stevegaskin got a reaction from robworld in Half Case for CL and others
Just arrived, my half case and matching strap for my recently acquired M-P 240. Bought this from 'bestview01' on eBay who supplied a similar one for my CL last year. These guys offer great product at great prices and each time have included a complimentary matching wrist strap. The great thing about this case is that you can leave the base plate off enabling quick access to the SD card and battery. Check them out here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Leather-Half-Camera-Case-Bag-Cover-for-Leica-M-M240-M246-M-P-MM-MP-M262/253976685489?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=553300427209&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

stevegaskin got a reaction from Aperture 2 in What's in your Leica M10 camera bag?
I like may of you have had several bags over the years including some very large ones when lugging around my DSLR gear. Having now committed to the M system I wanted something as compact as possible but of decent quality.  I had a couple of Doke bags (I still have one), which are pretty good  but when I had just the one body, I looked at the Billingham range and chose the Digital bag as this accommodate the M10 body with 50mm, plus my 28mm and 90mm lenses, plus the usual accessories.  I then acquired an M-P240 bodey and added the Hadley Bag which accommodates all, just.   Great quality bags, and in my view both stylish, practical and protective.

stevegaskin got a reaction from nuc001 in M10 ‘non Leica’ battery
Hi jaap, whilst I appreciate that Leica is a premium brand and that they will/can command a high price for their accessories, their batteries are not as you say ‘cheap’. They are not hand built in Wetzlar, they will be produced for them by a specialist battery manufacturer who probably also makes batteries for other ‘prime’ brands as well as generic brands. Nikon, Canon, Sony branded batteries typically retail for 50% less than the Leica battery. I own a CL which uses a design shared by Panasonic models and I was able to buy non-branded equivalents for much less than the Leica/Panasonic battery and they perform exactly the same.  Using a battery which is shared by other equipment enables higher volumes to be produced and brings economies of scale.  I guess as the battery design is M10 specific and that Leica decides not to licence other manufacturers to produce an equivalent in order to protect their margins, then that’s the most likely reason they are the price they are.   So in summary, price representative of Leica, but in the context of the market, not cheap.

Hi, "I bit the bullet" and bought the Pro 16-35 and are pleased with it.   I took the attached images a couple of weeks ago which was my first trip out with the lens.  I particularly wanted to try shots into the sun to see how it coped and I think it's pretty good.  The lens is well made and much more lightweight than the 24-90 and I like the focal range.  There's no switches for IS I assume the SL2 body deals with this.  The Leica 24-90 is a great lens for most situations, but for super-wide shots at a third of the price of the Leica equivalent, I'm happy with the Panasonic.

My understanding is that ‘official’ L-mount alliance lenses from Panasonic/Leica/Sigma do communicate the distortion parameters to the body. For DNG shooting, the parameters are saved in the file metadata so that your post processing software such as Lightroom can perform the correction. For on-body corrections, this is applied to the EVF and video capture in realtime as well as camera generated jpeg images.

stevegaskin got a reaction from plaidshirts in Lens detection
I’ve just acquired a pre-owned M-P240 and I get the message ‘lens not detected’ when I fit my 28mm Elmarit-M 6 bit; the lens is detected when fitted to my M10.    Once fitted focussing is fine and the menu states ‘unnamed lens’.  I have a 6-bit 50mm Summarit which works correctly on both bodies.   I bought from a dealer so I’m going to contact them but wondered if anyone else has experienced similar problems and if non-recognition other than not transferring EXIF information causes any correction issues?

I only have one of them, so I can't compare.  I used Puts' books as holy writ, and chose an APO Elmarit-R  180 model # 11273.  It's incredible, light, easy to focus (wide open) with controls that you don't have to look at.  I never figured out exactly which APO was the most APO, but these lenses were made relatively late, if they are ROMed versions.

Be VERY careful about using old leather straps. I've seen more than one camera destroyed when a 60+ year old aged original strap breaks.

I just use these basic nylon wrist straps that come on many modern P&S type cameras. I mostly use them as a safety strap to keep from dropping the camera, but to me, they fit with the compact nature of a Barnack Leica and can't damage the finish on the lugs or the body. The other bonus is the local camera store basically gives them away or  you can get 10 of them on an auction site for $1.50. Mine are silver but they are also made in black. Here is one on my Leica IIIa w/ summar.

Just looked at your Historic webpage, fascinating. Is this your own collection, amazing if so.    I've only recently acquired the 111c, would you know what they would have cost new and what that equivalent would be in GBP?   Thanks for sharing your information

Of course. Thanks William, just find it interesting to try and make a comparison; however much the calculation might be out.  If it's reasonably accurate it would be good price for todays M's

Nice camera, and a lovely leather strap, although for a "vintage" camera it may look somewhat modern. I coupled my 1936 Leica III with a well-used 1950s braided nylon strap, using German clip-on fasteners that (I believe) were supplied with 1960s aftermarket straps. That combination looks vintage and appropriate. For a different look, I bought the Harris Tweed strap at an outdoor market in Edinburgh - that may get some attention when I wander the streets looking for picture opportunities 😀.

Amazing what you find when you ferret around in your cupboards.  I also found some quick-release fittings which make it easy when I put the camera in its display cabinet.

My best method is triangular rings with leather straps. And looks vintage ...
Round rings or plastic/Nylon etc. straps are also good. It is the best way to protect the case at the top. For another camera, I only remove the straps, not the rings!

Thread to read before choosing Summicron 35mm of any type
Summicron IV 35mm is a good lens and better yet if we can find the "Germany" made (155g),
the "Canada" type, 20g lighter can have some fragile synthetic components.
The color of the ring (as I have the two types, C. and G.) can be good indication of choice.
