Advertisement Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Hi bill, Take a look here The RAF at Brooklands with the 50mm Elmar M. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
topoxforddoc Posted June 17, 2012 Share #2 Posted June 17, 2012 Bill, The second shot is great. Just add the sound effects with air raid sirens, RR merlin engines and’scramble’ going out on tannoys and you’d be transported back 72 years.
richam Posted June 17, 2012 Share #3 Posted June 17, 2012 Bill, Thanks for posting these shots. They touched me with a bit of nostalgia. My brother was a B-17 crewman in WWII (stationed at Norwich, as I recall). I had a career in the USAF, including 2 NATO tours serving alongside RAF colleagues (among other nationalities, of course). I've put Brooklands on my list of places to visit in the UK. And I agree about the lens. I used my M7 + 50 Elmar many times. Quick, nice handling, intuitive to use. My favorite setup for street shooting.

bill Posted June 17, 2012 Author Share #6 Posted June 17, 2012 Thank you all. Brooklands is one of my favourite places; it was the site of the Vickers Armstrong factory during the war. My Grandfather was Chief Maintenance Electrician there. I used to relish his stories when I was a child. One more - they do these things extremely well. Every so often they did actually ring a bell and do a dummy "Scramble!!" - very evocative... Welcome, dear visitor! StS Posted June 17, 2012 Share #10 Posted June 17, 2012 I would have sworn this was Portra... The era feels to be very well displayed and captured. Stefan
tollie Posted June 17, 2012 Share #11 Posted June 17, 2012 Amazing shots... evocative. It was so important for the future that the UK held on in 1940. It was clear cut... even (especially) at the time.

digbyhp Posted June 18, 2012 Share #14 Posted June 18, 2012 Terrific pics, and great support for the Elmar-M thread indeed. Superia 400 was one of my favourites for years, but I never would have picked these as that film. I must go and give the Superia a run in conjunction with my Elmar.

cbretteville Posted January 8, 2013 Share #19 Posted January 8, 2013 Great shots Bill. The colour works with the subject matter. I do agree that the 50 Elmar-M is a fantastic lens. I had DAG add a focusing tab to mine which makes it even better, for me that is (I know some don't like them). Carl
