1.4/35mm ii. My favorite 35mm.
The Voigtlander 1.5/50mm Nokton ii is in my top five for 50s.
They are compact, inexpensive, and impressive lenses. As someone stated above, why not be both a 35 and a 50 shooter?

I use a LR plugin called LensTagger. I use it every time I forget to manually change one of my uncoded lenses in the camera menu, or if I want to correct the aperture or something else.

    on a mac:
put a copy of this file in the folder where you exported the jpgs from DXO, and run it through mac terminal after changing its permissions to RWX-RWX-RWX in getinfo, then in the terminal, go to that folder, and type ./Exif_Voigh_50   and press enter
FYI the contents are as follows:
    exiftool -overwrite_original -SerialNumber=0  -LensSerialNumber=0 -alldates= -gpsdatestamp= -gpstimestamp=  -DateTimeOriginal= -CreateDate= -DateCreated=  -Lens="Voigtlander 50mm APO-LANTHAR 50mm"   -ApertureValue=  -FNumber=  -FocalLength="50"  -FocalLengthIn35mmFormat="50"  -LensMake="Voigtlander"  -LensInfo="50, 50, 2, 16"  -LensModel="Voigtlander 50mm APO-LANTHAR 50mm" *.jpg

download SetEXIFData, and do it the easy way

p.s because i use a lot of old m39 and m42 lenses, ive made this kind of exif batch file for each and every lens

I have both. The choice you make really depends on whether you need the extra light gathering ability of the f/1.4. You might buy both, try them out with the subjects you most often shoot and if you desire sell whichever least meets your expectations. I kept both, each for different purposes.

I just received my 1.25/75mm Nocti today. It became too late to go out and give it a proper run through, but I want to show a few quick shots from around the homestead because I am excited to have it. From the few shots I have taken, this is an impressive lens. It gives the SL lineup a run for its money imho. Will put it on the SL2 and give it a proper go soon.
All shots at f/1.25 and ISO varies, grass 800 and snakes 1000. It's dark out but you wouldn't know it from the photos. 🙂 Shot on an SL Typ 601 a 1/160s.

I want to echo @RBB's comments. It is a mind-blowing combination. It is large and heavy as stated above, but the photos are fantastic and couldn't be easier to get with AF. The SL2 + 50 Lux was one reason I dove back into the SL system after being mostly eh on the SL Top 601.
