I own SL2 and X1D II. They are completely different type of cameras, both great and both worth having.

It is just an opinion, based on the author's priority. I used James Tocchio's article (linked above) as well as Erwin Putts How to choose a film-loading M when deciding to buy M2 instead of M3. But my priorities may not be other people's priorities. If you are looking for facts, Ken Rockwell's site is not a good place, AFAIK.

Do you have a source that documents bad high ISO performance of the 60MP sensor?
    Here is a comparison of M10 vs. a7rIV at ISO 12800/12500: M10 vs. a7rIV

The comment is based on the misconception that lower resolution sensors are better in low light than higher resolution sensors.

In this picture it looks like the ISO wheel is capable of ISO 64! Good for Noctiluxes.

Having all visual 'junk' removed helps framing. Note that in EVF the top and bottom information bars do not cover the frame, I wish Leica left the bottom bar always on when viewing through EVF. However, with highlight clipping on, the highlights will clip annoyingly unless one removes everything by pressing the D-pad button. In that display mode, the highlight clipping appears only with a shutter button half-press. One more reason why I like to remove focusing from the shutter button.

In my experience the vast majority of "rangefinder inaccuracy" is user mistake (including myself). The most common undetected error is  looking through the viewfinder skewed and not in the optical axis. In fact, although the M10 rangefinder is the most precise and stable one ever built by Leica, the better eye relief makes this specific error easier to make.

Getting back to the original topic of noise reduction, my own experience with Topaz DeNoise AI is that it can yield very clean images but sometimes at the cost of nasty artifacts in out of focus areas. A superior NR approach, IMO, is DxO's Deep Prime which can be found as part of DxO Photolab 4 & 5 or all by itself in PureRAW. It works in the raw stage and supposedly removes noise during the demosaicing process. In my workflow, I drag high noise DNG files into PhotoLab 5 and run Deep Prime as the only adjustment (along with lens corrections). I then output the file as a DNG to my raw convertor (Capture One) and proceed as normal. The entire round-trip takes about 60 to 90 seconds on my computer, and the results can be almost miraculous.

    FYI:
    Sigma's 30/1.4 ($264), 16/1.4 ($250), and 56/1.4 ($300) are currently 22 to 44 percent off (sale prices from Adorama).

SL 601 and SL2 are a bit of an exception, as they "underperform" in terms of noise when compared to other FF cameras. Note that I am quite happy with the results from SL2, the term "underperform" is more theoretical in this situation.
You should be able to see a difference in noise at higher ISOs between your S5 and CL:
CL vs. SL vs. S5 (PhotonsToPhotos)
Here is a difference between a Nikon APS-C vs. FF:
DPR Studio Scene: Z fc vs. Z 7 II
I would expect the difference to be most visible in deep shadows.
Noise removal by Topaz and DxO is great, but it cannot  completely compensate for the loss of detail due to noise.
Now, are we splitting hairs? There is a difference, but for many the difference is too small to matter.

You probably know this. SDC is always performed in post-processing software. The camera only writes instructions (EXIF) in the raw files. In case of Sigma 18-50, the camera embeds WarpRectilinear data.

SrMi reacted to ramarren in Annoying experience installing CL firmware 4.1
I usually phrase my input such that a response is expected. For instance, in reporting that the website now makes finding the firmware V4.1 very difficult, I asked for either a link or a procedure to allow me to access the appropriate link. The confirmation response is usually followed by a response within a day or three.

Which ones compare favorably in size and weight to the TL18, TL23, or TL18-56? Sigma's DG DN Contemporary lenses are very nice and compact but heavier than Sigma's corresponding APS-C lenses.
Why do you consider using APS-C lenses on APS-C cameras a punishment?

Numerous reasons.  The 24/3.5 provides a 36mm f/5.25 equivalent - much slower and larger than the 23/2.  The 45/2.8 is compact but odd focal length on APS and low light AF suffers relative to the 35/1.4 and the 30/1.4.  There is no Sigma that offers a 28mm FOV on the CL.  Certainly nothing that compact.  The Sigma APS lenses are more useful on the CL than the FF Sigma's are.

Good news… DXO is adding M10R to the list of supported cameras in PureRaw. It’s the best noise reduction I’ve ever seen so I’m excited. It won’t make it into the next release unfortunately. It will be the version after that. So i imagine Q1 2022 but they didn’t give an exact date.  Anyone who cares about SL2 or SL2S support should definitely join the DXO forums and push for it.

A small FF camera cannot replace CL as the FF lenses are typically bigger and heavier than APS-C lenses.
